  • Birding our way back north through California. We are trying to see 250 different bird species this year and we are currently on vacation in California. In this video, we travel to various birding hotspots from Morro Bay to Moss Landing, through Monterey and back up to The Bay Area of San Francisco.

Beautiful shot of GGB and black phoebe chicks and how much fun to see you in our hood! I live right across the bay and can see those bridges every day (from the freeway going to work which makes it a tad less romantic but that's ok). I was sooo disappointed that you passed up my pick for one of your destinations on the way up, but on the way back even my BFF high fived me even though he lost when you said PINNACLES!! I just knew you would try to see the famous California Condor!!!! And then....you didn't stop... wah wuh...it was a bitter defeat, but eased by all the great footage. Your trip has been a treat for us, thank you so much. We will be popping the champagne when you hit 250...

Thanks a lot. Golden Gate Bridge looked especially pretty on that sunny day but with just enough of the typical misty cloud lol.
Sorry about Pinnacles haha... I'd like to go there sometime for sure. It feels like we could have spent a couple of months in California and still ended up feeling like there were other places we would have wanted to see. If I can get back, I would like to venture further north and also, of course, into Yosemite.

    Lovely!
Bit of a bonus seeing the Sea Otters. 🙂
I wonder how the Sanderling lost it's leg....🤔

      Thanks a lot 😊
I think the Sanderling is doing fine 👍
Their leg is tucked up into their body. You can just see the foot stick out towards the end of the clip. Birds with longer legs tend to tuck their legs up to keep warmer, since it is otherwise exposed skin. Birds with shorter legs tend to hunker their whole bodies down onto their legs, kinda like you sometimes see from Doves.
