    Ben,
    I am so glad that you were able to get rid of that pesky hole in the head disease. I enjoyed the cichlid and coffee live stream on Saturday. Always a great time and love hearing your progress and trials etc. even veterans of this hobby have issues. That fritz salt is awesome I use it to. I also have the GKM both the 24 watt one and the one for 55 gal and below. I have used them for a while. I removed them out of my tanks not because I didn’t need them anymore. My 55 gal is planted and thriving. 😊 the 90 gal where I used them 24 kw uv I don’t use more. It does great on algae blooms. I am so glad none of them died and you did lose a Buenos Aires tetra. 😢 appreciate the video.

      Not entirely "rid" of it just yet but certainly feeling like I've turned the corner on it.

      I don't remember hearing much about UV 30 years ago ... maybe among the salty crowd and the discus breeders. We certainly have access to more options these days. It's a mixed blessing. Thanks for watching!

      Exactly. My first video in the series expressed my frustration over not being able to find any clear cut info on HLLE that wasn’t full of contradictions. I hope this helps others to move quickly into resolving this issue😀👍🏻

    So glad you have a success story.. Do you think you could do a short video on using aquarium salt? I'm thinking of using it in my tanks, one of which is planted. I'm new at this hobby and can't seem to wrap my thoughts around salt and fresh water fish. Thank you. And would you also give a short instructional about UV? MY 90 G is always a little brownish cloudy. It's in a room with a southwestern facing long triple window..

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  Год назад +1

      I haven't used salt in a live plant tank I do know that it helps with slime coat stimulation and bloat/constipation. The GKM 24w model should work wonders in keeping that algae at bay. More live plants (assuming it's a planted tank) will also help since they will out-compete with the brown algae in getting the nutrients.

    If you can catch the fish, put a little hydrogen peroxide on a qtip and touch the area , it should clear it up

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  Год назад

      diluted down, right?

    • @johnlarsen8308
      @johnlarsen8308 Год назад

      No, because you put a small amount on the Qtip and then the fish goes back in the water within a second. , one of the store owners in Chula Vista should me a video and it worked really good. He did it on an Oscar cleared it up in about a week

    Do you use activated carbon? There are a few studies that show a causal relationship that the use of carbon leads to hold in the head.

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  Год назад +1

      No. Only use it for a short period after medicating, but pull and toss after a free weeks.
