You really just need to get one tiny screwsriver or plastic spudger in there and pry. Takes two seconds once inside the seam with your thin but strong tool.
Thank you, your video helped me, but i did it easier: after you get into the gap between aluminium cover and plastic body near usb3.0, just lever up the cover with a wide metal spudger. It will make most of work.
This disk inside belongs to the catastrophic Rosewood serie ... to avoid for back up ... search the term ... and when it fails, there are no signs before, they only become not recognized, and the data recovery is quite impossible
how to tell if it's SSD or has spinning platter inside??? . I know computer has system report but it only shows tons of acronyms and abreviations that layman can not undertand !

I haven’t seen a single video that disassembles to the part where I need to get to the disk. Believe me, I’ve looked at every video there is. Not a single person has tried to remove the screws to get to the disk inside. That’s why I’m here. I’ve seen other external hard drives that have easily visible screw. But there’s none I can see. I believe they are hidden under the white layer of paper. I don’t want to mess it up. But I guess I’m gonna have to go to Walmart or target, get the same one, & use that one as a dummy and practice first. :(
same, found 2 screws under the white sticker. im afraid to remove the last one that holds the disk's center. its also a smaller size than the rest of the screws. no video shows how to open that model... ill have to contact someone i know for help....
It would be a big help to know what the blue plastic tools are and where to get them. Didn't really need to spend two minutes watching you opening the box and showing that there were instructions inside, etc..
Tony, you are a god-honest m0r0n This HDD is not the same as other easy-to-open Seagate Slim series HDDs. Don't you see it has a frikkin metal cover all over? Make a video where you open it in under 2 mins and prove him wrong, will you?
I've been using one of these as an external for over a year now. Might as well open it up and put it in my laptop instead.

Great call! this video scared me, good effort though by the poster.
TQ BRO U SAVE MY TIME
good to know that it is a sata connector inside. Thx
Thanks for a video, could you tell me the serial number or model of Hard Drive inside of this box? Thx in advance!

thanks for the review, I have a question,
what is that software in the hdd, is it ok to delete it ?
Software is the standard bloatware.
Thank you. Best video on this hard drive. It was a great help.

This is spinning rust. Rarely is this form factor ssd. Price would also indicate ssd etc but price are coming down fast for ssd.

is this a nSSD?
Any speed difference with usb vs sata and Powe consumption difference?
To many factors to say but generally sata is faster as the native interface. This is a slow drive in any case.
@@hidefandy any power consumption difference
@@dinjoDJ I would no or extremely little. These are 5-10 watts only under load.
@@hidefandy I verified with usb adapter it uses 1.7 watts more
Is this a 0.5A or 1.0A HDD??
I see that they REALLY don't want you to take the hard drive apart
Yep. This is destructive at best. Terrible drive but cheap as chips.
@@hidefandyTerrible drive? What are you on? It is a really good drive!
@@telecaster-freechannel9405 It depends on your personal use case I guess. These days it is completely obsolete.

how did it go? Im hoping to do this in two days

What was the hard drive's model number? Is it barracuda or firecuda or just the normal 5400 hdd?
Exactly the same as the older drives 5400rpm ST2000LM007
@@hidefandy Thank you. That is the key. I needed to know if a 7 mm or 9.5 mm drive inside but couldn't read it on the video.
@THE ALMIGHTY It’s a SMR (shingled) drive and long gone from my collection.
@THE ALMIGHTY personally I only used as archival drive.
What is the purpose of aluminium cover?
Since it was intended to be portable storage, it’s a case to protect the drive.
Thank you! Is it a CMR or SMR drive?
SMR
Hi. Is it 7 mm or 9.5 mm hdd?
Thus one was 7mm. Larger capacity are 9.5mm
Thanks sir for helping
Can it be used as internal drive?
At least your laptop have room 1cm hardisk thin
no audio?
Let me get this straight: It took you 11 minutes to open the case. It took me 90 seconds.
good to know barton
Does it work as internal
At the time of posting yes. New models may change.
16 minuets ok is there any other way to open this thing I mean little easy way.?
Yes just pry it open as there is no point trying to save the case.
Jesus f****** Christ Seagate!!! What the hell is wrong with 4 simple screws???
I saw the knife and saoid f*** it

Standard iPhone repairs kit available ubiquitously on ebay.
Thx :D
Thanks you 😊
Thanks you
IS IT 2.5 OR 3.5 INCH ?
2.5
2.5”
Can I put this in my PS4
Yes but not really designed for the purpose. It’s rather slow. Get an SSD instead.
hidefandy do you know how much that costs ?
@@talvinderjit1 probably 120.- + depends where you live
🤩😍😀
this video should be shortened to 2 min. NEGATIVE!

Why? It’s meant to show how painful it is and almost impossible to do without damage to the case. I did four unsuccessfully.
