Watching your content is never a waste of time man. Even if I never plan to even touch the game you're completing this is one of the channels that make my day when they put a video out
I hope I speak for all fans of this show when I say I'd much rather have episodes later than have you or the team lose sleep working on this. I love this channel, but I don't want it to be at the cost of anyone's health!
Unfortunately, since G4 shut down, that's one less source of income for Jirard, so he has to make it up somewhere. If you really want to help out, consider subbing to his Patreon or buying something through his sponsor links in a different video.
My biggest issues that I haven't heard anyone bring up are: turning your back to the enemy causes them to immediately teleport to you. Even if you run. Once they lock on to you, turn your camera to see behind you and start running. They literally drag the enemy to you. Enemies can also hit you anywhere on ladders. If you're at the top and they're at the bottom, you will take relentless damage. They introduce 4 possible enemy factions but only give you 2 to actually engage with. There are guards, Robots, other inmates, and the infected but you only fight the infected and 2 bots. This doesn't feel like a real world you're in.
This game wants you to engage with enemies. Why would it reward you for running away? Now I will agree that it needed different enemies like inmates or other guards. Replace the prison with any other setting, and you you’d have the same game
I noticed that tethering effect whenever I tried to run or reposition myself with multiple enemies. I always felt like I could never get away before they just lay hits on me until I died and it felt very janky.
The dodging troubles that Jirard brings up in the final boss are things that I was dealing with during the entire game on and off, and it ruined so many fights.
The facts that you can legit hold both dodge buttons and your guy will do it "automatically" is a huge problem. What happened to having dodging be a skillful, timed thing. Its sad tbh
The days of mediocre and just ok.....are mostly over when games cost $60-70, have performance issues on day one that sometimes drop the game to like 5-10fps and have a guy in charge of the product who praised the crunch time the team needed to do. This game had a silver platter handed to it and it shat all over it imo
I'm not glad a reviewer, with a huge, cult like following, pretends Mike Tyson Punchout with guns, is a 'next gen' POS. I'm also not glad the 'graphics' are praised, in a world of Adobe After Effects being easier to use, than playing this atrocity of a 'game'. If Dead Space hand a bowl movement, in zero-g, on a 4080 card, this would be it. Five stars, to the anti-diarrheal medication that made me play through this turd pot a game.
I personally found out that's it's best to just sell everything in my inventory, since the game is very melee heavy. I sunk my credits into the GRP and was able to afford almost every upgrade, while avoiding the obvious shitty ones
Seeing the love you've put into this industry over the years and years, couldn't be farther from a waste. You keep shining my dude, we will keep watching
I feel like the thing that separates the death animations in this game from Dead Space and makes them more gross is that in Dead Space, Isaac is wearing his suit 99% of the time. Whereas in this game, Jacob has his head exposed. It's one thing to see something gory happen to a suit of armor which you understand to have a human being inside it, another to see the same happen to a human being itself.
I don’t see the issue with nasty and gratuitous gory death scenes tbh I enjoyed them I think Dead Space has better ones cuz they are more varied, they fit a specific enemy and are more creative overall imo There’s some good ones in TCP and some are only for that type of enemy but a handful can be done by any enemy.
I lost all feeling for the animations when I realized just got choppy the start up is and when Jacob gets his head pop off, it looks the same every time. Gory? Yeah. Creative? No…
I did the exact same thing with learning how to Dodge. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one practicing and dying to those first dudes over and over again
I've been a regular watcher for 5 years now and your content has never been a waste of time Jirard! It's always a joy to see how much passion and love you and the team put into these videos for us! It always makes my day seeing a new video of yours show up in my notification box. I wouldn't mind at all having to wait longer for videos if it means you guys being well, you shouldn't have to lose sleep or crunch just to get your videos out. We'll wait however long we need to for a video if it means having one thats of good quality. We all appreciate you and your team so much Jirard
We're close to 2023 and still have to deal with unskippable cutscenes, you shouldn't have to go through all that instead of being able to just press a button and the game restarting
@carlos pandette I believe the main issue is games being made for both next gen and past gen consoles need these cutscenes and animations to better load the game otherwise the whole skeleton will come crumbling to pieces. Hopefully next year when we see games like FF16, Starfield, etc. their cutscenes will be skippable.
