This is what the show creators said about this scene.
“We were already talking about tendrils coming out and we were asking these philosophical questions, ‘Why are infected people violent? If the point is to spread the fungus, why do they need to be violent?’ We landed on that they don’t. They’re violent because we resist, but what if you don’t? What does it look like if you just stand perfectly still and let them do this to you? Then we landed on this nightmare fuel. It’s disturbing and it’s violative. I think it’s very primal in the way it invades your own body. To use an overused word, it’s triggering. It’s a remarkable combination of Neil’s direction, Anna Torv’s acting when there isn’t obviously anything there and our visual effects department doing this gorgeous work to make it all come together and feel real and terrible”

The music that plays in the scene where Tess' arm twitches really brings out the emotion of this scene. I could really feel the desperation of the situation :(

I’ve never seen a stalker with tendrills (if you don’t know, stalkers are the stage 2 from the game)

They changed how the fungus works in the show, so no more spores that infect them, and now when they bite you, fungus breaks off in your wound and that's how it infects you. That's what those tendrils are.

I never played the game but the show was SO good and stuck SO close to the source material that it actually made me a fan of both games and this series. It's almost shot for shot from the games in a lot of cases yet understandably they had to change a few things for the live action adaptation but good lord is it good. The game series graphics and gameplay both are insanely brilliant and impressive and the storyline is riveting in a sense that it doesn't drag, leave you hanging or create any apathy to who lives or dies because you care about everyone and their purpose. It plays with the morality in desperation and rides the line between virtue and survival unlike any other game or series I can think of (it's not even close to the walking dead in my opinion). I'm super excited about the second season. I highly recommend it and I'm picky when it comes to holding my interest.

It's overrated. The game was a classic and had zero stupid zombie kiss scenes. The show felt the need to add that in for shock value, even though it's really stupid and makes zero sense.
