  • Most mannequins made for deer heads are not going to match your exact measurements for your cape. In this video I explain some of the things to watch out for and how to avoid mistakes when choosing form sizes.

    Boy or boy you are so right! I learned some tough lessons myself ordering too big of a form and having to shave that bad boy down. Too much extra work!!! I’m thinking this year about measuring the neck in front of the customer so they know it’s not as big as they think lol. Another good tip thanks my man keep em coming.

    Those are some true words spoke and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had customers come pick up their deer and they say my deer had a bigger neck than that. I just tell them no it did it because if I did, I’d be able to put it on a bigger form.

    If you get time, could you do a video on how you do the back of a pedestal mount? I dont like tucking the hide and I cant seem to leave the hide on the edge to possible curl later on! i only do a few deer and year and a lot more people are wanting pedestals after I have done a few. Appreciate it

      I absolutely will. Funny you just asked this because I did 4 pedistal last week and was going to do a video on them, and completely forgot. But, it's coming on the next pedistal I have to do.

    What would you consider to be to small of a form I understand going a bit smaller like you explain in your video not bigger / my measurements from eye to nose is 8” and my neck is 10” on one side so it would be 20” what would be to small for those measurements thanks for your help

    • @thecedarridgechronicles

      18 7.5 would work, but you will probably red to build some of it up with clay where needed

    I’m going to be doing my first ever on a doe. The head is made for a buck. What do you recommend? Maybe bondo?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  Год назад

      The anatomy is slightly different on each, so the cape might fit a little funny, but as long as your measurements are the same, you might can make it work. Just dry fit it first and make sure

    So I’m Running into were I can find a form from the right b measurement but the nose that they have for it isn’t close what is your thoughts I also had trouble finding a wall pedestal form that would fit the two forms are ordered always come up too big in the D measurement around the swell

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  11 месяцев назад

      You can usually go up 1/4 inch on nose length and 1/2 inch short on nose length. I would always go down 1 size in neck measurement before going way too big, but if it's only 1 size too big you can trim and sand the form

      Thank you my last question is if you have a small around the eye ether in from or back how would you go about fixing it because the skin is so think would super clue be ideal

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  11 месяцев назад

    When you cape out the deer for the taxidermist, do you salt down the skin, eyes, nose, mouth to preserve it? Or borax? Or nothing and freeze it, or salt and freeze? or what?

    These Tasco forms with the preset eyes and nose done only show the nose and 1 measurement and it doesnt reference which one it is. Any idea which measurement they are showing?

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  3 месяца назад

      I would assume it will be the B measurement on a McKenzie. Probably the same way Mears Whitetail Forms are

    What size is the average deer cape in Alabama? I’ve got to find a cape for a old mount.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles
      @thecedarridgechronicles  2 года назад +1

      A good 3.5 year old average would be 20 inches, and a mature buck average about 22 inches on the "B" measurement using McKenzie taxidermy supply's measuring system.

    • @thecedarridgechronicles

    Nice, but depending on the $$$ you paying to those idiots taxidermy, most hunter wants their buck to be big with a muscle neck like in their rut foam. Nobody wants to pay you over $500 for a doe neck or in early season buck foam. I had coupled of those deer mount in the past and ain't never gonna go back to those type of taxidermy. Might as will shoot a doe and put her cape on it... lol