@@carlospandette8001 "Go through all of that" Really? Restarting a checkpoint is very fast, also because it's always in the same spot. I guess gamers these days can't even be bothered to learn how to restart a checkpoint to skip a death scene. No wonder people dislike the combat in this game, if learning is not an option...
I like the new approach to giving your rating at the beginning. It actually intrigues me more into watching the rest to see why you felt that way. However I will definitely say you never waste my time. Just watching you analyze and talk about everything in the game and all that surrounds it, is always fun. Keep it up!
I had intitally wanted this game for the holidays but after hearing about all the shortcomings of the game I changed my mind. Jirard I just want to say I appreciate what you do and I'm sorry RUclips has been such a pain in the ass. I hope things get easier and better for you.
Nothing on this channel is a waste of my time haha This is literally the only channel on RUclips that I will never omit watching. You and your team do amazing work that really stands out
I'm glad that you're able to focus on being just "The Completionist," despite loving you in G4. Only about 7 minutes in, but I'm glad to see you able to put so much thought and energy to make these videos longer. Much love my dude!

Personally, I really loved the game. My only big complaints is the New Game + feature not on day one release. A few minor complaints that need some QoL changes for either later patches or for a sequel. The combat took me awhile to get used to because of certain enemies attack differently so the dodge was also something to get used to but I felt at some time where the dodge doesn't work properly which led to some infuriating BS deaths. QoL changes: 1.) Map - You can get a map from a dead body by downloading their CORE when ripping it out or just give us a map. 2.) Expand the shop - Adding a store option to put some stuff away then grab later would help. 3.) Upgrading Health/Defense - Maybe at the "reforge" you can purchase a serum to increase your health 4.) Weapon swapping speed - When in tight combat with more than 3 enemies attacking, I died soo many times trying to change my gun type to others but it takes forever so maybe some tweaking could help.
I feel this game suffered horribly from overhype. People built it up in their heads as something it was never going to be, a superior Dead Space, and when it didn't live up to the impossible expectations people had of it we got a billion reviews ranging from "It's terrible" to the very common "It's disappointing". I kept myself in the dark about this game once I learned about it and I never got onboard the hype train and so when I played it I legitimately enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong, The Callisto Protocol has some problems but I don't think they're anywhere near as grave as so many reviews have made it out to be. There's no such thing as a perfect game, even Dead Space had its issues even if purists don't want to admit it. The only major complaint I have of the game is it not having static save stations ala it's spiritual predecessor. Having it auto-save before a big fight (the infamous tram section comes to mind, even I got really annoyed there until I learned the true power of the GRP) can be a real problem if you need to sit there and sell all your items off, forge a bunch of upgrades and ammo only to die a minute later and have to do it all over again. Thankfully once you've played through the game once this becomes less of a problem as you learn when you're going to get stuck in such a situation and can prepare ahead of time. That aside I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. It wasn't perfect but it was a fun romp through a familiar yet different world. And, hate it as they may the emphasis on melee combat (particularly in the early game) did a good job of making it, it's own game instead of a complete rip-off of Dead Space; even if it needed some tweaking when it came to fighting multiple opponents. I played through the game three times in the days following Christmas and collected all of the trophies and now that the New Game+ has been added I'll probably do an "All upgrades" run. And I'm sure I'll enjoy the story DLC when it releases. I just hope the reaction gamers have given it hasn't killed any chances of a sequel. *TL'DR -* I think the game was fun. I have minor nitpicks but nothing that destroyed the experience for me and I'm almost certain the middling to negative reaction it's received originates from people expecting it to be something much more than it was ever intended to be. Had the game come out without the specter of living up to a nostalgic, genre defining classic I highly doubt we would be getting nearly this level of backlash.
Man I'm gonna miss listening to the videos and trying to predict how you'll rate it at the end. But I know a lot of people watch these just to hear that. I personally loved hearing your journey and then give your recommendation. But I realize I might be a minority here. Your videos are never a waste. I love hearing you talk because it genuinely feels like a friend being passionate about a game they played trying to convince me to play. 50% of the time I try a game reviewed here because of your passion.
