  • 25 Tips & Tricks For Hatching & Handling Fish Eggs - For Rainbowfish & Cichlid Breeders
    I just hope some of the wisdom and tricks that make breeding rainbowfish, psuedomugils and cichlids easier for me- can be passed on to other folks. Handling, and hatching eggs, getting ready to raise tiny little fry. I learned some of this from gary lange, local fish store owners, local breeders, youtube channels like Lucas Bretz.
    I have used these tools such as paintbrushes and pipettes to make life as a fish breeder and diy fish keeper. These are some methods i use to get my eggs to hatch faster or to prevent eggs from dying from prolonged confinement in their egg casings. By submerging eggs deep under water in test tubes or placed in a pocket until fish break free. Also I will answer some basic beginer questions like, how do i save my eggs from mold, how to prevent fungi and rot on fish eggs, why do my fish eggs end up white and fuzzy.

    My indispensable tool of choice are syringes. The 60 ml long nozel is perfect for vacuuming the bottom of fry containers and surface film removal. Cut it on an angle makes it safer for sucking up fry and eggs. For a bigger hole cut it higher up. ALWAYS draw up the plunger a bit first so you empty the contents before plunger is fully depressed so you don't risk squishing fry etc. NEVER pull plunger all the way up as it risks popping out. Practice a bit before trying on eggs and fry but it's perfect.

    When your talking about walking around or jiggling eggs are you talking about the same action that an egg tumbler does to keep flow over eggs therefore keep assist with hatching. Just as the male fans there eggs ? And at what stage after egg laying would you do this,,, 3-4 days or ?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  4 года назад +1

      Very last stage...when the membrane around them just doesn't seem to hatch, even after half the others have hatched and you see tiny fish eyes in the eggs. It's a bit more violent and shaking or jerking motion than fish egg tumblers. Gary Lange taught me that tip... and also that using too much prime aka dechlorinators, toughens the membranes on eggs in some species...making them hard for babies to burst through

    what do you feed the frys. 95% of my frys die after 3-4 days i don’t know what to feed them i do have very fine crushed flakes i don’t know if the frys even eat them please help

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  6 лет назад +2

      microscopic infusoria or "golden pearls" ...google the pearls, but what i recommend you do. is let another twnk become either green with tons of algae and some plants with all higher nitrates, yet still no ammonis. most tiny fry loves aged "dirty" tanks until a few weeks when they can eat other live food

      not really, i have them for a long time. even when i clean my tank or trim my plants they just swim naturally and waiting for food. Only the threadfin rainbows when gets stressed do jump a lot.
