I live 20 miles north of Liverpool and see this beautiful Antonov quite regularly. It has a very distinctive sound and a quick look on Flightradar24 usually confirms that it is passing overhead👍
Absolutely I had it come over my house in the US and the sound is verry distinct and you can hear it for miles as it goes over head and slowly disappears from you hearing it
The sound of the turboprop is so rare these days, my ears always prick up when I hear over London. Last time was a couple of days ago and my FR24 app told me it was transiting from Dublin to Ostend. Reminds me also of my childhood in North London and night time when the cargo flights continued through the night out of Heathrow with the converted Viscounts and Vanguards humming in the air.
Heard this incredibly loud roar come over my house (Netherlands) like two weeks ago. Had to look up what it was, turned out to be this thing. Man it's loud! :o
That sound reminded me of my youth around 1960 living a mile from Mildenhall air base, particularly at night during the winter months with the engines running for ages warming up.
@ you are correct. I watched it take off many times. Also the U2 would take off and clime at a steep angle every evening, we could hear it climbing for ages.
This one is actually quite clean the one that used to come into Cardiff Airport used to smoke a lot when starting up and taxiing to the runway let alone taking off, if you viewed it from a distance you'd probably think it's on fire.
@camencowogh8333 Скажу тебе по "секрету", что после разваоа СССР в КБ Туполева иайком использовали для проекта Ту-330 фотоалбомы и чертежи украинского Ан-70.
I Made three flights across Belarus with Ruby Star about 10 years back,we even opened the rear ramp at 8000 feet one one sector to test the ramp in flight.
Because the plans were stolen from Lockheed. We always called it the C-130ski. See also the C-141ski and the C-5ski. Interestingly, Soviet industry couldn’t quite get the hang of the bearings needed for RORO (roll-on, roll-off) floors, so their cargo planes have gantry cranes.
Looking at the serial number on this plane I saw it at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland Ohio a few weeks ago !!! It's been here several times in the past few months !!!
From time to time such a thing passes over in normal flight altitude where I live and I looked it up on FR24 the first time I’ve heard it and now I always recognize it from the air filling bumble bee humming.
Before COVID, Cavok had some sort of contract to fly something from Doncaster to Scandinavia twice a week and you could always hear it coming over my house about 10pm. NOT a stealth aeroplane!
This plan flew over my house in Kent, I think it was on Tuesday this week on the way to Dublin flying from Turkey. It was the sound that drew my attention , as it was so loud . I checked Flight Radar and it showed the plane as an AN-12 Cavok air . Ukranian.
This is a beautiful plane. However, my worst fear for an 58-year-old plane is not the regular mechanical maintenance to the engines, fuel lines, and avionics, but to an old wing structure that hasn't been replaced since its first installment; however, I am not saying this to be true, but to only suggest where stress loads are the greatest and fracture and fatigue are likely to occur as a result of an old plane, and as possible as what occurred to the now infamous C-130 Hercules fire-fighting tanker in 2002.
Saw this a/c in 2018 at CYYT - St. John's Int'l Airport, Newfoundland, Canada. Can supply photo on request (no charge). It had a different paint scheme then.
Superb. The history.. the paint job, the roaring 4 turboprops ..the sounds!!
My father used to fly on this An-12 for the last few years before retirement as a load master.
...NOTHING TO SEE HERE BUT AWSOMENESS...LOVE THOSE TURBO'S...!
Wow how colourful is this plane, and what a smokey take-off!!
Don’t see clag like that anymore!
It’s powered by… coal. Amazing old tech.
@@kevindelaney1951 Coal oil and recycled motor oil?
@ Nope… one of the most amazing steam powered plane systems ever invented… & the Soviets did it. ;)

@@gordongott127- It’s made a transatlantic flight? Wow. I didn’t know it had the range.
Same, I'm in Melling, and even with the windows closed, you can pretty much guess when they are going over ! Love it !!
Same here , live in Stoke ,very distinctive sound.
Same here in romania.
What a cool looking aircraft
It’s amazing how thoroughly infiltrated the US defense establishment was by Russian spies. The C-130ski.
I love the soothing drone of these planes flying overhead at high altitude😊
beautiful aircraft
Beautiful capture! We all like those old chain smokers! The sound is in ncomparable to any other! Love this one! Thanks for sharing!
Great old beast and Cavok working them hard as ever
I can smell it from here!

