Turbo Kid was an excellent post-apocalyptic film that I saw which was released fairly recently. It basically is a combination of the action, science fiction, superhero, and post-apocalyptic genres. It's a film where clean water is scarce after wars have ravaged the landscape and a vicious gang strong-arms the surviving population. It's an hidden gem with gratuitous violence and blood. Keep up the good work!
Doubly that for Turbo Kid. I saw it in the theatres and it's like the ultimate italian exploitation post apoc film in it's tones with alot of Dead Alive cartoon violence along with it.
Split Second was an amazing find back in 2019, it was released in 1992, and is a sci-fi horror film that stars Rutger Hauer as a cop from the "near future" of 2008, that goes after a "not so human" killer. It is not exactly a masterpiece, but it is loads of fun.

been a long time watcher of this channel and you have guided me through an unforgettable and invaluable filmmaking journey. you were one of the first film enthusiasts that i started watching and it has taught me a great lesson. i can't remember an overlooked italian post apocalypse flick on top of my head, but one of Red Letter Medias BOTW videos were a post apocalypse italian flicks and there are great ones there
As a fanatical Post Apo-Movie Collector and Fan, I watched this video in the assumption that I know all of these movies. Thanks to you, I just added „Knights“ to my dvd Collection (there is a french dvd, which includes the original language). So there you go!
Another great new video, Cecil. I love 1993's Knights. I will try & get the dvd & I have definitely heard of Hands of Steel. so I will be adding it to my tubi watchlist. :)
I can think of one post apocalyptic movies that you might find interesting - "The Ultimate Warrior" staring Yul Brenner, Max Von Sydow, and William Smith. It could act as a sequel to "No Blade of Grass" in that it's set in the then year 2012, when all of the grass has died out to to some virus and what's left of mankind is barricaded in a small city block protecting the only clean water and hybrid grain supply. Yup Brenner, wearing his cowboy outfit from "The Magnificent Seven", plays Carson, a warrior for hire, who is tasked with escorting Max Von Sydow's daughter out of the city and to an island off the coast of the Carolina's, where he's heard that society is rebuilding. William Smith plays "Carrot", the leader of the gang sent to stop Carson. It can be found on DVD on a double bill with "Battle Beneath the Earth".
Hands of Steel cover art was very iconic here in Brazil (well, to me at least). A toy company ripped off the cover art and released a very popular line of military/soldier action figures named SOS Comandos to compete with GI Joes 3 3/4 (named Comandos em Ação here in Brazil). Those toys were everywhere, bet most people here know the toys but don’t know the movie… Great video though! Thank you very much!!!
Yes, thanks for mentioning World Gone Wild! I love that movie. The song played over the ends credits is awesome. Have you talked about Dune Warriors, Slipstream, Cherry 2000, Hell Comes to Frogtown, 1990: The Bronx Warriors, or America 3000? Or maybe Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds? Le Dernier Combat deserves a ton of respect as well.
Excellent research. I'm not sure if you have it in a previous video but a TV movie called "Where Have All the People Gone? " is a very doomsday end-of-the-world type film on a budget. Although The movie takes place on the day of the disaster not years afterwards. It stars Peter Graves who some might remember as the host/narrator of "The Light of Zartha" in MIB.
I haven't seen a "new" post-apocalyptic film in years. The last one was _The Bad Batch,_ and I'm not sure if that wasteland was really a post-apocalyptic world or just the wilderness where the future society throws away its parias. I liked that movie but I don't know if recomend it, its a very "artsy for stoners" romp
My friends and I loved Knights and rented it all the time. Prototype was that video where the box art stood out but we just never pulled the trigger on renting it no matter how many times we considered it.
All look like an interesting watch especially "No Blade of Grass". Cecil have you seen "Where have all the people gone..." from 1974 with Peter Graves. It's a decent / watchable post apocalypse made for TV movie it's on RUclips.
Oh! That reminds me! Have you ever seen Circuitry Man? My buddy Joe went to school with the director in the MBA program at Central European University in Budapest. It's freakin' amazing--easily one of the best low-budget, cheese-as-hell cyberpunk films I have EVER seen.
I literally thought the virus "specifically striking the grass family" was a clever pun in the title and the whole movie would be a claustrophobic study of Mr. and Mrs. Grass and their children suffering with a plague that only affects them.
