I didn't see enough training that would have made Snakes Eyes a certified ninja. He literally went from a street brawler to a ninja overnight...
I thought that too. I did really like storm shadow.
So the backstory in G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra where he started training as a kid while making rival with young Storm Shadow made a lot more sense.

I had another thought and it was that the snake eyes movie did a reverse Goku from dragon ball evolution.

GI Joe Retaliation was the only thing that introduced me to GI Joe period and I thought Snake eyes was pretty badass.
Yes Retaliation got Snake Eyes down perfectly, the character, the costume, etc.

They changed his race because apparently having a White actor do martial arts in films/tv nowadays is classed as whitewashing, although weirdly they overlook the concept that Having to be Asian to do martial arts is racist😂

Hollywood Identity politics, a lot of people left the movie liking Storm Shadow more the Henry Golding. They had a great origin from the comics and ruined the movie with this new stuff.

You know that's what I thought too. Until I found out he doesn't put the suit on till the end of the movie.

Blame the director Robert Schwemtke. Director of RIPD, Insurgent, Allegiant, and RED. Hes jist not a good director. I knew we were in trouble when he signed on. I got bored

They changed him cuz it just seemed right. Either that or they couldn't really find anybody right the part.
The shaky cam made it irritating.
And it was pretty boring. I wanted to get into GI. Joe and I wanted to like this but it just kind of sucked.
I think marvel's infinity saga set the bar so high that most movies after that has to do better or come close to satisfy audiences. And I'm talking about all movies in general
I find Golding a very full leading man. Hollywood keeps pushing him though.
I like Baroness here, but Scarlet felt shoe horned in.
Fight seens were bouncing around all over the place. Felt like I was a third guy. Was waiting for the main character to say hurry up and catch up to me. It bounced that much. Baroness being a Spanish woman felt weird. The last thing that got me was you are not special force after qualifying, you have to complete the training and snake eyes in the movie never when threw the training. So by the end he is not even a ninja.

I don’t get why so many people hate this movie
I personally really liked this movie. I hadn't had such a wonderful movie experience in a very long time. This was my introduction to the franchise, so I am a complete casual movie watcher with no previous expectations. (I didn't even know if Snakeyes or Storm Shadow were supposed to be the good guy)
I am just sad I can't seem to find anyone else who enjoyed this movie like me.
Dawg the closest 4DX theater near me is in Nashville, TN. Which is 2hrs away 😒

Soooo basically the overall movie is that there is too much action and it gets boring. That's something new I heard. Usually its "MORE ACTION, less boring" for the audience. I havent seen it yet, but hopefully plan on watching it this weekend

'80s -- Snake-Eyes has no family when he arrives at the Ninja temple, but finds a new home with the Arashikage.
Same story right?
Except in the SE Origins movie, as a child Snake-Eyes watched his father die, grew up without a family and came to be a vengeful, cocky, selfish man with a secret agenda when he arrives at the Ninja Temple.
In the comics Snake-Eyes grew up with an intact nuclear family -- a Mom, Dad, and especially a twin Sister that he was super tight with -- who all loved and cared about each other. He grew up with Clark Kent type traditional values and love for his country that carried with him into his military service but when he got home from the war no one was there to greet him at the airport because his whole family, on their way looking forward to picking him up, got killed by a drunk driver. Shattered and left with nothing left to lose, he shows up at the Ninja temple and becomes the best of all of them because since he has nothing left in life he throws himself completely into the Zen Buddhist teaching seeking to erase his pain and all worldly desires.
Those are two pretty different characters, right?
And the whole working with Cobra to get revenge on your father's killer? That's kind of Storm Shadow's thing in the comics.
You'd think he would just tell the clan so that they could him double cross Kobra, but nah!
They had the perfect setup for a movie with the comics storyline.
Not to mention the driver that killed his family was Cobra Commander’s older brother, who also was killed in the crash. This is why Commander hates Snake Eyes the most out of all the Joe’s.
No offense but Ray Park and Lee Byung-hun’s portrayal of the characters is still my favorite.

Unfortunately the sick fight scenes were plagued by insanely zoomed in shaky cam. Blows my mind.
There really weren't any sick fight scenes. The other GI Joe movies had better action
The fight scenes were slices and stabs but no blood or dismemberment, and way to many enemies all the time for any good choreographic scenes. It was a cheap mess ending with no one becoming good enough to defeat the regular guy main villain
Snake Eyes always been my favorite and he just works Waaaaayyy better when he doesn't talk and you don't see his face. Makes him more badass, the only thing ill give this movie is that his suit is the best live action interpretation of the suit we've gotten
Just found your channel looking into some Snake Eyes stuff. You seem mad chill so I'm subscribing. GI Joe probably could've used more black dudes but Roadblock in the cartoon was dope. I only really liked the Ninjas which is probably why I got my Arashikage tattoo you see in my display pic. I'm the same way with Mortal Kombat too though so I'm pretty predictable I guess.

