As a couple of folks have pointed out, the Ocea Jigger Anthony was referring to in the video was the 2000. There is no 2500. Thank you for catching that and my mistake for not catching it during editing. My sincere apologies.
Additionally, thank you everyone for all the positive vibes and stoke! Tight lines!!
I really appreciate what Ceasar said regarding the hybrid style of slow pitch jigging used on the West Coast. The original Japanese method works very well with a light jig over good marks and light current, but often the sport boats on the West Coast have current/wind and have fish under the boat because of chum thrown. So the technique doesn't have to be as subtle since the fish are usually fired up. Fishing shallow reefs in Hawaii with no chum, the original method of lightest line, lightest/smallest jig frequent pauses is our best method to get fish to bite. I'm really enjoying this video series guys!
I tried one out on my last 8 day and it's just not my thing. Also, the whole light line thing is controversial on sport boats for tuna...especially if one guy is stuck on a fish for 2 hours after the school leaves on 60lb. I think they are great for private boats. Jmo Great video as always.
I agree 🐟
I appreciate you sharing your experience and your honest feedback! I think that's a point worth thinking about, at least when it comes to big tuna.
Best shop in SoCal
Anthony was patient and took care of me when I was brand new to everything. I'll never forget that.
Awesome video Benji, I was on a 2 day last week and watched a guy absolutely smash the BFT on these noodle rods! They definitely do the job. Btw please let Anthony know I caught 8 blue fin 70-108lbs after they were gill and gutted on that Phenix rail rod and Malaira 20 he sold me! That set up is a BEAST! 😂
Thank you so much for the update David, dude amazing job man. I'll definitely let him know and I'm sure you'll share with him too the next time you're in the shop!
Benjie is back once again 😎
haha thank you! Grinding em out as always!
Great video guys! I used to go to Sav-on Tackle in 1974.
Been to the store many times and they are very nice and friendly and professional and helpful. Better than Fisherman's Access.
Agreed!
This actually answered some questions I had! 🤙🏼 great video as always!
This video answered a lot of questions I had too lol. Thanks Josh!!
I been sav on tackle and Anthony is very informative and patient..
That has been my experience as well. Far before we started filming videos and working together on these projects. Thank you for sharing the positivity!
Wow that's nothing short of amazing with those little rods & reels ,,,Thomas Dolby once said
" Science" 🤔
Agreed. I'd love to have the chance of tugging on a yellowtail or tuna with one of these outfits!
Awesome helpful video on slow pitching Benjie.! Thanks again for all you do. Can’t wait for part 2.. 🤙🏽
Always appreciate the love and support Mike, thank you! Hope you've had a great weekend!!
I bought a setup earlier this year. Looking forward to trying it out.
nice Eugene! Yea, I've got a slow pitch reel from Gomexus and hoping to get my hands on the Titan. Very much looking forward to giving it a shot as well!
Thanks guys!
Not sure how fast we jigged on Long Island Sound in the 70’-80s when I was a kid…..but everyone on our boat caught 3 mackerel at a time…..even beginners 😎
Just go out and fish!
Absolutely, great word. Thank you for sharing those memories, it's such a big part of our beautiful sport!
Awesome video! Loved learning about this technique! Was watching videos of guys fishing in the gulf of Mexico doing jigging and had so many questions. This answers a lot of them!
Awesome, glad it might be helpful along your fishing journey. Brand new technique for me as well and really looking forward to giving it a whirl before the season ends.
Metal lures have been used for 60 years in Norway and the UK, they were called perks. Even 45 years ago grim reaper sold them in New Zealand but we didn't have braid, so they didn't have great success
Hi benjie!!! HI Anthony 👋 👋 love u guys
Q
Go to Savon guys you just don't know MAN THEY GOT IT ALL !!! EVERYTHING MAKE THE TRIP 💯
hwaiting!
Thank you Francis, hope ur well brotha!! Can't wait for trout season already haha!
Slow Pitch is great. I have some Titan rods. However. Some charters aren't too fond of slow pitch anglers primary because it takes them longer to bring up fish. I have talked to deckhands and they are cool with it, but they will tell you on the DL that it takes too long to bring up fish.
Looking to getting into the hybrid slow pitch jigging from a kayak. I've got a Penn Fathom II 10XN. Looking for recommendations for a rod. + thoughts on the Okuma Tesoro slow pitch rod (TSR-S-681ML-SP). Fishing for mackinaw and big Lahontan Cutthroat trout in Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake, NV, fishing from 50-200'
Thanks
Benjie do you do vids for freshwater because if you do I need that same knowledge for that also
Acid wrap stops rod twist
Slow pitch imitates wounded fish.
Fast pitch imitates fleeing fish.
IMHO…😊
Makes perfect sense to me, that's a terrific way of saying it. IMHO :)
Thanks John!
How about 400 size bait casters for slow pitch?
Thank you for making these videos. They are really helpful to those of us who want to get into slow pitch jigging! I still have a ton of questions though :) Here are a few of them: 1. Is there a rule of thump regarding weight of the jigs and fishing depth (I will be fishing in 50 -150 m)? 2. I live in northern Europe so I will be targeting cod, coalfish and pollock that don't run a lot, are not all that strong and are mostly less than 10 kg / 22 lbs - what is the thinnest line I can get away with? 3. I have noticed that most people use left handed reels for slow jigging - do you recommend this as well and why?
1. jig weight very much depends on current, but benchmark range would be160-220 gram jigs for 50 meters of water and 250-400 gram jigs for 100+ meters. Stronger current you'll want heavier jigs with thin profile. The wider, slow fall butterfly jigs tend to get swept away in heavier current and you'll struggle to hit your target depth if it takes too long for the jig to reach your desired depth.