One really good obscure post apocalypse movie that I watched allot when I was young back in the mid 2000s is the 1995 movie Steel Frontier staring Joe Lara and Brion James
Holy shit! No Blade of Grass? That has GOTTA be a deep cut, dude! That is a film as far as I know that no one ever talks about! I really hope VinSyn gets to restore it on Blu-Ray since they have good ties with MGM. As for other post-apocalyptic films, you can't get any better than A Boy and His Dog (1975) and The Salute of the Jugger (1989) which you recently featured here.
World Gone Wild is a favorite of mine....It's another 7 Samurai riff. Bruce Dern is great just for his wardrobe a lone. Fun fact, he wears a tshirt referencing Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh the subject of the Wild Wild Country documentary from a few years back about the cult that took over an Oregon town.
I just looked on RUclips and found that Knights available on there. It says it was added on there 13 days ago. I thought you might like to know. Thank you for turning me on to this movie.
Hell of a batch this time. And not only with the always classy John Saxon, but also with Big Ape himself! I've heard a lot about No Blade of Grass, and it all seems like the movie has the very dark, depressing motif of a lot of 70's sci-fi. Just from the little bit you showed in the video, Knights has some solid fight choreography. Everything I saw looked spot on. Prototype was one of those permanent residents of the video store that was always very noticeable thanks to the costume, but somehow I never got around to watching it. I'll have to correct that. One question inspired by a photo in the overview of the first movie though. Is corn grass?
Watched World Gone Wild on late night cable in late 80s. Was one of my go-to movies for years. Fun action flick. Also has a killer soundtrack with music from Steve Jones of Sex pistols.
No Blade of Grass, yes! I think I recommended this to you before! this is dystopian though, not post-apocalyptic also check out: Terminal Island The Final Programme
“The quiet earth” is currently on RUclips, but it’s super slow moving, and only technically post apocalyptic. More of the “last man on earth” trope. It’s an old NZ film
What's that post-war movie that open up with some guy riding on a wind-powered hand car on a railroad track? I believe he was an astronaut when the bombs went off. I seem to recall watching this on late-night TV waaaay back in the day.
I'm torn about "Six-String Samurai" not being on the list. (IMHO it should be mandatory viewing for all Fallout: New Vegas players) On one hand, it's an amazing movie, on the other hand, *NOT* being on the list means it's not overlooked?
I've known about Hands of Steel and Prototype, but not of the rest but look and sound really cool! Prototype I knew of the poster but the robot reminded me of the ones in Apex. Finding out it was the same director in this vid, made it click, dude loved his Killer robots. Hope you do another one of these, you're the best when it comes to this genre. One of my favorites is a film called Virus: The Day of Resurrection, which is from the battle royale director, Kinji Fukasaku. It's a got a really engaging story with interesting twists on a large scale, which is amazing given it's budget being the highest in japan. It also has a fair share of american actors like George kennedy, Edward James Olmos, and Vic morrow in it.
Cornell Wilde stared in a movie I think you covered Gargoyles. Think he was up for an academy award for a movie I haven’t seen for decades Naked Prey about fighting for survival in Africa
do you happen to know the movie "carver's gate" starring michael paré? i really liked the trailer, when i was about 9 and i think i watched the movie as well. tried to find it again, because i don't even remember, if it was good or not, but no luck so far.
I have been wondering if there have been sales or viewing bumps of movies that has been reviewed on this channel. Weird Al parody’s a song and the original gets more popular. Has the same thing happened with any of the movies here with your review?
Back in the day I used to have a bunch of the movies I covered on my Netflix DVD list. Whenever I put out a video I would notice that some of them would go to "long wait", which meant a bunch of people were trying to rent them. That was the only metric I ever really had to see if I had any impact. With most of these being on streaming, there is no way for me to see if these videos have any effect, aside from comments saying they were going to watch them.
I LOVE Defcon 4. Its kind of a mess, it had 3 directors and they ran out of money so they had to shoot the ending in the dark. Its always stayed with me though and the cover is awesome.
Would you do one day a review/exploring of a favorite film of mine called "Breakdown"? I don't know how to explain it properly but it has a very similar feeling to the first Mad Max.
I wonder if he has seen Six String Samurai. I honestly can't remember. Anyway, I enjoyed that as a bizarre look at what the United States might have become had the bombs dropped in 1957 as everyone feared they would.
90's me watched so many of these movies mentioned in this series, that or either all the covers are super familiar. Because then it was all about the cover art.