They can't count on nostalgia to bring me to the theater. You know what they can count on? My teenagers who had gijoe toys from the recent movies and the anniversary toys(which i may or may not have bought for myself as much for them) they wanted nothing to do with the movie. My boys are already getting bored with movies about toys, comics, and so on. They need to make things fresh again.
Always loved Snake Eyes and Stormshadow. They’re epic rivalry was one of the best rivalries in pop-culture! I absolutely adored his original backstory, being a white outsider who was taken in and trained, and with Stormshadow not agreeing with him being a part of their clan. Snake Eyes being an outsider amongst an elite ninja clan gave me that Last Samurai kinda vibes, you know? And I really felt that.
So you can imagine my disappointment when they completely retconned his origins with this film. The moment I realized the MANY changes, I instantly did not recognize this film’s existence. I knew it was gonna be bad, and vowed to never see it. I actually listened to Jeremy Jahns’ spoiler review of the film and I thank God above I did not see this film. Man, it sounds like garbage… Very disappointed right now…
If you only watched the 80's cartoon you were left in the dark about their backstories. Its the original comic which was really the meat and potatoes. The cartoon was just to sell toys lol

I had the origin story comic book as a kid, loooooong time ago. I had all of his and storm shadow figures. You nailed it, the real back story was great. I don’t even want to see my favorite character get butchered in a generic action movie
Its crazy to me how Larry Hama signed off on this. Its not even the same characters
If you didnt know they are trying to ruin everything... from the past and what people loved. Also tends to be things that men are more likely to enjoy.
Hollywood really wants to demoralize all of men, while giving females all what they want.
In this particular case its sad because Larry Hama (G.I. Joe comics creator) was exec producer in this which means he is partially to blame.

The movie was horrible, it's okay to say it. This is supposed to be Snake Eyes. No excuses. This was a promotional for Daniel Goulding on the shoulders of a character and franchise kept relevant by a fanbase for decades. This is a trend in hollywood that's destroying every IP it touches.

Like 99% of the cast is asian. 99% of the movie is shot in Tokyo. So someone please tell me why everyone is speaking English? Completely ruins the movie for me. No suspension of disbelief. I guess because it's a Hollywood movie every character in the movie prefers to speak English now 🤯

I don't mind if they made him native american, asian, black etc, but as soon as you have a hot-shot actor in the role, you know he's not going to be a mute. And the helmet stays off most of the movie. Plenty examples of that. Ryan Reynolds and Karl Urban did their masked/helmeted characters better. And Ray Park did an awesome Snake Eyes!

I still don’t understand why you promote him wearing the costume in the trailers and the posters yet not have him wear the costume in the film. Also the trailers spoiled the ending and end credits of the movie.
For the same reason He-Man was in all the marketing materials and trailers for MOTU:R: To get the existing fanbase to see it by creating an expectation.
in the movie poster it looks like he's carrying one of the swords from ghost of Tsuchima
I really do agree. Just left from watching it and I was very pleased that to me it was a pretty well rounded movie. Few things why I was impressed by it 1) im a fan of Golding and Koji and seeing them as bros was like almost a dream come true 2) the acting was not really bad 3) the action was jsut on point knowing the choreographer for Rurouni Kenshin did the work...however, yeahh i dont think you will remember this movie right away. BUTTT i really do think this is good introduction for certain actors such as Golding being involved in action cinemas, and seeing Andrew Koji star in a movie for the first time (in my experience). Long story short- A movie you wont remember but it opens doors for the actors for more action movies.

It's really hard to like a movie if you don't like the HERO, and it's really hard to like the HERO when the hero is actually the villain of the film.
JUST SAW IT:: Less than 25% thru the movie I did start to drift as it didn't capture my desired mark. The movie seemed to become more of a struggle just to get to the ending.
I fell asleep and then left the theater thats how boring it was. The trailers looked generic as well. Shang Chi will absolutely DESTROY this movie

It was that middle part of it that kinda bored me........ it starts off ok but just like action movies nowadays have that point where there's too much talking in the middle and by that time everybody is exhausted on it by the time it picks back up
