    McKenzie forms - narrow face, good for deer younger than 5.5, lots of options, eyes set well, good ear butt placement; always seem to have more loose flesh around jawline on midwest deer, Meder - best choice for midwest whitetail - broader face - thicker body deer, easy eye set, nose pad is smaller than other forms, need to really sink corner of lips in form since lip line is shorter , Matt Thompson - larger forms are great - good ear butts, wider nostrils, more reflective chin - deeper, best feature is facial structure with natural Roman Nose, eyes are more difficult to set (thicker foam sockets) - eyes tend to focus more forward - great foam quality, Mears - used their older forms - a little to thick all the way around - great for Midwest deer - strange on a SE whitetail, new forms look fantastic.... Buckeye mannikins - more old school forms.

    Sculptors of forms, deer included, are generally tailored for the region they hail from. Ben Mears is a southern boy, thus what you've come to like with the fit for your deer. I may not be totally correct but from what I seen over 20 years ago, his forms were molded as a catch all or catered to a mid-west deer. Very nice informative video, it seems that you have gone the extra mile to educate your clients and portray their trophies as accurately as possible.

      Thank you! His new forms are incredible. He has redesigned the head and his really big forms are great for the northern bucks I get. The vid I did on the 315 lb live weight buck was a Mears SSR26 and fit like a glove!

    Out of 50 deer I mount, 38 on 6900, maybe one on 4600, the other 10 or 11 between the 8400&9600. If I ever shoot a big one, it’ll be on joe Coombs 9500 wall ped. Fantastic form. Thanks for the video!

      My buck was done with ohio taxidermy. It looks better then the mount I had done with a Makenzie. I'm from NY and the taxidermist told me he uses Ohio mounts due to they are made more structured around the north Eastern deer structure. Don't quote me that's just what he told me but I think it looks better then the Makenzie myself personally.

    I like OTS G2 and Matuska for Minnesota deer. HQ are nice to. Order 2 Ben Mears last year both had to big of a D measurement so couldn't use them.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Год назад

      It makes it a little tough sometimes since Mears don't provide a D measurement. I usually get a good fit by taking the D measurement on my cape and subtracting 2" and then ordering that number as the B measurement.