I haven't read every comment, so forgive me if these are repeats, but PM Entertainment made a film called Steel Frontier with Joe Lara that had some pretty great stunts. And 2013's Bounty Killer is a fun Mad Max ripoff with some good desert chase sequences.

I just looked on RUclips and found that Knights available on there. It says it was added on there 13 days ago. I thought you might like to know. Thank you for turning me on to this movie.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks. I watched it and you were right. It is an entertaining movie.
Another Albert Pyun with similar premise is Omega Doom with Rutger Hauer and another riff on the Yojimbo plot
If you're not watching in full screen. You should see this comment right about 0:57
Watched World Gone Wild on late night cable in late 80s. Was one of my go-to movies for years. Fun action flick. Also has a killer soundtrack with music from Steve Jones of Sex pistols.
There seems to be a lot of grass growing in Not blade of grass.
1:38 As a lover of pointless foreign subtitles, this isgreat. It says "Knights - The knights of the future"
No Blade of Grass, yes! I think I recommended this to you before!
this is dystopian though, not post-apocalyptic
also check out:
Terminal Island
The Final Programme
Thanks! I did a video on Terminal Island a while ago :)
TIL there is an arm wrestling movie not named Over The Top.
in this day and age any "post apocalyptic" films would be "apocalyptic" LOL Love the videos sir X)
Thanks!
Great video Cecil!! 'Knight Riders - 1981' would be a great video for you to make.
Knights! One of my favorites!
Thanks I have been looking for knights. I could never find it after seeing it coming soon on puppetmaster vhs
“The quiet earth” is currently on RUclips, but it’s super slow moving, and only technically post apocalyptic. More of the “last man on earth” trope. It’s an old NZ film
The Quiet Earth is seriously in my top 5 films of all time. I adore it.
Too good to be "good bad." On the other hand, Def-Con 4 is just bad enough to be.
What's that post-war movie that open up with some guy riding on a wind-powered hand car on a railroad track? I believe he was an astronaut when the bombs went off. I seem to recall watching this on late-night TV waaaay back in the day.
I ❤ John Saxton. Slot of greats in the films listed.
Turbo Kid!!! Best modern PA film
I'm torn about "Six-String Samurai" not being on the list. (IMHO it should be mandatory viewing for all Fallout: New Vegas players)
On one hand, it's an amazing movie, on the other hand, *NOT* being on the list means it's not overlooked?
Michael Jai White + post apocalyptic = amazing movie that needs to be made.
Cornell Wilde stared in a movie I think you covered Gargoyles. Think he was up for an academy award for a movie I haven’t seen for decades Naked Prey about fighting for survival in Africa
You had me at George Eastman. Grrrr.
do you happen to know the movie "carver's gate" starring michael paré? i really liked the trailer, when i was about 9 and i think i watched the movie as well. tried to find it again, because i don't even remember, if it was good or not, but no luck so far.
I think I saw it on Scifi ages ago.
Turbo kid was a great post apocalypse movie if you haven't seen it.
Have you seen Defcon 4? It's not great but has moments and a baddazz cover.
I LOVE Defcon 4. Its kind of a mess, it had 3 directors and they ran out of money so they had to shoot the ending in the dark. Its always stayed with me though and the cover is awesome.
A personal favorite of mine from the 80s is Solarbabies!
Would you do one day a review/exploring of a favorite film of mine called "Breakdown"?
I don't know how to explain it properly but it has a very similar feeling to the first Mad Max.
My Uncle designed the robots in A.P.E.X!! I have the signed copy of the VHS!
Awesome!
I wonder if he has seen Six String Samurai. I honestly can't remember. Anyway, I enjoyed that as a bizarre look at what the United States might have become had the bombs dropped in 1957 as everyone feared they would.
I saw No Blade of Grass a long time ago. It terrified me. I needed to watch it only once to be convinced that ecology is fundamental.
Would Six-string Samurai be considered a post apocalyptic movie?
Yes! and a good one
Does Repo! The Genetic Opera count as a post apocalyptic movie?
90's me watched so many of these movies mentioned in this series, that or either all the covers are super familiar. Because then it was all about the cover art.
I haven't read every comment, so forgive me if these are repeats, but PM Entertainment made a film called Steel Frontier with Joe Lara that had some pretty great stunts. And 2013's Bounty Killer is a fun Mad Max ripoff with some good desert chase sequences.
Great video. Thanks.
Kris Kristofferson AND Lance Henriksen, and I've never heard of the movie "Knights"?! MAN I love this channel!!
I'm doing my job then :)
