Ya, you can’t stop recreational travel of a whole river just because you have a property where there’s a waterfall or some obstruction. We up here on the Magnetawan all know that and are happy to see canoe parties portage along our properties when they need to.
Im glad i decided to watch canoe tripping videos tonight. I recently listened to the 400th episode of Paddling Adventures Radio (my favorite podxast) where you spoke about this trip and the lumber barons, land rights and such. I enjoy your channel Kevin, cheers!
@@TheHappyCamper The UK said whatever mate! I have no experience with Canoes or the wilderness, modern English working class life I guess. not least the idea that you can do something! Anyway, the dream of me and my son (half Canadian boy no less) is too Canoe for 6 whole weeks, camping , going slow, getting bitten, making mistakes. arguing and getting out of the industrialised world for a while. We'll do it one day, there is two of us dreaming now, it can't be put into a draw with the other 'ideas' Brilliant man, great friends you have and a real pleasure to watch.
You ought to splice together the story of Princess Kevin into its own video, it's great viewing for the kids and such lol Thanks for another great video!

I wanna know if that will hold up in court, there are tones of water ways that people sign with no trespassing around me but they are noted as navigable
A fantastic trip. Wish I was there. I see you are surrounded, from time to time, by mosquitoes. How do you effectively deal with them? My last time in Ontario, June / July of 2013, I was so mosquito bitten that I had to stop taking my blood thinner medication, as even the smallest scratch would not stop bleeding.
It was early June, which is a bad time for mosquitoes. We brought bug repellent - Ben's DEET - long sleeves and pants as well. And that bug shelter I brought is amazing. I wouldn't go without it.
Curious...i am in Illinois, USA. We have a Mississippi river, didn't know you had a Mississippi as well.were they ever connected? Was it the same explorer that named them?be interested in knowing. Love both you guys!
I asked the First-Nations elder about this. The Algonquins called it Pictured Waters due to the Native paintings on Mazinaw Lake. They believe it was called Mississippi by early Europeans because it was the main river flwoing into the mighty Ottawa River.
I had the same question and in searching about it, its possible that the Algonquin and Ojibway may have called it image river "Mazinaa-ziibi" and over the years it got changed into its current name, much like the American River whos name comes from "Misi Ziibi" meaning great river.
@@TheHappyCamper I am amazed that these people were able to claim the river bank like that. I did a documentary on an abandoned railway that used to run between Ottawa and Cornwall and it was the same. some sections open to the public and others had been retaken by property owners with no trespassing signs.
An hour and a half of Andy! Yes please! Great to see you as well Kevin!
I agree. That man is hilarious.

At 22:51 when that strip of bacon flopped, the kids laughed and laughed!
Love it. Ontario is out of this world. But then again, so is Princess Kevin.
LOL

You guys are a hoot!
We have some serious fun on trips I gotta say. LOL
Sheesh, you gotta get this route in your next book. It took Dr. Shoalts like three months to find a falcon.
I wish I paddled it before I did the rewrite for Top 70 Canoe Routes book.

Is it just me or does Andy remind you of Red Skelteton ?
Totally.
He definitely does.
I was thinking the same.
Did you replace the seats?
No. But I put in knee pads
What is that frame at 39:21?
I have camped at Mazina lake (Bon Echo) I have also canoed the Mississippi from highway 7 going south to Pakenham and the famous bridge.
That bridge is awesome.
Stealth camping?
You could - but we didn't. I was filming and writing about it, so I didn't want to promote trespassing.