@@crdude806 Parasocial relationship. Look through this comment section or any other creator. A lot of these people are under the impression that they know or are somehow connected/friends with these creators. They don't know you exist, they're not your friends, and they don't care about you, they can't.
Your vids are never a waste my guy. You’re also a absolute saint for practicing that combat system for so long because it honestly sounds mundane and miserable.
Yeah, that's honestly all I've heard aside from the game being bang average, is the combat is awful. I've not had time or money to play it, but it definitely doesn't look good.
My respects to you for putting in the hours that you do for a game. Especially one that just came out. Each game you complete must be a very personal experience for you. Kind of like getting a tattoo. You and the game are forever bonded. it’s something that changes you forever after the experience. Love your content 🤘
Great episode man, you did some amazing work on this one. The moment I saw the Punch Out in the background I knew exactly where it was going. Also as someone who tried to do the "change the difficulty" trick, I can say they patched it out. So hey, you're experience will now still be true for anyone going for the Platinum.
I mean, on the one hand: I'd love to see a "horror stuff boxing game", but as something sold on "we're trying to be Dead Space 4" that's...disappointing on two fronts. Because it's not really "good" as either of those things.
That'd be a huge shame if true. I think with the original dev directing this game, they could of likely released after the remake and been just fine. Either riding off the hype of the DS remake, or filling up the hole left by the DS remake depending on how that remake worked out. Could also be an inb4 the holidays kind of thing. Regardless, if the game wasn't quite ready, they should have delayed it (might sound like hindsight bias but that seems to ring true for any game that is released before its time, happens way too often).
I've been watching this channel, and SBB, for a solid decade now and I still watch (nearly) every video. I have absolutely 0 interest in ever playing this game, but its still interesting to watch your process and learn about the game. Keep doing what you do, Jirard. We will still watch you! But prioritize your health. Don't kill yourself just to get us a video quicker, we will still be here!
hopefully it does a mass effect to mass effect 2 glow up if it does get a sequel. from what i've been seeing the combat and level design are probably the biggest points that they should work to improve on.
Being okay is always better than being bad, but you're ignoring the context of why being okay is disappointing for this game. This game had a lot riding on it and was generally perceived as the spiritual successor to Dead Space, hence why people are disappointed with it being okay despite it not being catastrophically bad.
@@TheMrCHELL Something that is (objectively or subjectively) “bad” at least gives you something interesting to discuss. Plus there’s always the “so bad, it’s good” possibilities. I’d rather play a game that has me walk away angry than one that I leave with vague feelings of regret and an overall sense of “meh” or one that left me saying “Well. It was okay.” In six months, if you ask me something about Callisto, I’m liable to draw a blank other than remembering I was disappointed by it. Ask me about a game I feel is actually bad (or terrible), and I’ll be able to give you a bullet point list of everything wrong with it, even years later.
My first time fighting two head was quite underwhelming as it died in three riot gun hits and I thought "That's what everyone thought was a hard fight?" aaand it changed until I fought it the second time where it smacked me up, even with the two additional enemies helping it
Great job as always! It's great to hear someone put into words how I felt about Callisto. I wanted to love it so much, but I just like it. I'd recommend it, but on a sale or something, and I even bought the collector's edition. Just to add on, I think another shortcoming is the game's first half is just about escaping, and the second half is about what caused it all. imo, it would have been better to sprinkle hints of the root cause from the beginning with the audio files rather than shoving it all out there in the latter half of the game.
I really like the verdict at the beginning. I'm still watching the whole vid, because your content is awesome, but the early verdict gives the opportunity to get your general thoughts without getting spoiled. It's something I'd love for you to keep, especially for newer games
I really appreciate the time and effort Jirard put into completing this game and getting this video out to us as fast as possible. I was about to buy the deluxe edition because the additional content sounded cool. But Im definitely glad I held off on buying the game and watched this review first. I was SUPER hyped for Callisto Protocol, as I know many of us have been. But after watching the video, I can tell that I would have been really disappointed with it. Maybe I'll give it a try when it goes on sale. I would like to experience the parts that did seem solid. For now I'll keep my hopes up for the Dead Space Remake being badass and delivering the experience we were hoping Callisto Protocol would provide. And hopefully Striking Distance will have learned a few things from this release and bring us a new title that keeps the well-executed aspects of Callisto Protocol, but greatly improves on the disappointing ones. Id be willing to give them another chance in the future.
