Very good to see you covering this iconic PS2 game! I bought the game & headset, which I still have today. In fact "Manhunt" utilized that same headset to taunt the enemies, which was a very fun gimmick as you call them out verbally, then watch them suddenly look for you, good times on both games!
I was thinking the same thing as I watched this, I still have that headset in a drawer lol. And yes you're right, Manhunt utilized it to great effect. Unfortunately not too many other games did. That screw-on PS2 network adapter didn't get a lot of use either, at least for me
@plain_simple_garak Thanks for you reply, you are correct, aside from those two great PS2 games utilizing the headset, I can't think of a 3rd game using it. It was very fun in "Manhunt", I would laugh every time I would tell the creeps, "Hey fucko, over here!"

I still remember my parents taking me to Toys R Us for me to pick out a game for getting straight A's on my report card and at ToysRus you use to flip through this plastic sleeve that had the game cover art and back print to read it and I thought this one was cool so you grab the little tag and you had to bring it to the electronics register and they went to grab the game from the back and all I remember was this massive size box and I had no idea but it was actually the headset. It was a cheap little headset that went over 1 ear and plugged into the USB slot of the PS2, but the cool thing was not only could you say any of the voice commands as you saw them on the screen (And they worked mighty good for the most part) you could also hear your fireteams responses back into the headset as well so all the translation and stuff was done in that earpiece. Man I had so much fun with this game, I think just being a young kid and for the first time being able to play a game where you can control your team with your voice was s cool. I really wish Sony would of kept up with this game, This and Killzone are the 2 games I really hope Sony will bring back from the dead (Even though I know they need new studios)

I remember being able to control your team through the headset for this game. At the time that was groundbreaking :D this is also the first tactical shooter that i played. Little 12 year old me couldn't stop playing.

Socom hold a some of my best gamming memories of all time. I played online almost exclusively. This SC1 was my first long term online game that I played. Within the first few days of playing online I tried out for a clan called "Socom Elite" on the map Blood Lake. I apparently "did well" though I know I had to be shit at the game still. lol I stayed with that clan through every version of the game up to SC4. I forget the clan leaders screen name but his real name was John and he had a buddy that lived down the street from him who was also in the clan. I think they were from TN. I eventually lost touch with them after quitting SC4 (never really liked that one SC2 was peak for me). I think we played in US East 2 or 4. I wish I could talk to those guys again. Lots of good memories. I remember playing in Glitch only servers. I was hosted an "endless respawn" on Vigilance which required the host to eject their disc then get voted out by everyone. You would get kicked from the game but because it couldn't load the menu you would be in limbo where you couldn't spawn but you could still listen to voice chat. I left the room running for hours while I was going out of town. When I came back the room was still up but with only a few people. I put on the headset and heard one of my friends saying "Hey if you can hear me, we are done playing so you can end it." I restart the PS and logged back in. I setup another room and they came back in like "Did you hear us?!?!" lol The timing was prefect. There was another game on steam called "H-Hour: World's Elite" on steam that was to be the "spiritual successor to the early SOCOM games" but it never really took off. A remake would be great but tbh I would not buy a console to play. PC is the only thing I play now days.

Notably, our expertise contributed to the creation of the Modern Warfare 1 official strategy guide. This partnership allowed clan members to work closely with Infinity Ward's team. Considering Sony's concerns about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision and potential dependence on Call of Duty, reviving Socom as an exclusive title could provide a compelling alternative. However, it remains to be seen whether the current gaming landscape is receptive to a tactical shooter like Socom given the popularity of Battle Royale shooters and the arcade style military themed video games. Where players are often rewarded for individual achievements within game more than team-based tactics. Which Socom Navy Seals ganes are synonymous for during its time in the spotlight.

Socom 1 was great but Socom 2 had a more polished single player. Socom 1 single player annoyed me because they had late spawning enemies who would just appear out of thin air and start shooting you in the back. Socom online though was where it was really at with Socom 1 and Socom 2 being just as epic.
@Mark-sd4hv I mainly got into Socom for online play but sometimes the site would go down for maintenance in the morning for like half hour and I started playing the campaign to kill the time till the server came up and the campaign started to grow on me. I was wondering how do you have such good video quality with this game? Do you use a Retrotink 4K and what TV or monitor? This is one of the few PS2 games that for me upscale with strange diagonal double pixels and massive dithering. You don’t seem to have this going on. Love your videos and thank you
Oh my goodness. One of my favorites. I got to play this early at a comic convention that also had a pre release demo for The Thing and Tom Savini was there. Fantastic day.
This was the GWOT jam. The weapons/combinations/ authenticity was up to par as far as I was concerned. Played them all and have great memories of these.
Why did voice commands fall out of favor in solo gaming? I clearly remember controlling my units in SOCOM and Tom Clancy's Endwar. Gamers have far more access to good microphones and voice recognition is so much better... why is this not implemented in more games? I can keep my hands busy while I bark orders, letting gameplay stay smooth and not relying a badly programmed AI to make decisions.
I made so many friends that I'm still friends with on these games. I played 1-3 a stupid amount and can probably generally draw the paths of most maps And hot take: CONFRONTATION HAD SOME GOOD AND FUN ASPECTS. Terrible launch, lack of maps, and some massive campfests like Quarantine and Urban Wasteland really damaged its reputation forever

