I've never seen this movie. I don't care about GI Joe. But I consider this one of the all-time greatest fight scenes in cinematic history. The rage, the choreography, the intensity, the ambience. Just fucking incredible.
Oh thank god!!! After watching the new live action version I had to rewatch this fight scene to bring my world back the way it should be. THIS is Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow!!!
The only thing that makes me sick is the absense of blood. Snake Eyes had his hand trespassed by a sword and Storm Shadow had his vein sliced open. It had to be a river of blood.
The act of Snake Eyes burying Storm Shadow was a nice touch on the part of Resolute's creators. I find it amusing that although this had but a tiny fraction of the budget in comparison with Hollywood's take on G.I. Joe, both films were pitiful and utterly lacking in creative depth compared to this lowly animated feature. The only thing I would have changed about this is I'd probably have had Storm Shadow speaking Japanese instead of English, but that's a very minor complaint. G.I. Joe: Resolute was very well done.
storm shadow is multi lingual you know which is common for assassins he has likely spent the past decade or so mostly speaking english so its more natural to him njow
The best thing I loved about the "GI-Joe" franchise as a kid were the Ninjas! Lol Good stuff, glad they upgraded this series into something more serious.
I didn't appreciate them editing out Scarlet's choice to remain with Duke after years of going back and forth. It helps reaffirm the point that Snake Eyes isn't just some cold, faceless killer. He has very deep emotions. And a kind soul that the Hard Master saw worthy of his legacy.
@@jocelynthom2904 I think "Duke and Scarlett" are a nod to classic American culture. The Duke being John Wayne and Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind. But yes, far too clichéd.

@@troopergio no hes not, he was taken in a taught by the Arashikage but hes not Japanese. In fact if you look up the old gi joe comics hes blonde, he used to take his mask off alot more back then.
Love the whole sequence. Grew up watching GI Joe after school in the 80’s. The only thing I HATE is changing the reason Storm Shadow hates Snake Eyes. I always loved Storm Shadow and saw him as a likable villain who wasn’t always a jobber and whose character was treated with more respect. Changing the story about him believing Storm Shadow was responsible for his uncle’s death cheapens the character and makes him shallow. I don’t even care that he lost because of the awesome way it was done. I do like to think Storm Shadow should be superior H2H because Snake Eyes uses modern weapons (which would give him a huge advantage if he used it) while SS focuses on traditional.
I remember seeing this movie at Adult Swim 10 years ago when I was like 12 in half years old. That was my favorite scene. I even forgot that one part where Snake Eyes broke Shadow Storm's Blade.
from what I understand, they were going to have Storm Shadow come back in a later sequel with him being very messed up psychologically due to him taking these 7 blows and essentially being killed in spirit. Like he was going to be just a vessel of rage and hate but not knowing why due to his spirit being annihilated here.
Well...considering the final blow of Seven Steps to the Sun in a palm heel strike directly to the T section of the nose and eyebrows..and the kind of force Snake Eyes puts behind those blows...yeah..I can see that. His first blow to the chest would have been fatal as the air pressure alone from the strike went THROUGH Storm Shadow's body..out his back..blew out the back of his Shozoku and the backpack and scabbards for his swords..so multiple layers of cloth and then wood as well? Yeah...I can totally see him coming back with more than a little brain issues as well as the metaphysical aspect of essentially killing his spirit.
@@ShinKyuubi i would pay MONEY to see this sequel because i would want to see how Storm Shadow returns. Back alive, but severely messed up or whatever they would have went with