Wonderful... A piece of living aviation history. Keep up the good spotting !
i used to hear this in the wee small hours coming over my home in yorkshire , a great aircraft
I always know when they fly over where I live due to the distinctive sound.
Great to have a bit of variety from the endless 737' s and Airbus types.
Magnificent livery!
Old smokey .... Brilliant
Stunning and high-visibility paint scheme!
It flies overhead normally Tuesday and Wednesdays. Going to Liverpool, and then leaving the following day. It has a very distinctive sound.

Thanks for not skimping on the audio! Beautiful machine
❤❤❤Soviet aviation industry was superb.they build and successfully operat huge fleet of different planes ! ! !
Beautiful !

Many of these cold war era aircraft when there engines were built and designed environmental issues wasn't on their list of priorities.
In accounting terms, that's a fully-depreciated asset.
And fully appreciated

Its more than earned its keep and doesnt owe its owners anything. Terrific old bird 👍
Yeah, but that carbon footprint 😂
Do you mean fully amortized?

The SR-71 must have been something else-especially on a cold day.
@ you are correct. I watched it take off many times. Also the U2 would take off and clime at a steep angle every evening, we could hear it climbing for ages.
We often hear it roaring overhead of us in Reading, unique sound, but I still check it out on flight radar.
I often catch this on flight radar 24 as it flyes over Suffolk ,,a very distinctive sound ...
Someone's pride and joy....
Millibund will be fuming at that beautiful exhaust.
Outstanding video! Wow what a great catch! 🤩✈️👍🏼
Thanks for the kind comment Matt, hopefully more visits of the AN12 at Liverpool Airport in the future.
love the sound
Make’s a nice change from the usual sky traffic.
Beautiful looking and will probably last forever.
I don't know why but I've always loved the AN-12, would love to take a ride in one. Nice footage :)
Superb, as always.
Thank you Rob!
Bloody heroic. The only word, heroic.

Great catch. Love the description of the airport. Landings and take offs? Be a bit crowded if they couldn't take off again, lol 🤣 🇬🇧

Even watching this video my hearing got damaged...lol. The old Fokker turbo props with those RR Dart engines were even louder.
A tad noisy but the real deal nonetheless. Having grown up with the Viscounts and the odd VC10, what is aviation without the noise?
Smoke on, Go!
The AN 12 gives me Hercules vibes...❤️👍

What a great paint job.
I see (we'll hear first) it fly over my house sometimes
Looks like it has 4 steam engines when it goes down the runway. It even has the rear gun position. Great piece of history.
I cant wait to see if UR-CNT is still flying...... Sometimes you dont see these fly over but you hear them and its a great sound.
Hi, UR-CNT (Ukraine Air Alliance) is still flying according FR24.
Obviously Ukraine has bigger issues than the registrations of its aircraft.
THX!
antonov ❤
If any modern airline, like United or American or etc, had this plane in their fleet, I'd for sure book a flight on it.
Noisy beasty rattles my roof😁
This flew above my house the other night and I genuinely thought a war was going on 😂
It passed over my house yesterday, From Turkey en route to Dublin airport.
Air quality nose-dives when the pilot opens the throttle!

Hi What were they using for fuel ? Probably lard for the chip shop. But what a neat aircraft.
Great video
Thanks!
nice
That thing is as dirty as a F4 Phantom. cough cough. great capture
Is the tail high to avoid the prop wash or smth?
It looks like the mixture is a bit rich. Would a carburettor adjustment remedy the smoke production?
All Russian engines, jet or turbo prop smoked like that. If you've ever seen an IL-86 take off, you'd think the thing was on fire.
Turboprops don't use carburettors.
@@narabdela Oh, okay. Do you think it might be worn piston rings? Only joking!
Great catch managed to catch one of these landing at Birmingham filmed for my channel 👍
Saw this take off in Dublin recently
If you can't tell by the noise, you can tell by the smoke trail what it is. I hope they keep them running.
Saw the same one here in Belgium 2 days ago.

What an aircraft! 5 man crew I think? Are these cargo flights or passenger carrying?
Amazing aircraft, very lucky to still see them in action. Yes a 5 man crew, and the an-12 was operating cargo.
For such an old lady, she's taxiying quite spritely.
