I like when you introduce the hikes with a map. Summer of 1967 I worked trails for Hebgen Lake District. One assignment we explored the area near Higard Wilderness trying to locate and mark an abandoned F. S. Trail. We found old blaze marks but that about all. Had a great time riding horseback in such beautiful country. One day ran short of water for the horses. Luckily found a stream in a hallow where we set up camp. A big grizzly came into camp at dusk. The horses were hobbled but near by. We immediately mounted the horses for protection and out waited the bear. My partner Kelly, said that a grizzly would never attack if you were horseback. I was scared all night that the bear would return. We slept out in open - no tent. When we got back to town learned that a grizzly had been frequenting ranches up the Taylor Fork and had been shot at several times. Could have been the same bear. About 5 min in the video are the snow/capped peaks part of the Hilgard?
I love watching your videos just before bedtime. It's like a nice warm glass of milk, relaxing. The mountain laurel are in full bloom here in Mass. a sunrise walk is in the offing tomorrow.
Moved like a wolf. Wouldn’t doubt it. I was up in there 2 wks ago and saw a ton of wolf sign and a fresh moose calf kill not far below the lake. Thankfully the ravens tipped me off. No grizzlies for me unfortunately, but a gorgeous early am to hike.
Looked a little big for a coyote. We've had them on trail cam in our driveway. They may be bigger down where you are though. Colouring was the same as the coyote we've seen. Such a relaxing video. Thanks Stan!!
Stan, Another great video....I'm envious that you get to hike that area so often. I've been a few times and I will back in the northside of Yellowstone July 15 - 17 (approx) on my way to Alaska again this year. I'm always open to a nature hike, especially looking for a wolf to photograph. Not sure if you do guide services, if not I will be looking around slough creek area and anywhere else I can get a tip. Keep up the good work!
As you may have noticed, I hike mainly in open areas so that I can spot wildlife and grizzly bears at a safe distance. I see lots of grizzlies on slough creek but never seen a wolf there.
Here is a link to a video that is right there between Buffalo Plateau and slough creek. It is a very good off trail hike that you can do. I see wolves often in this area. ruclips.net/video/3iM_gt20Phk/видео.html
@@StanMills I keep my distance as well for the grizzlies I photographed in Yellowstone and Tetons, and carry a long lens! The only time I was close was with a guide viewing the Coastal Brown Bears in Katmai NP.
@@StanMills Fantastic video, I've watched that before. I will try to spend time in that area. We saw a few wolfs around slough creek a couple years ago, but way too far for any decent photos. That's fine though, I don't like to stress the animals or have them stress me.
It would be great if you would name the lakes that you come across Stan, that is, if you know them. 🤗 Very beautiful scenery my friend and as always, you do an awesome job filming and tracking these glorious animals! I would say that was a Coyote at the end of your video, I didn't see any Wolves. The Elk are supurb, absolutely supurb!! Thank you my friend for sharing this awesome video and for working so incredibly hard to bring us these magnificent videos! 🖒🤗🖒
Another great video Stan! Starting out early in morning is one of your secrets I think :). That was definitely a wolf -- with overall larger body size (bulkier than a coyote), wider head, dense coat, and a bit of a "trot" in its gait.
The Taylor-Hilgard area is beautiful. A friend and I just hiked up into Tumbledown/Koch Basin and summited Koch Peak last weekend. Surprisingly only saw a mountain goat up top and 2 bull elk in the woods.
@@StanMills I don't typically record my hikes in as much detail as you do. I usually stop for pictures or a quick video. I can try and post some clips though.
The close-up of the female elk's face and expression was glorious.Given the slow pace you take for safety reasons, I'm curious how long that ten mile hike took. Thank you for the beautiful video.
@@StanMills I saw one set of old tracks on oil well trail. Other than that, nothing. When you go on your early morning hikes, are you usually camping nearby or do you drive in from wherever you are based?
This is such a great video of your trek! 😊 The size if the bear prints 😮 Those elk are gorgeous, especially that bull with the velvet, just beautiful. I wanted to say that was a wolf, but looking at its face, it looks like it could be a coyote, but Im no expert by any means. The only time I have ever seen wolves was in Yellowstone. Edit: I didn't know you were referring to the sighting at the end of the video, I would say that one is a wolf. Do you ever get nervous being so far out alone knowing the grizzlies are out there, too?
Most people are thinking it was a wolf. Sometimes it is hard for me to determine when I only see them for a few seconds. And yes, some of those places in the trees with grizzly tracks do make me a little nervous sometimes.
@StanMills I felt like the first sighting was a coyote, but the one at the end did seem like a wolf. I really enjoy watching you hike up there, stay safe 😀
Stan- Another great video and thanks. Is there a well defined trail up to Marble Peak and then on Marble Lake? I’m having trouble finding that one on my map. Thanks for any info
If you ask me, I say the snow was a little above average. So far almost everyone thinks it was a wolf. I wasn’t sure when I saw it. Must have been a wolf.
You make wonderful videos & have some amazing animal encounters. I was wondering if bear bells (or other constant noise makers) actually work--do they scare the bears, etc. away or at least let them know you are coming & thus avoid you.
Gorgeous captures, Stan! Thank you! Does that happen to be a different camera? Or maybe some adjustment. Although your videos are always so good, seems like this one is more brilliant, maybe more 3D-like. Or, maybe it is the weather conditions. Hmmm. Thanks again, though!
Stumble onto one only a couple times in my life. Normally I am able to detect a fresh kill from a safe distance because there will be a lot of activity around it. You may like this video: ruclips.net/video/0ZFy9JO-t18/видео.html

Just watched this .

Yes I think the peaks are part of the Hillary’s. That is a great experience that you had!
I’m going with wolf. That looked like a great hike outside of the park!
What a beautiful hike. Thanks. Always educational

sun awakes early nice hike Stan 10 miles

No, not well defined all the way.
Lots of elk and bear tracks.
Do you get there from Taylor Fork Rd off 191 Stan ? Great video as usual. Thanks.
Yes
Really nice video, lots of wildlife. Looks like a wolf, seems too big to be a coyote and the nose/snout looks like a wolf (wider and shorter).
Looks like a wolf, any ideal how much snow this past winter in that area? ✌🏻👍🇺🇸

Gorgeous territory as always Stan!! Say, how are the ticks this year? Here in Indiana people are saying they are the worst they’ve been in a while.
They were bad in first part of May but now I have not had a tic on me for the last 4 weeks.

Wolf or Coyote ? It appeared to be to big for a Coyote unless it was a well fed one.
Stan, what is the name of the lake at timestamp 10:53?
Coyote early, then wolf at the end
Wolf