I love this one really cool part is when Snake eyes slices the arm bands off of Storm Shadow to kind of tell him that he took his own path but he had a choice
I am not a big Joe or fan of ninjas in general, but this sequence, and the story while snake eyes was at the dojo, was really good I enjoyed this more than I should when I first watched this
What's even worse is that before Snake Eyes leaves the USS Flagg, Duke gives Scarlett an ultimatum about choosing between him and Snake Eyes and Scarlett chooses Duke right in front of Snake Eyes right before he's heading out on a mission that could lead to his death, that scene made me hate Duke.
Wing suits actually exist. They can make you glide on the air like flying squirrel for miles. All you need is to jump off something high like a cliff or an airplane.
I think Storm Shadow's words were a confession of sorts. He knew that his claims of morality and honor were only a burden on his resolution to kill Snake eyes and now he had let go of that burden. This new found found resolve forced Snake eyes to use the seven steps which he had never been forced to do.
To be fair, Snake Eyes' entire head is covered, and his vocal cords were irrevocably hurt by Zartan's first shot. He could probably grunt, but it seems he didn't. Also.... it probably would have hurt even MORE to pull the sword out of his hand, yet he does it so casually.
Holy body-count Joes, this new age GI Joe show kicks ass! As an 80s kid I obviously loved the series (why else would a 40+ year old man still be a fanboy). And I tried to love it through all the crappy eras past the late 80s. That was a torture in fandom. But still, even the original TV series kinda sucked cause GI Joe action figures carried guns and we're trained to be soldiers (i.e.kill if they gotta) but only shot lasers that only stunned. I get it, after school tv wasn't ready to slaughter while kids did their homework. That's cool. But still a let down. This show goes there. It's badass. Sorry I was such an old school snob and intentionally ignored this show when it originally aired. But I'm not some blood thirsty idiot or think that kids should see killing as entertainment. It's just that GI Joe, by definition, is a series based on warriors and adventurists who face battle. So you kinda have to go there by default. I think this series is (relatively) tasteful, creative and artistic in a way that shows a great example of modern cartoon craft.
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was always the best! I also watched it in the 80s, Storm Shadow used to kick their ass back then!!! Just by watching this, look at Storm Shadows gear compared to Snake Eyes...…..Snake Eyes has been getting crazy updates over the years!!!!!

That's the best I can say without going spoiler mode. PS: you never see how he learned to fight, he's just amazing and learns how to be a master ninja with no training at all, oh, he also has a thing of saying he's not a murderer, he spares a very important guy to his story because he was just following orders, screams and everything, but he has no problem in killing the mindless Yakuza minions who run around. All in all, just shit.
That last seen in which storm shadow's grave is empty. Did Snake Eyes go all out or was he holding back? Or did Cobra dig up his grave so that they can revive him?
Much like the comics that bore them, Storm Shadow has been dead a few times now only to come back later. That was quite common in comics...and soap operas. Several characters have died only to come back in later issues under weird and miraculous scenarios.
Here's the background on Snake Eyes: Snake Eyes is the code name of a member of the G.I. Joe Team. He is the team's original commando, and much of his history and information, including his real name, place of birth and service number, have remained "CLASSIFIED" throughout all depictions of his origin. All that is known for certain is his rank/grade (originally U.S. Army Sergeant/E-5, eventually reaching Sergeant First Class/E-7 before it too was made "CLASSIFIED"), his primary military specialty is infantry, and his secondary military specialty is hand-to-hand combat instructor. Snake Eyes was trained at the MACV Recondo School (Nha Trang), and served in LRRPs in Southeast Asia with Stalker and Storm Shadow, eventually leaving the service to study martial arts with Storm Shadow's Arashikage ninja clan. He has undergone drill sergeant training, and is a former U.S. Army Special Forces and Delta Force operator. Very little else about his past has been revealed. Snake Eyes was living a life of strict self-denial and seclusion in the High Sierra with a pet wolf named Timber when he was recruited for the G.I. Joe Team. He is an expert in all NATO and Warsaw Pact small arms and a black belt in 12 different fighting systems. He is also highly skilled in the use of edged weapons, especially his Japanese sword and spike-knuckled trench knives, but is equally qualified with and willing to use firearms and explosives. Snake Eyes is quiet in his movements and rarely relies on one set of weapons to the exclusion of others. During one of his first missions for G.I. Joe, Snake Eyes' face was severely disfigured in a helicopter explosion. Since then, Snake Eyes has had extensive plastic surgery to repair the damage, but his vocal cords cannot be repaired. He usually wears a black bodysuit, along with a balaclava and visor to cover his face. When out of his uniform, Snake Eyes is shown to be Caucasian with an athletic build, blonde hair, and blue eyes. Snake Eyes has been shown in most continuities to be romantically involved with fellow team member Scarlett. He has also had several apprentices, including Kamakura, Tiger Claw, and Jinx. His personal quote is "Move with the wind, and you will never be heard."