They actually had a better main character story in Dani Nakamura. She has motive, horrible past and literally want to uncover the story. The main dude just accidently meet every enemy, half of the story he doesnt even want anything beside gtfo, so when he encounter plot story he just doent care.
Definitely. Also, they tried to play off this whole redemption story arc with Jacob but he had nothing to be redeemed for. Is a lorry driver culpable for the items he is given to transport? Obviously not so Jacob has absolutely no moral culpability for the events of the game but it pretends like he has got to make up for his actions. The whole thing is so dumb.
@@Seraphiel123 Except it's heavily implied Jacob *did* have some degree of fault. He may not have known exactly WHAT he was delivering but his dialogue makes it very clear he knew he was transporting illegal goods. He outright states that this is the reason they'll "never have to work another day in their lives". Of course he couldn't fully appreciate exactly what he was carrying but he still knew he was operating outside the law. So, yes, when he learns that his cargo was what killed untold numbers of innocents on Europa it makes complete sense that he would feel responsible for what happened. If you bought illegal drugs, thought they were safe and sold them, but in the ensuing party it turned out that they were shoddy fakes laced with poisonous chemicals (a very common shortcut in the drug industry) that wound up killing people would you not feel any responsibility? Ignorance doesn't make a person innocent if they were still aware the actions they were taking were morally questionable at best. Your argument would only make sense if he had never been doing anything shady in the first place. If they'd been hidden on his ship and he truly was ignorant of their existence then yes, it wouldn't make sense. But he did know they were there, and he knew whatever it was, was worth a lot of money to the wrong kinds of people. Most people would feel some form of responsibility, especially when innocent lives were caught in the crossfire.
@@Goldenkitten1 I don't think that at any point it is stated that Jacob knew he was delivering illegal goods. He only finds out later. He was a trucker paid by a reputable organisation (United Jupiter Organisation - basically the Government) to transport goods. He may have had some reservations about the ominous looking cargo but it's not his place to check it out further than that and that doesn't make him morally culpable for doing his job. When he sees the cargo he says "it's none of my business" and he is utterly right. Would you want a lorry driver rummaging through your delivery parcels? Of course not - he's just a professional. If the US government paid poor old Tim the Trucker to drive an anonymous package from Washington DC to Mexico City and back again and the package causes a disease outbreak in Mexico City then it's not Tim the Trucker who is to blame. The whole story is just ludicrous from start to end.
You always make awesome content, you and your team. Never feel you need to rush or lose sleep, this should be something you guys enjoy doing, not something you feel obligated to do
This and pokemon scarlet/violet are basically just perfect examples of ambitious devs who rush out a project without taking time to refine and finish it and honestly it's killing my love for gaming I'm so tired of bugging half assed games coming out and never taking the time to make it work.
@@MR.__G you could NOT be more wrong. why should we blame people who are excited for things that they think they'll enjoy? it's on the people MAKING these products to make a decent one. the mindset you have right now is the same mindset of someone who says 'you should have looked both ways before crossing the street' when you get hit by a car that ran a stoplight.
@@DBfan106 why do you think these gaming companies can get away with half ass, non creative work ? The consumers will buy. Naughty just remade the last us, which did not need a remake whatsoever. They sold the same game 3 times in 9 years. The remake cost more than the last 2 releases, while not including the multiplayer. Once again the reason they got away with this is because the ppl will end up buying it no matter what… at this point I’m blaming the consumers much more than I’m blaming the lazy devs
@@MR.__G again though, they are NOT the ones to blame. some people don't mind supporting developers, it's not the consumer's job to be the conscience of a company.
@@DBfan106 supporting the same game 3 times. You know how stupid that is when they could’ve easily worked on a new game. Like I said the consumers will keep throwing their money because they’re fanboys. Lucky for me I’m smart enough to not pay for half ass work
I swear everyone just heard “Glen did Dead Soace” and just repeated it without looking into it. He might’ve crated it as the studio head…. But he wasnt a director. He abandoned it right away for COD anyways before the first sequel could even come out and before the studio got it’s cool name (Visceral).
