  • Today is part two of yesterday’s video on why we left California. Today we look at why we chose Tennesse, which was a very deliberate choice. I chat about the good and the bad with our new home state.

I'm a barber in Tennessee, so I talk to everyone in town. Let me cue you in and what people are saying when you're not around. Generally it goes something like this. "There's a LOT of people moving here from California, but it seems we're getting the good ones" lol. So, welcome ✌️

We live in Fort Bragg and are looking to get out of here. Tennessee sounds mighty inviting, accept for the bugs!
I hope too many Californians don't ruin it❣️
    Thanks for sharing.

I've lived in the Tampa area since I was 9 years old(43 years), and the only reason I've ever considered leaving is the damn HUMIDITY.

Fascinating video. 👏 - out of interest when you were travelling for the 4 years were you living off savings? Or were you holding down a job? Appreciate your insight into Tennessee, always wanted to visit 👍

Hey you gotta do a video of the landscape and property. I enjoy conservative areas and the land that comes with it.

Get 4 or 5 Guinea birds. They will really reduce fleas ticks and other ground insects. They are way better at alerting you to people or animals on your property than any guard dog 😂

Welcome aboard. Last summer was the mildest one TN has had in nearly 20 years, wait until after this one. Should be below 100 max even in the hottest times. That Pipe invitation is still open.

The Chattanooga vicinity (especially out our way in Ooltewah) is similar. Apparently there are lots of jobs here -- construction (all building trades), assembly-line stuff (Volkswagon plant), and high-paying menial work (Amazon and Fed Ex distribution centers) -- that have attracted tons of out-of-staters. Our nearest plumbing company seems entirely composed of people who moved here from other states. Maybe it's not just a middle Tennessee deal.

I moved to Tennessee from Germany a little over 4 years ago and people are for the most part great here. I’m happy for you you moved here. I bunch of people moved here from all over the place recently. My sister was visiting me from Germany here lately and I saw the area with a fresh mind again seeing what she noticed around here. She got into conversations with people all the time anywhere. She really enjoyed how people were here and how many things are forbidden in other countries or states or countries and what you are allowed to do here and the other way around. We live 15 minutes away from Pigeon Forge. We call it Redneck Vegas lol. Holla at me the next time you all are around!

Very interesting video. I enjoyed it a lot. I live in Ohio, but my daughter went to school in Nashville and my son is currently studying in Knoxville. Both nice towns. I think I could retire in TN and be happy there. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'm visiting family in Amador County where I grew up, and it was 104 yesterday. But I'm used to Arcata, Humboldt area. I love the beauty and access to nature here. But Tennessee is on top of my list too. Because of, well, politics.

You can expect to see upper 90s during summer. If you don't, then it's a fairly mild one. At least east (as in southern part) and west Tennessee get that hot and hotter (as in 100 or higher for a few days each summer). We have had a few days of low 90s already and it's still May. More generally, yes hottest months (and driest too) are July and August in east Tennessee, middle, too, I'd expect.

Born and raised NETN'an. It is heart breaking how many have moved here and truly do not appreciate our culture and history. Most natives are not able to afford to buy land or even a home due to so many who have moved here and pay cash. I'm glad yall are enjoying it, but praying people stop moving here soon. As far as the run down towns, coal went out, money went away. We do not have infrastructure that CA has had which also ruined that area. Don't judge because those people are not able to afford the things you are. LOW INCOME is a thing. When you come and buy land with cash for 500k, that takes families here 30 years to save up for. Natives, are not loving it.

Same here as a native Middle Tennessean. Hopes of buying a home are looking bleaker than ever. Still holding out hope though as I start a career (possibly in Nashville).

Alright. So I'm glad y'all are experiencing the same thing up there. As a recent CA transport to central TX, I really resound with everything being said. Also a Northern Californian, but think central valley. We've been here about 15 months, I don't even wanna visit CA again. Complete shit hole.

As far as my recommendation for future content...that's a tough one. I followed for the pipe tobacco content. But that's kind of a niche audience. Might be able to reach out to a wider audience by pressing the homestead/escape CA audience. Wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I'd understand it.

@@Jason-Calhoun so, I guess tobacco is why you choose middle Tennessee instead of east Tennessee? If you'd have asked first, I could have told you that, although not as prevalent as in middle Tennessee, tobacco historically has also been grown in east Tennessee.

Argh we missed the memo and moved from Washington state to Indiana! It’s ok after 2 years living here, but we don’t feel settled in, like things haven’t gelled well. We have been eyeing Tennessee as a possibility. Sent you a message on Instagram. 😁