2. Rule of thumb for line is the deeper you fish you'll want less resistance, so thinner braid. 15-20lb braid for 150 meters of water when fishing for cod/pollock, but 30lb braid should be fine when fishing 50-100 meters of water for these fish.
3. No idea, I wouldn't feel comfortable fishing a left handed reel!
@@Matt-ke6yq Thank you for the reply. I ended up getting jigs of different shapes from 80g to 400g, a 20lb quality braid (Varivas 8) and a Okuma Alijos 5N-II reel (right hand) :)
Go with goofish rods for the price they handle all fish
Can a 31in line retrieve and soft rod cause fish to get unhooked often? I lost 5 strong fishes last weekend and don't know what I'm doing wrong.Using a Penn Slammer 5600L ,Noeby slow jigging rod
thanks a lot for this video. Concerning the acid assembly, should the rings turn to the right or to the left for a right-handed person holding the crank in the left hand?
Hey there, thanks for the comments on both of these videos and thank you for your patience! I just got off the phone with Ceasar and in his experience and opinion, it does not matter which direction the rings go. He did explain to me that this is a somewhat hotly debated issue and there are folks who will argue that it does matter.
But in his opinion and experience, having custom built rods in both ways, it is irrelevant which direction they go. This is just his experience and opinion, nothing more.
Hope that helps!
@@BenjieKimFishing Thanks a lot for your answer and comments from Caesar
Never seen a ocea jigger 2500
Because it doesn't exist. My mistake for not catching it during editing. Anthony was referring to the 2000. Thank you for catching that 🤙
Hi guys good video, does line retrieval matter? Should I be going for a high gear or power gear ratio reel??? Thanks
I purchased a Shimano talavera type slow J 6 6 power pro line 40 s max jig max 250 power medium action moderate fast. Using for fluke black fish sea bass in rough bottom. Did I get the right rod
What slow pitch rods can I use for black fish and fluke in rough bottom
Jigging - my first time doing deep sea high speed vertical jigging (spinning reel) was more than 40yrs ago off Bar Harbor Maine with a small head boat. And my grandfather was doing it in the 50s and 60s he didn't invent it. Not sure what this guy is talking about.
Large chromed jigs diamond or otherwise and big bucktail jigs and ones with an eel patter tube. Been doing this since 40s at least.
Not with modern reels obviously.
Thank you for sharing your history and experience!
Any recommendation for 10g 15g jigpara jigs in 10ft of water or less
That's a great question, I'm gonna ask one of my guys and find out. With the Titan rods, the lightest one they have is TJX-C 63UL which has a lure rating of 20 to 60 grams. I did a quick search on the Ocean Legacy and Star rods and didn't find an option for something that light. I'm sure there's an option somewhere because that sounds really fun!
hello I have a question I love pier fishing I have 2 spinning combos and 4 bait caster combos but I would love to get a I get a jigging Combo for the first time for pier fishing what jigging Combo would you recommend me getting than I would like a jigging Combo for pier fishing thank you very much
What Daiwa Saltiga Bay Jigging is he talking about with 55lb drag?
50lb*
Hey there, thanks so much for the comment/question. I looked up the specs when I saw your question and it looks like Anthony may have mixed up the drag (55 lb) specs on the regular Saltiga with the Bay Jigging. My apologies on that, Anthony is a wealth of knowledge and he shares off the top of his head and sometimes the info gets mixed up. It's my job to catch that and I didn't on this one.
Thank you again for catching this and for the comment!
What is this ultra light setup of which you speak?
nice video guys. just wondering what can be the max size fish that shimano ocea jigger 1500 can handle. i like it for its small and narrow profile making it easy to use all day but can you take it to get the deep out at sea?
Hey there, this is the braid capacity for the 1500 - 40/300, 50/250, 65/180
Based on that you can determine what you feel comfortable fishing for. I'd say it would be fine for up to small tuna and yellowtail.
Awesome thank you for the reply and your advise. I live in Bali indonesia and the max we would fish on our costs is around 600 - 700ft. im guessing that the 1500 would be ok for that? sorry for the basic questions, ive recently been poisoned to jigging 😅 @@BenjieKimFishing
You guys are talking about 30 pounds of drag but you have to use heavy line for that. How can you fish heavy pine with such small reels?
I have a penn fathom 8. It has 33lbs of drag. I use j braid 8 strand 30lb which breaks about 40lb the reel takes over 250 metres of braid
@@joedennehy386you’re not supposed exceed 30% of the line weight on your set drag.
im confused about getting the OJ 1500 or the OJ 2000. i fish the tropics in Bali and never go under 150 meters of water but the jigs get quite heavy (500-700g). can the smaller 1500 handle this type of jigs? any advice is welcome thank you!!
The OJ 1500/2000 are the same reel, only difference is line capacity. I'd go with the 2000 or 4000 sized reel (bigger fish) if you're frequently fishing 150 meters of water. I really wouldn't recommend the 1500, give yourself extra line.
I'm gunna stik with my knife jiggs.....aww come on you gunna fish blufin w that?....this gunna be good 🍿 🍿 🍿 👀 watch this
haha thanks Q, appreciate you!
Sometimes you have to buy online. My hiGH end gear is not sold in the U S of A.
Where do you go to buy out of country?
Japan has a much greater range
There is no 2500 ocea jigger buddy
You're right, thank you for catching that 🤙
they have now 2500hg and 2500mg
All their line of bass rods know for tip breakage. had so many break I venture away this company.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Everyone should use what they love. Tight lines!
Getting jiggy with it… nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