Dang man, me and my friends were super hyped for this. Then we saw the season pass for death animations and reviews on how poorly it was rated on PC due to performance... Dang, I really was hoping for the best for this game and expected a studio that got super screwed over by EA time and time again to finally hit a home run again like Dead Space 1/2. What a shame. Hopefully in 4-6 years they can come back with a better product.
Dude, I think you have some of the best thumbnail art on RUclips. They are instantly recognizable as your videos, and I always pause for a moment to take in the art before clicking on the video. Kudos to your thumbnail artist 👌and thank you for taking the time to make your videos! Now when is the next FPS podcast dropping? Lol
Your right, it is an exceptionally OK game, I feel like it was only disappointing for people expecting Dead Space Jr. A lesson in tempering expectations perhaps? It scratched my space horror itch until Dead Space releases.
This really is the heart of it. This isn't the first game that the hype train has killed, or at least given a beating. People just built this thing up into something it wasn't ever going to be. It started out just looking like a tech demo with a very obvious inspirational source. But when it started to take on better graphics and even staff that had worked on the Dead Space series suddenly it became the "The game that's going to revive triple-A horror" and everyone wanted not just Dead Space anymore but a new, improved and completely superior Dead Space. And when it turned out to be a good but not stellar masterpiece the train derailed quickly. As someone who avoided as many spoilers or information as possible I quite enjoyed the game for what it was and never expected it to be anything more. I was actually quite surprised when I first learned how negatively it was being received but after reading and watching a number of reviews like this I came to realize I probably did myself a favor by not sticking around and letting my expectations shoot through the moon. You'd think at some point we'd learn to not jump on the hype train just because something shows a slight bit of promise but I guess it's just human nature to want the best.
I think if they make a sequal it will be much better since they would have paid off all their startup costs at this point, but as it stands this version is just not enough to justify the 60$.
I was excited for this game (and still am) but it definitely fell from a, "maybe get on release" to, I'll probably enjoy this game more later on when it's cheaper. Looks amazing and having another creepy, sci-fi ship/planet to explore will be fun
I really want to like this game, the atmosphere and sound design are masterful and I'm honestly really intrigued by the story. But the moments of frustration in regards to combating groups of enemies, getting health knocked off by cheap jump scare enemies like those long neck things that blend into the environment, and not having a quicker way to heal or swap weapons weapons just holds it back from being something I was really hoping to fall in love with.
I personally really enjoyed my time with this game despite a few issues I had with it (that stealth section with the blind enemies is absolutely horrendous) Appreciate the content you put out, your stuff is always great (: Keep up the good work!
What do you mean by the stealth section with the blind enemies is absolutely horrendous? Just curious cuz it was easy and fun for me, it was tense at first and enjoyable but I learned how to body them by using heavy attacks on the walls and stomping them yet if I fucked up I threw them into spikes walls or pulled out the shotgun and as long as it’s 1v1 none can kill him up close.
@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls on my first playthrough I struggled with it, on my next 2 I breezed through it, not sure why I struggled with it so much the first time.
@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls 4 playthroughs later I pretty much breeze through the entire game even on the hardest difficulty, really looking forward to the harder difficulty they’re adding, hope it brings the challenge back lol. Love the game though, I think it’s pretty great
My main issue is their lack of imagination with monsters. They are all just humanoid but big, or goopy. Some of them seem to be more intersting but no where near the imagination Dead Space had for some of their enemies.
I think they could have just diluted the melee a tad. It needed more shooter only sections, and definitely way more stealth-kill sections. If they had ripped half the gameplay and story telling power from the last of us, it would have been a real banger.
I had the same issues as you did on the final boss. Kept getting killed and not really knowing why. I realized that the timing for your dodge actually starts a lot sooner. His punches come fast and his combos are long. After dodging 3 or so you kinda relax off the sticks, it seems like you time the dodge just fine. But you actually miss the window. Causing a lot of damage
I had the same issue as well. Took a long time into figuring that you had to dodge sooner. So when dodging the second attack I had to be a lot quicker/earlier swinging my left stick in the opposit direction than I originally thought.