I'd love if Sony would put SOCOM on PS+, even if it were only the campaigns from 1, 2 and 3. They should seriously consider a remake of these games instead of more PS4 game remakes. The PS4 games still look good and play great on their own.
I grew up playing these with on PS2 my dad also enjoyed them. Needless to say yeah the multiplayer was memorable but more for 2 and 3s. 3 I see a lot of people seem to give a little less credit for its multiplayer for being a battlefield clone but back then it was freaking awesome to play it on PS2 at the time.
Same. When socom 4 came out and bombed I sold my PS3 and haven't been with Sony since. If another Socom title was announced I would instantly return after all these years and purchase a PS5
I was in the military ( Army ) at the time and as I went through my career I had the opportunity to meet Chief Petty Officer Rob Roy ( the black guy on the cover ) we had a nice conversation about the game.
Girl... You're so cute I'd hold the mic for you so you can talk that trash to the enemy team.... 😋 You still play similar games? G^ and let's play Ghost Recon Wildlands.. It has good co-op very similar to Socom, lots of good and challenging options to sneak around in jungles, deserts and mountains.
I don't know about a remake, but I'd buy remasters for the Socom games. We haven't had a new one since the PS3. Rather see Socom, Killzone, Resistance, or Syphon Filter return than stuff like Concord or that other live service game I can't remember its name.
My first online game. Got the PS2 adapter just to play this online. I even bought a modded controller to change how the l3 and r3 worked. I always switched between semi and automatic fire accidentally when running and gunning. Great memories 🙂🙂
Aaaah..., Socom US Navy Seals 🙏🏾. Oooh man i remember buying the very first one. ☝🏾With an headset. And boy Oh boy what a game. The first online multiplayer tactical shooter. The whole concept of team-base playing and the importance of playing together was never be so satisfying after winning a match on any other game nor gaming console than this one. The coolest thing was that even if you died, the game wasn't over. In fact, you and your team could still win this. And than came SOCOM 2 . That one was even better. Better graphics, more maps. Dude, i played SOCOM 2 for hours straight. Highly addictive too. Socom 2...,Greatest online tactical shooter ever in my humble opinion. Sony should make that one and bring it back. Can you imagine SOCOM 2 in 4k 🤯? With current graphics?
Sony sleeps on Socom and Killzone. If they want to correct the concord loss, this is the way.
After Shadow falls, it's hard for the Killzone series to get back on it's feet, it had a good run, though.

They really need to remake this game, both my son and I would play for hours.
They really dont, theyll mess it up, play dis one, i learned over years to not ask for remasters or remakes or reboots no mo
nah, just a rerelease with modern controls and ui will suffice.
If Sony would re-release the game, it would most likely be part of the PS Classics.

They should seriously consider a remake of these games instead of more PS4 game remakes. The PS4 games still look good and play great on their own.
You structure the review like a student essay repeating base points at times; but otherwise really good concise review
These were awesome
Over here like, how did I miss a new Socom game lol I didn't
This game was amazing, it took me away from counter-strike.
Man, this was my first online shooter as a kid. Never had a PC. It blew my mind communicating with real people. Oh, the wonders of childhood! lol!
Socom 2 was the best pvp game ever made.
Would you be kind enough to let me know was your footage captured on an emulator or original hardware?
Let’s not forget the awesome psp version!
Sony's great answer for the emerging tactical shooter market.
I would buy a PlayStation for a new SOCOM game. Period. Screwit I'd buy 3
Same. When socom 4 came out and bombed I sold my PS3 and haven't been with Sony since. If another Socom title was announced I would instantly return after all these years and purchase a PS5
This game single handedly influenced my best friend to join the Navy lmao. He's still in almost 9 years later. 😂😂
I was in the military ( Army ) at the time and as I went through my career I had the opportunity to meet Chief Petty Officer Rob Roy ( the black guy on the cover ) we had a nice conversation about the game.
This brings me back, loved this game
The amount of hours i dumped into the Socom games❤
I miss SOCOM 2 and MAG. MAG was underappreciated and way ahead of it's time. Motion controller integration ruined online play unfortunately
Woah, memory flood.
My clan was . I was Mako. Damn this brings back memories
I remember that name + clan.... I friggen HATE Sony for not bringing SOCOM BACK, REMAKE IT!!!! 😡
I play this game all the time. On my PS2 and my PS3. I love how stealthy it is and the amount depth the game offers.
Was that footage from the Takedown expansion for R6 Rouge Spear ?
I don't know about a remake, but I'd buy remasters for the Socom games. We haven't had a new one since the PS3.
Rather see Socom, Killzone, Resistance, or Syphon Filter return than stuff like Concord or that other live service game I can't remember its name.
I remember playing this as a toddler and honestly it taught me a lot
My first online game. Got the PS2 adapter just to play this online. I even bought a modded controller to change how the l3 and r3 worked. I always switched between semi and automatic fire accidentally when running and gunning. Great memories 🙂🙂
I remember thinking how realistic it looked lol
Greatest game ever and 2
God do i miss these games. socom 1, 2 and 3 were the shit. 4 was just shit. never played multiplayer/online bs tho. just single. loved em so much.
