Every comic is someone’s first comic. That was Jim Shooter’s philosophy wasn’t it? Anyway, congrats on your 100th video and thanks for providing so much great content… 🤩
@@MattGarveyComicsIt's very concerning when these people in the comic industry using comic as a tool to force some politcal views into the readers that mostly young children and thanks for reply Matt.
Comics have ALWAYS been political, buddy…it’s nothing new… Superman…is a refugee and has always dealt with immigration and the bigotry towards it. Captain America has literally been to war and fought fascism… The X-men is an allegory for every and all minority dealing with hate… Dude I could go on…politics and comics go hand in hand, matey.
Alright making this after watching the video and I agree, but one thing that sticks out to me personally. Is that the reading experience and a consistent tone of the comics narrative and pacing have a massive impact on my perception of that comics quality.
The problem is not with comics, but with classic superheroes. The embarrassing idiots who think it's cool to dress like a clown in public. I've never been able to identify with that. A hero's journey is three thousand times better. Either a good hero's journey, or cool antiheroes, like Donald Duck, Darkwing Duck, Shrek, or Spongebob, to name a few. That's something normal people can identify with. I really tried to come to terms with classic superheroes. That was hell. Especially when the forced politics were added and the whole thing became absolutely insufferable because of that. No thanks, I'll stay in Duckburg and Bikini Bottom by choice. I prefer nice characters. It's better for the psyche. In the modern DC universe, I would have run amok. They're not people, they're monsters!
I guess the whole problem with entertainment media. "It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know." Like Marvel's New Warriors and I am not star fire. But there are those who have actual talent.
@@MattGarveyComics Yeah... The entire Internet laughed at two trans characters literally named "Snowflake" and "Safespace." I'm not making this up. Also "I am not Starfire" is just a self-insert. My problem is the higher-ups looked at this and thought " yep. This looks fine." I mainly believe it's stuff like that is why people don't like comics anymore. That's why they are moving to manga and comics that don't push some "message."
Hmmmm...not the greatest of names, but good on marvel for trying to be more inclusive of diversity characters in those comics. I’ll definitely check it out.
@@MattGarveyComics I don't mind LGBT+ characters being in media, like Borderlands and Arcane. I just don't like what Hollywood has been doing. Even those who are trans admitted they hated New Warriors.
enjoyed this as usual… and i totally agree.. the only thing i hate about modern comics is the story arches that make u have to buy a bunch of comics you dont usually buy… i mean its a super smart business move to introduce people to new characters and comics and get emhooked… but as a poor bastard that kinda sucks… also have u thought of running for prime minister… that speach was fantastic lmao
Even though I am tempted to say all new comics are shit, it’s hard to say it because there are some well written and illustrated books, however there is very little NEW stuff happening, no risk just rehashed ideas and pretty pictures. (Very little variety in art styles) What I have to come to believe is that 1) Marvel and DC are corporations that take zero risk and churn out bullshit books due to that core restriction 2) Modern comics are not written into a long term continuity, they are short runs that build zero incentive to buy back issues to research the IP, in a bigger way IE their is no drive on behalf the reader anymore to learn about the overall character arcs etc. There is no Bible of overall continuity and constant reboots which is just a crutch for shitty writers. I actually think it’s the worse time I have ever seen in comics and I have been reading since 1985.
People watching this are naturally going to take for granted it’s about American comics, mainly superhero, and your definition of comics, in the publisher examples you use, are certainly 100% US-centric. So maybe the title should actually be, Why Do American Comics Suck? 😊
You misled me into thinking I was going to glimpse your dark side, only to find myself getting the equivalent of a lovely hug...You have some idea how uncomfortable that makes me😐 Congratulations on 100 videos Matt.

Cheers buddy!!!!!
You have freeed me from A LOT of madness!!! Thank you for some sense and some humour and lots of LOVE!!!
No worries buddy, thanks for watching 👍
This don't address the main issues and problems that's continue to plague the comic industry. Tell me why Manga is more popular than comic then?
Because trends are circular….Manga was huge in the 90s too when I was a kid…then “disappeared” and it’s back again and crushing it!

Because the stories in manga can cover any genre and any subject, while comic books are just superhero stories.

Cheers for watching, matey and i hope you’re still finding comics you enjoy outside the ones you don’t anymore.
Well, this was just clickbait! There was no controversy here! You were informative, and charming as always. Sigh. Congrats on the 100th vid. :)
Ha cheers mate! Thank you so much for all the support
The only caveat I'll say is the throat shoving of social justice garbage has ruined comics.
Nah…I disagree.
Comics are just reflecting the current climate and that’s not a bad thing, also they they have ALWAYS political.

Tbh i just really hate the art. Most artist try to be too artisy. I just want gorgeous art.

ha...i could never really be controversial...i love comics too much! ;)
agree 100%, Matt
cheers dude!
So your argument for why comics suck is... they don't???? 🤔 😂
Yep, deal with it 😜
I agree ✨👍🏻
Cheers
I've eaten a thousand meals, therefore I know how to make a good meal.
It's a false equivalence.
I disagree, but you are entitled to you opinion too.
Thanks for watching 👍
Comics of today are resumed to bad art tons of cgi stuff and woke propaganda
That’s why manga eat their lunch
If you say so matey