@@Rigbyyyy This, how this is a complaint multiple people are putting forth I have no clue. You literally just push left or right when you see an incoming strike and as long as you're like within the entire 3-6 second wind-up animation you'll dodge it. Hell, if you're surrounded by multiple enemies you can just start moving the stick left-to-right rapidly and you stand a solid chance of getting out with only one or two hits, possibly even unscathed.I mean before I learned how OP the GRP is that's literally how I survived the tram ride. This is the most bizarre complaint. Now I do agree that the final boss needed more indication that you were actually damaging it as the first time I fought it and got dangerously low on ammunition despite launching all the explosives in arena at it I began to wonder if I was doing something wrong. Then it died and I realized it just had a lot of health on the hardest difficulty. So yeah, I do agree there should have been more indication you were actually doing the right thing by just unloading on it but dodging it is almost criminally easy.
The points you bring up are spot on. So far I do like the game for what if offers but it really does get stale when the game relies on melee but feels like it should focus on gun play. I feel like a first person perspective with combat being a bit more like dead island or dying light could have made it feel better but then you can't really have the immersive UI. So far I like the atmosphere of the game and the story but that's the only thing pushing me forward to continue playing.
While this isn't related to The Callisto Protocol, Jirard, take care of yourself man. Don't overwork yourself this December. Get the sleep you need; take the breaks you need. (FYI I mean during the beginning intro where Jirard's talking about being in the final month of 2022)
fantastic video! Thank you for grinding this game out AND providing us a video with your honest take away from the game. Nobody does it like you man keep going strong soldier. Also what's this awesome music you got playing in the vid!?
As someone that platted Dead Space 1 on PS3 and 360.... ALL I needed to hear to buy this game was to hear they finally added a quick turn. Sans that? Hard pass. I'd rather go back and plat DS2. Also I really like how these recent vids emphasize the highs and lows of actually getting the trophies.
It's always nice to see your takes on stuff, though I do hope you keep your health in mind. Sad to hear the game fell so short for so many people, I wonder if the devs weren't a bit too ambitions in some places and not enough in others. If they wanted to make it melee focused, they really should have done a lot more to flesh it out and made the firearms more impactful given what I can only assume is the intended scarcity of ammo. That and the bugs, issues with saving and lackluster bosses, I hope the devs take a hard, thoughtful lessons out of this and push to do better if they intend to do more with this IP.
If they wanted to make it melee-focused they really should've leaned a lot more into that, like say further expanding it either through additional moves, additional melee weapon types, or more interesting melee enemies.
The problem you experienced with Ferris is what is known as... The final exhibition match. Pick your boxer: The Dream or He of the Way of the Mandible.
I havent watched a completionist video since G4 started as I was getting my Jirard fix through there, but while I am disappointed your dream didnt pan out... its good to see you back home. Super excited to catch up on all the content you made during that time and going forward.
It is disappointing after all the hype and hope we all had on this game to succeed Dead Space but unfortunately came up short. While this game isn't a bad game it doesn't capture the same magic.
There was nothing more frustrating in this game that those stupid snake pot head enemies that grabbed you the INSTANT you turned a corner or became visible to them. I think I got to shoot one before i got me once the whole game.
After watching multiple reviews and your video, feels like the game needs more time in the kitchen not just to fix the glitches but also polished UI and gameplay design. Good video Jirard 👍👍
this video was recommended for me. i wouild of sought it out anyway after reading tweets from the competionist explaining this particular episode is live, but im happy to see it on my front page. i will be thoroughly enjoying this
Wow too hear Jirard says dejectedly "play it" says alooooooot about this game. After watching hundreds of his reviews across the years I can't say ive ever heard a review like this one!
I wasn't planning on getting this game, but I enjoyed your video despite that. Thanks for all the hard work you do, and I'm looking forward to the eventual Ragnarok video in the future. Just be sure to savor it rather than rush it. It's a great ride that I'm enjoying, and I want you to enjoy the trip as well. As for the difficulty level, it's becoming more common to allow players to change it mid game, or even adjust individual aspects. However, there should be a firm rule that once you scale down from Extreme mode, you can't go back to it. Ragnarok does it, and I'm sure there are other examples as well. The fact you can change the difficulty right after the last boss is kinda bull.
