My wife and I are annual visitors to Canaveral/Merritt Island and can attest it is an awesome place for birding and natural beauty in general. We drive the Blackpoint at least once every December and often twice during our visit. It is best appreciated at a near crawl for much of the trip as there are so many nuances to the experience that can be otherwise missed. (just leave room for the numerous less-than-patient drivers to get around you and proceed on their way...at times, there does seem to be an abundance of those who expect a more Disney-like experience and lack the ability to carefully find the thrill rather than be hit over the head with it at a dazzling pace.) We originally visited this area for the Kennedy Space Center, but were drawn further in, first by the excellent beaches and then more so in discovering the numerous nature trails and sanctuaries. There are exceptional opportunities for viewing from canoe or kayak as well. Your video is excellent and the photography quality is enviable. Very enjoyable.

Thank you Alun, appreciate it. We stayed in different locations most nights. We were heavily focused on birding, so we just stayed on the outskirts of urban areas in chain hotels. The exception was The Keys where you don't have much choice but to pay a bit more. We stayed there for 2 nights due to our daytrip to The Dry Tortugas. And we stayed a little longer in Orlando because we spent a couple of days at the theme parks there - pretty much the only non-birding days. I'm in the fortunate position where Sara is very good at the planning and research aspects. Our plan was to begin in Tampa and generally move counter-clockwise around the state. We went to each general area with an idea of what we wanted to see based on reports from other birders and naturalists (blogs, EBird reports from the same time in 2023 etc...). But we occasionally adapted our plans based on weather or more recent birding reports. Hope you manage to get out there. Would recommend it.

Coyotes are found almost everywhere in North America south of where you would find wolves. Although it gets a bit messy once you start finding wolves because the two species hybridise. I'm not sure about elsewhere, but here in Ontario, it's hard to find a genuinely pure wolf that doesn't have at least a little coyote in it.

Thank's for another great video. Every new bird to me is a favorite and I get so frustrated when I can't get the picture. I'm trying to get the Henslow Sparrow. I know where they are but they won't come out for there picture. They breed here so I'll try later in Aug. The Dicksiccle is the other. There is one bird I don't have to go to Florida to see. That is the Limpkin. There were several that visited Michigan last year and one stayed thru the fall it wasn't far from me so I had a lot of pick's. I probably won't have another chance to see the short eared owl like last year due are gov destroyed the habitat for solar panel's.😞 I did get the black billed Cuckoo and lot's of the Sedge Wren. Oh, that's an interesting call. It is "rare" and "unreported" on ebird for that location. But I don't know that it's heavily birded. The bird actually isn't hovering, just appears to be. It is flying away from the camera. I've submitted a still image to inat. The AI model leans towards accipiter, but it's a very low res, poorly angled image. www.inaturalist.ca/observations/222963960 Tail looks fairly good for SEO.

Thanks. Glad you were able to recognise some spots. Pity that we didn't have slightly better weather when we were around that day, but yeah, great to get so close to the Jay.

Love the owls 🦉 Those yellow legs are CLEARLY a lesser yellowlegs as they have less leg up top 😅 Another great video of your trip 🎉

Just catching up on videos. Some comments: 1) I wonder if you could delay telling us what the species is to just a few seconds after it appears on screen. This currently only happens about 1/10 birds by chance but I really enjoy trying to guess before you say the name or the words appear. Most bird shots are long enough that I think you could start showing the bird before you say its name. 2) Great that Sarah is becoming more involved. 3) Would love to see you start commenting on bird sub-species (like you did the for the deer). Many birds that you're seeing are a subspecies or another and it would be cool to start calling that out - fitting with your theme of being scientific about your observations. 4) The shorter intro is very nice - you might want to consider trimming the standard intro for when you're back in Ontario (I know it would have taken a lot of time to make). Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, some stuff to think about. Not sure if you saw, but I did do several "Guess The Bird" videos through the course of last year. I've stopped, because they weren't particularly popular.

@@BritHikesOntario I have watched those! I think what I'm suggesting is more of a subtle change that I don't think anyone would notice, but would still give viewers an opportunity to see the bird briefly before the big reveal. Thanks for the good videos!

Awesome, loved the storks, looked like larger versions of our Aussie white ibis.

Just wanted to let you know your Fish Crow is a Boat-tailed Grackle! Fish crows are essentially indistinguishable from American crows by appearance. You can see this has a sheen on the head and the bill is too thin and pointy for a crow

Congrats on the snail kite! It was one of my top birds to find on my recent trip to Florida too! I got really lucky with it too. I happened to be watching a grackle fly into some reeds through my binoculars and there was a juvenile snail kite perched in the reeds in the same direction! I would never have looked in that direction otherwise! It was basically impossible to see just with the naked eye.

Hopefully, but I think the last few birds will be tough and we're not sure yet if the goal might be a little optimistic. Either way, we're enjoying sharing the story. Thanks for watching 😊
