My grandfather flew the DC-3 along "the hump" into then-allied China in WWII. He was a shuttling pilot, though- he flew the DC-3s from state-side to their respective operations bases, _but not_ the missions that they would be used for. After WWII, he worked for Douglas, Learjet and Boeing (contributed to the creation of the then-new 747!).
The princess of the sky, the DC3 old but never never beaten. Time to build them again for short haul flights speed isn't everything she's seen so many replacements go by the wayside
The DC-3 is a Bassler conversion using 1,750 hp Pratt & Whitney PT-6 turbines for power. The turbine conversion is becoming necessary in the North because some communities no longer have Aviation gasoline available. There are places where you can only find jet fuel in large quantities so the turbine aircraft can get into more villages.
@@PlanespotterJourdan California. My father was an Air Force Officer who flew many different planes during his 26 year career, including the C-47 military version of the DC-3. I've been around planes since I was three years old.
I think It's not a dc3 but a basler bt67 dc3 conversion, quite new of course converted n overhauled out of dc3 airframe. Now a turboprop. Nice video please

DC-3 with PT6 Turbo Prop engines !!...amazing !!!😉
Indeed it is!
@@PlanespotterJourdan was it a Basler conversion?
@@rogerwilco4736 Would be my guess. As far as I am aware they are the only name in the business of converted dc-3s
@@rogerwilco4736 It is in fact a BT67
I love seeing bygone era aircraft together with today's. That DC3 has seen a lot, might even outlast those shiny new airplanes, if only it could talk.

DC3, approx 80 years old. A turboDak, so not ALL 80 years old. Still, as they say, you can break a Dakota but you can't wear it out.