Past cartoons? It's subjective, but anime would take action any day. IMO cartoons were more fun
@@FatKratos69 yeah i agree, that's why i said "seem"
It ks definitely a subjective thing. Now then, Anime usually has a more detailed or realistic art style and a more consistent history line. But there are japanese cartoons that are just like the over sea ones (do not have the usual anime art style and do not have episodes that connect to each other a lot. Much like the simpsons or something like that)

Heretic and holding Stormtrooper blasters.
While shooting at the A-Team van
They should also wear brown pants

You do realize that Storm Shadow was born in the United States right?
@@markaldersonjr109 I do know that. I also know that Thomas Arashikage is shinobi and speaks fluent japanese.
Why do they always got her to stick with Duke? It's too cliché. She and Snake Eyes are a far more fascinating pair and they share a deep, unique bond.
@@jocelynthom2904 I think "Duke and Scarlett" are a nod to classic American culture. The Duke being John Wayne and Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind. But yes, far too clichéd.

I like what you write. Especially, about Storm Shadow.
I like how snake eyes doesn't need to say a damn word they just know what up and he goes and does his thing
Deadpool 9684 well, Snake Eyes is mute so...
He couldn’t speak even if he wanted to
I've seen a lot of GI Joe in my day, but THIS takes the whole cake.
Back alive, but severely messed up or whatever they would have went with
@@crazyman7671 This is an underrated little gem as it is, I stumbled on this vid by complete accident some time ago looking up stuff for Snake Eyes as I was in a nostalgia mood for GI Joe. 6:14 You already know why, Storm Shadow!!!!!!!! Your sensei has chosen Snake Eyes for being "true successor" for completing the training and has excellent experience.
The technique is called
Seven Steps to the Sun
Holy shit, this G.I. Joe incarnation is awesome, I especially love this part!
anyone notice how when Storm Shadow hit him at 8:30, you hear like a cheetah or Jaguar roar, and then at 9:33 when Snake Eyes hits him it's an Eagle or falcon sound. is this supposed to mean anything? just wondering.
Jose Garza big cat symbol for massive strike power. Big bird is a symbol for speed and pressision
The steps were based on a fighting style called Kung-Fu. Each one embodied ad animalistic nature of fighting. Also they are called the 7 steps to the sun so each step gets closer to the sun persay and an eagle is a flyer whoch is close to the sun
Holy shit...I didn't even NOTICE that until you pointed it out..and I've watched this at least 5 or so times over the last..like year or so cause it's one of the best fight scenes I've seen for G.I. Joe.
@@wolf_soul_king6663 wouldn't the Crane or Dragon also be considered close to the sun?
@@johnlloyddy7016 Yes it would but if you think about it that kind of technique and skill was mainly used by the Grandmaster who had to understand the world around them thus was able to master the final step. Kieran from Cinemassacre was just talking about how awesome this short is, and yeah, it's pretty awesome.

The sound effects for the swords are super realistic
That's some Great 2D animation! If the 80s TV show had looked this good, I would have watched it!
This has aged surprisingly well.
I think Storm Shadow's words were a confession of sorts. He knew that his claims of morality and honor were only a burden on his resolution to kill Snake eyes and now he had let go of that burden. This new found found resolve forced Snake eyes to use the seven steps which he had never been forced to do.
Snake Eyes.....strong and silent type = BADASS

To be fair, Snake Eyes' entire head is covered, and his vocal cords were irrevocably hurt by Zartan's first shot. He could probably grunt, but it seems he didn't.

Reality Rejection Service he also used that hand to palm strike his ass
C Pulliam agreed this is how a G.I Joe film should be.

Here's the background on Snake Eyes:
Snake Eyes is the code name of a member of the G.I.
Do you know what sword he is using? A ninjato or a Chokuto? No tsuba.
This...THIS...should have been the script for the GI Joe live action film. Great stuff !
