The amount of comments that didn't realize this is a video showing you how to make a chiller for ground fog is amazing....lol. He is demonstrating how to create ground fog with your existing fog machine. A normal fog machines produces fog that rises and fills a room. If you want the special effect of fog staying on the floor, a chiller cooling down the fog helps (As well as certain fog juices).
Several people asking about small fog machines or they are not getting similar results. On a lower wattage fogger, they probably dont have enough muscle to push the fog through this. You can try putting a pvc "Y" connector on the inlet side. Hook a fan to the straight through leg of the pvc and position the fogger to shoot into the "Y" leg. This will have a venturi effect. 3" or 4" pvc works good. Others saying they have 1000w machines.....dont connect or tape the duct work to the end of the machine....allow a few inches between the nozzle and the duct.....this also will create a venturi effect and draw air into duct with fog.

You don't need the trashcan or any of the other crap, Just the fog machine. I work with them every day. They cost between 2000 and 4000 dollars and use a water based fluid heated to 900 degrees and expelled by a small pump.
Dan - if you want to avoid the mess of melting ice cubes, forget the trash can and the cardboard box, and just fill the pipe with freezer blocks. I've been doing this to chill fog for years and it works a treat - with no mess (and you can use the blocks over and over of course) :)

Secondly, I may try putting the holes higher so that when the ice melts it won't leek out. And I'm sure the reason for having a 16' tube rather than just an 8' one is that the longer the fog has to travel through the freezing tube, the better the result. Again.. Great stuff. Adding rock salt to the ice makes it much colder. As low as -5 F. Which in turn will chill your fog more, make it much denser and cause it to hug the floor or ground much better and longer.
And it leaked water all over the floor, from out of those 4" holes, correct? Maybe cut the holes higher up on the trash can, so that the melted ice stays in the trash can if you are indoors and you can dump it out later. Just a thought.
The original designers are Ghosts of Halloween in 2001. Their trash can chiller won in the 2004 HauntCon Chill-off competition. They used semi-rigid aluminum dryer duct which chills the ice better with less ice. The box isn't a good idea it collects too much fog inside of it. A lawn & leaf bag (credit to Count Zero) on the outlet works better or nothing at all. Entertaining video though!
I tell you why it's not really working. Instead of water ice, you need dry ice (CO2), and the liquid into the fog machine needs a upgrade. Pour more Glycerol and Propylenglycol, this makes the fog denser and it last longer, your fog made of 60% distilled water is dissapearing within seconds which means that you can't cover your floor with the fog.
Why not put the holes in the lid of the bin? You will have a longer exit hose, but it should not warm up enough in that short run to make a difference and you'll not have water leaking out everywhere.
You'll loose a lot of momentum of the fog that way, and thus the fog gets more time to warm up again! The more the hose is in contact with the ice the better. Just make sure the holes in the side of the bin are just above the ice level. In that way the smoke does not need to travel up and down as much and the melt water can not escape thru those holes. tip: make a smaller hole right at the bottem of the the bin and put a garden hose tap in it to let the melt water out when you're done.... you can buy these in any DIY shop. (and use a smaller/lower bin than he used, lol)
