    Sean I really hope you see my comment. Because of this video, I corrected myself with my calling today and literally within 20 mins of hunting, 4 doe came out and behind them was a huge body 8 point. Clean shot and it’s my first buck ever! Just wanted to give a shoutout to you and thank you for teaching me the correct way to call. Thank you!

    You are 100% right call once every 5 minutes or more! Early season I like using the fawn call! Fawns I have seen where they are lost or don't know where their mom is blatt and blatt on and on! I do this and sometimes a doe will come running in or walking fast! Looking for her little one! But only works when she is not with her fawn! Mid october it's to late here for that to work! Where I have to hunt it is very thick woods - an old cuttings! So the grunt for me don't work! State land where there are way to many hunters and Bird hunters!

    This past Saturday, I had the exact same thing happen to me. That morning, I had 8 bucks cruise by me all morning.
    One particular buck I used a bleat can and got his attention. He turned away and started walking. I then snort wheezed him, and that REALLY got his attention. He did what any typical buck would do. He walked down wind of me and started sniffing the air. After about 30 seconds, he didn't find what he was looking for and scampered off. What was important to me was that he didn't snort and took off running.

Been rifle and muzzleloader hunting for several years but still fairly new to archery hunting; using a used discontinued bow. I really enjoy this style of hunting. I called in a couple of deer last year using a grunt. One doe, and another time a young buck. The buck came in looking for me. He spooked when I raised my gun (the rising sun was directly behind him and I couldn't get the cross hairs on him), but him being young and inexperienced, I grunted again when he was 100 yards off, and he came back in. I harvested that buck. Another time last year I had a deer grunt back at me, from somewhere in front of me but I never saw it. I hunt public land from the ground, sometimes in a popup and sometimes setting on a seat on the ground.

    Here's a tip. If you are stillhunting (moving very slowly through the woods, pausing frequently), and you accidentally snap a twig, stop and give a tending grunt (one steady low grunt about 1-2 seconds long), and wait a minute or so before taking the next step. You won't cover a lot of ground this way (if you do, you're stillhunting incorrectly) but the sound of the tending grunt will reach out a considerable distance especially on a calm damp day, and any deer in the area, buck or doe, may come and check you out. I once drew in a doe this way and she had a buck right behind her. When a buck is sniffing out a hot doe's trail, he will make that inhaling tending grunt whenever he smells a drop of her pee. Any deer will snap a twig now and then, but only occasionally. They will hear you the first time you snap a twig, but if that's the only one they hear, and then hear a tending grunt with it, they won't spook. You go through the woods snapping twigs frequently and the deer will peg you every time and the most you will see will be flags flying in the distance.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  9 месяцев назад +2

      I would not recommend that on public land especially if crossbows are allowed in that state. Letting out a tending grunt could get some idiot Hunter thinking he hears a big buck coming.

    • @seansoutdoors

      That's a general rule of thumb but I've observed deer just come straight in without circling down wind. Regardless, I'm like you and prefer to not call usually. Still, it can work as I grunted in an 8 pointer for a shot yesterday that otherwise would have walked off in a different direction.
