  • Deltic diesel number 55009 (D9009) "Alycidon" made short work of The Capital Deltic Reprise, performing outstandingly throughout.
The charter had set off almost an hour late because of a mix up with rolling stock but had been cleared to work at 95mph and had no difficulty keeping time, even making up 10 minutes of the lost time between Doncaster and Peterborough.
Our first location was the recently completed Old Denaby footbridge near Mexborough. The train's circuitous route allowed for an easy trip to the famous Bawtry viaduct on the South Yorkshire / Nottinghamshire border.
Later in the day we caught the return working at Conisbrough, a South Yorkshire town famous for its Norman castle.
For those who don't know, the Deltic diesels were the most powerful single diesel locomotives ever to operate in the UK (at 3300bhp) and were famous for the wonderful deep throated roar from their twin two stroke diesel engines. "Alycidon" was built in 1961.
    Recorded on 29th July 2023.