Been hearing some pretty mixed things about this game, but the glitches are a big problem for a number of people. Whatever the patches bring, here's hoping one of them fixes that final boss fight. Because it sounds like it was straight-up unfair despite seemingly having mastered how the game wants you to play. Chapter replay and something saying something is missing if you didn't get everything in a chapter before heading to the next would also be little changes creating a smoother experience. Anyway, can't wait for the Ragnarok episode.
Totally agree with you with every point, finished the game last night, I even felt a small urge to get the platinum trophy but then as I finished the game on normal difficulty the game didn't gave me the achievement it made me feel so angry and disappointed they I Instantly deleted it from my console... In opposite last year I completed the firs dead space, played through it 4 times in a row and it was fun every single time.
As much as I love Dead Space and wanted more, when I watched the third tech video of this game, I already knew it was going to just be "ok". The way the characters moved in the fighting I pictured this to be the only thing to happen.
"It's not Dead Space, It's less space"

Unfortunately, since G4 shut down, that's one less source of income for Jirard, so he has to make it up somewhere. If you really want to help out, consider subbing to his Patreon or buying something through his sponsor links in a different video.
That's not how consumers think.

My biggest issues that I haven't heard anyone bring up are:
turning your back to the enemy causes them to immediately teleport to you.
@@CharlemagneGuy127 The game gives you plenty of options to turn a 5v1 into a 1v1. You aren’t supposed to be fighting multiple enemies at once.

Its sad tbh

I'm glad somebody is voicing that a "disappointing game" in this day and age is actually worse than it sounds.
The days of mediocre and just ok.....are mostly over when games cost $60-70, have performance issues on day one that sometimes drop the game to like 5-10fps and have a guy in charge of the product who praised the crunch time the team needed to do. This game had a silver platter handed to it and it shat all over it imo
Doubly so when there are so many polished indie games for $10-20 that is literally impossible to play them all.
mmmm
@@nikkis.2066 Yet idiots will still buy 60-70 dollar cash grab remakes and the same recycled pokemon games 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Yup, the gore in this game just feels too nasty and gratuitous.
Especially when he gets his face caved in…also, the death animation from the last boss is the most gnarly
@@marccreation1052 it’s more like mortal kombat death styles, it’s gross but not really scary
I don’t see the issue with nasty and gratuitous gory death scenes tbh I enjoyed them
I think Dead Space has better ones cuz they are more varied, they fit a specific enemy and are more creative overall imo
There’s some good ones in TCP and some are only for that type of enemy but a handful can be done by any enemy.

There's a way to sorta skip death animations, you can pause mid-animation and restart checkpoint
We're close to 2023 and still have to deal with unskippable cutscenes, you shouldn't have to go through all that instead of being able to just press a button and the game restarting
@@carlospandette8001 exactly like what the hell, even the early 2000’s had skippables
I started doing that with the tram ride fight and the final boss because I was just so sick of instantly dying so much.
I like the new approach to giving your rating at the beginning. It actually intrigues me more into watching the rest to see why you felt that way. This game’s stomp sucks, there’s no weight to it. Ugh
QoL changes:
1.) Map - You can get a map from a dead body by downloading their CORE when ripping it out or just give us a map.
2.) Expand the shop - Adding a store option to put some stuff away then grab later would help.
3.) Upgrading Health/Defense - Maybe at the "reforge" you can purchase a serum to increase your health
4.) Weapon swapping speed - When in tight combat with more than 3 enemies attacking, I died soo many times trying to change my gun type to others but it takes forever so maybe some tweaking could help.
This game sucked
Okay, I gotta give a nod of respect for whoever decided to foreshadow a later description with the games in the background of the intro. Well played.

I've seen some speculate that this game was released earlier than intended so that it got out before the Dead Space remake.

Sometimes being just okay is worse than being outright bad.
Why
Being okay is always better than being bad, but you're ignoring the context of why being okay is disappointing for this game.
This game had a lot riding on it and was generally perceived as the spiritual successor to Dead Space, hence why people are disappointed with it being okay despite it not being catastrophically bad.

