    Spoken like a true Nigerian 'it will SCATTER' LOL. You do a fantastic job Flo. I follow most of your recipes and have no issues with them. I tried the Oha soup first time and it was perfect. I use your meatpie recipe and its amazing. I tried the sausage roll but i found it quite salty, so i have to reduce it when next i try it again. You do such a perfect job, i dont know if you realize it dear.... God bless

    omg!
    These round puffy things looks just like the dough snack my friend brings back when she goes home to Okinawa now & then (home made). They taste similar to fried doughnuts, less sweet and harder consistency, deep fried and round like these! I guess they call them "tempura" over there (which is funny, Japanese "tempura" is lightly battered shrimp & veggies, not a dough snack)
    Must try this snack recipe, see if it tastes like Okinawan "tempura" as well.. :D

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  8 лет назад +5

      Add more yeast and leave to rise two times. That is, after rising the first time, "knead" it and cover to rise a second time. But be careful, if it contains too much yeast, the taste and smell of the yeast will ruin the taste of puff puff and can make you feel sick.

    is there any other stuff that can substitute the yeast?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  9 лет назад

      +molly olimini there's no perfect substitute for yeast. Is it that you do not eat yeast or you can't buy it? If it is because you can't buy yeast, use beer because it contains yeast. ;) The beer taste will evaporate when you fry it.

    could I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil? will it make a difference?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  9 лет назад +2

      +Lala2458 No, if you fry with olive oil, you will not get the classic taste. Moreover, frying takes the oil to very high temperatures and it is not advisable to fry with olive oil because it has a low smoke point.

    does it matter if you use self raising flour? Which one is best?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  8 лет назад

      +Toyin Taiwo for this recipe, it is best to use all purpose flour. If you must use self raising flour, make sure it has Pizza Flour written on the pack. And when you use pizza flour, do not add yeast because pizza flour already contains yeast. In fact it contains too much yeast that when I use it, I dilute it with all purpose flour. So it is not as straight forward as using all purpose flour.

      @toyintaiwo4519 8 лет назад

      +All Nigerian Recipes
      thank you for your reply. it was my first time making it. made a couple of errors though. I added hot water instead of warm and I think I added too much. I let the battery rest for like an hour for the yeast to activate. then I added more flour to make it thicker like, fried it. but the skin became full of oil and the filling literally "puffed away".
      on a positive note the shape came out well

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад

      mmh ... ella nonso the only thing I can think of is that you did not use yeast. Once you use yeast, especially one that is still active, it will come out spongy.

    • @ellanonso2953
      @ellanonso2953 10 лет назад

      I have always used yeast, an active one at that, because I usually see bubbles in the mixture.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад

      ella nonso mmh, that's strange. What type of flour do you use? Plain flour ie all purpose flour? I ask because some self raising flour contain baking powder.

    • @ellanonso2953
      @ellanonso2953 10 лет назад

      Yes, plain flour

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад +1

      ella nonso everything checks out dear. Puff Puff contains so few ingredients and it is usually the yeast or flour. If it's neither of those 2 then try adding a little bit more water next time. Still, from my experience, even if the mix is thick, the only thing that would happen is that the inside of the Puff Puff will be too dense and may not be well done by the time the outside starts burning but it will still be soft. Try more water and see if it improves, OK? Pls let me know how it goes.

  • @cha53z
    @cha53z 10 лет назад

    I have a problem.. I follow all the directions but it's a hit or miss! Now my question is, does the bowl used in making the puff puff matter? Because the bowls I use aren't shaped in a V like the one in the video and my puff puff doesn't rise like I expect it to. It's so frustrating! Because I don't find out till the 45mins mark or an hour. There's nothing to do once the foil is uncovered and I can't add more yeast either. Ughh! I'm not happy, cos my mum is supposed to take to a wake keeping.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  8 лет назад

      +cha53z ahhhh, for some reason, I missed this question. I just saw this now while replying another comment. :(
      No, the bowl does not matter. It is the yeast that makes the batter rise so make sure that the yeast you are using is still active.

    My first attempt of making puff puff and the mixture showes quite a few bubbles when I fried it the puff puff was soaked in oil...please tell me how I could have improved the mixture at that point?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад +1

      +Esther Rowland the mix should have some bubbles, that shows the yeast you used is active which is a good thing. If it was soaked in oil, it means you fried it at low heat. The oil should be very hot when you add the mix to the oil. Later, you may reduce the heat a bit if you think the puffs are burning but generally it should be fried on high heat. But please note that Puff Puff is an oily snack so if you got only a smear on your fingers when you touch the finished product then that's normal. If you want something similar but less oily, try Nigerian Buns >> ruclips.net/video/jjE7QADY9G4/видео.html

    What makes puff puff stretchy? mine rarely comes out stretchy

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад +2

      Yeast. And you need to get the consistency right. If the batter is too thick, the puff puff will not be stretchy.

    I don't like nutmeg, , can I just do it without nutmeg

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  7 лет назад

      Yes, you can but you need to add cinnamon as alternative. You need to add either nutmeg or cinnamon else it will be just sugar and flour which does not have a great taste.

    Aunty Flo, kudos on job well done.
    Please my puff puff won't turn. It only fries on one side and refuses to turn.I have tried this thrice now but still have the same challenge. What could be the problem?

    • @ladyd3217
      @ladyd3217 5 лет назад +2

      Put enough balls in the oil so they are jammed. That way, when u flip it, the neighbouring puffpuff balls prevent it from flipping back.

    Hi what's a wire mesh?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 лет назад

      poshmoi1 you see that sieve we put the puff puffs into after frying? That's a wire mesh from a deep fryer. If your deep fryer has that (most of them do), do not use it for frying Puff Puff.

    hi thank you for this video, i have a question, i made puff puff but they came out oily in the middle and not fully cooked but the outside was golden brown,what mistake do you think i made. thanks in advance

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  8 лет назад +1

      The heat was too much. Next time, try turning down the heat a bit so the inside will be cooked by the time the outside starts to brown. The heat should not be too low else the puff puff will soak up lots of oil.
