  • Woodturning a sycamore bowl. This is the finished turned piece. It was turned green and now I’m putting it back on the lathe to smooth it out and clean up the outside look.

Nice save Darren. Thought you were going to lose it when it flew off the lathe but you didn't let that happen. Thanks for sharing, Stuart

I really like this piece, very happy you turned it again. Waiting for you to turn that piece of Norfolk Island Pine you green turned about a year ago.

Thank you Mark. It had a lot of color hiding inside of that one. What a surprise it was.

Nice save, I have two sycamore pieces rough turned and drying. They are a vase form and plain and will be my first pieces in sycamore.

Thank you for your comment. I hope your Sycamore pieces work out for you. A nice wood to turn. The leaves are the problem. They choke and gage you when you are raking and chipping and using a blower on them. Thanks for watching my videos

Very nice. Love the grain. Too bad the wood doesn't stay red. Several woods I work with regularly fade from red to brown. I am happy you were able to re-turn this bowl successfully. I might have sanded this rather than re-turn, but then it wouldn't have looked nearly as nice.

Thank you Walt. I almost did exactly what you said. I got lucky it was thick enough and that I didn’t break it completely with that catch.