In six months, if you ask me something about Callisto, I’m liable to draw a blank other than remembering I was disappointed by it.
Totally fair points, Dead Space 1-2 are better, but CP is better than DS 3, and bargain buy is a good purchase for sure

My main issue is their lack of imagination with monsters. They are all just humanoid but big, or goopy. Some of them seem to be more intersting but no where near the imagination Dead Space had for some of their enemies.
I wish it was more of a shooter than a melee game, but i figure the creators would feel like they’d get shit for making “just another dead space”.
You just hold the analog stick left and right… are you serious??
(FYI I mean during the beginning intro where Jirard's talking about being in the final month of 2022)
When I first saw the stealth of this game my mind directly went to evil within 2’s stealth
fantastic video! Thank you for grinding this game out AND providing us a video with your honest take away from the game. Nobody does it like you man keep going strong soldier. Also what's this awesome music you got playing in the vid!?
I’m late to this video but I’m so happy to have completionist content to view on my new iPad for Christmas! Always a fan, love Nick.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Isaac's son, in the Bible, was named Jacob. And this game is the spiritual successor to Isaac's journey.
loved you before and on G4. hope you are taking care of youself and same goes for the team at the completionist.
I just want to know where Jirard's team was for this. Why did he have to do literally everything himself this time around?
I always tell this man to don't over work yourself take ur time your viewers aren't going anywhere
The problem you experienced with Ferris is what is known as...
The final exhibition match. Pick your boxer: The Dream or He of the Way of the Mandible.
I think we can take something from Marques Brownlee for this exact issue: never buy something on the promise of "things to come".
With all that crunch gaming My man jirard is going to be waking up with cold sweats and his hands in the position of holding a controller
All I can think of is the video of M2K trying to wavedash while sleeping
There was nothing more frustrating in this game that those stupid snake pot head enemies that grabbed you the INSTANT you turned a corner or became visible to them. I think I got to shoot one before i got me once the whole game.
I love how the enemies hop back to reset themselves during a fight. Like Bald Bull.
30:25 is just hilariously sad. I can see and feel his frustration.
Gotta say, the Punch-Out remix was awesome!
You can listen to the audiologs while progressing, click play then click whatever your menu button is(closes the menu and audio keeps playing)
The music and games in the background was pretty funny at the end.
Wasn't expecting Amie's music to appear in the review, but it fits so well!
After watching multiple reviews and your video, feels like the game needs more time in the kitchen not just to fix the glitches but also polished UI and gameplay design. Good video Jirard 👍👍
I feel bad jirard...the whole you can change the difficulty whenever you want and not affect the trophy one...is always the most slapping one
It took me 15 hours to 100% this game. Thing is, if I hadn't missed 1 Bio in LOST, it would have been 9 hours.
I Platinum this game honestly with one missing audio log
I pretty much agree with you
It didn’t make us whole again
this video was recommended for me. i wouild of sought it out anyway after reading tweets from the competionist explaining this particular episode is live, but im happy to see it on my front page. i will be thoroughly enjoying this
Wow too hear Jirard says dejectedly "play it" says alooooooot about this game.
I believe its been patched now, but the fact they somehow managed to miss that is unbelievable.
Age gated so I'm here to like, comment, and share. Great vid, as ALWAYS.
Also, seems like Greg Miller just has that effect on people ;p
Totally agree with you with every point, finished the game last night, I even felt a small urge to get the platinum trophy but then as I finished the game on normal difficulty the game didn't gave me the achievement it made me feel so angry and disappointed they I Instantly deleted it from my console... In opposite last year I completed the firs dead space, played through it 4 times in a row and it was fun every single time.
Lmao the Punch Out boxes in the intro. So fitting
As much as I love Dead Space and wanted more, when I watched the third tech video of this game, I already knew it was going to just be "ok". The way the characters moved in the fighting I pictured this to be the only thing to happen.
Is it just me or does his frustrations actually sound good
Maybe due to high expectations? I think Glen will make improvements he is too talented not too
@@andu1854. If he is actually talented, he would have had the foresight to know these decisions are fundamentally wrong.
