An amazing visit to Bempton Cliffs photographing Sea Birds

- In this video I visit RSPB Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire. This was a location I have wanted to visit for a long time and it didn't disappoint. I am so proud of how this video has turned out because I think it really conveys how magical it was to be surrounding by so much wildlife. I am also really pleased with the images I got and towards the end of the visit I also saw a peregrin and some puffins.

I’m quite new to photography so forgive my question… you were struggling to get your shutter speed up but i notice you were at F/11 most of the time, why not open the aperture more
This definitely would have worked, but I am working out the most reliable AF settings on the z6ii so I wanted more DOF as a backup.
Hi Dan, I haven't watched this yet, but I was in a hide this week here in Sunny Jersey and a couple from UK came in, obviously we started chatting, and they told me all about Bempton Cliffs, how weird is that. I'll tell you what I think after I've watched the video :)

Now added as a subscriber. Great vlog Darrell, love Bempton myself. I just might have been one of the other 4 or 5 photographers up on the reserve on your day 1, I arrived at 04:30 for my day there & finished at 6:30pm! A long but very enjoyable day, always plenty to see up there. I saw the Peregrine too, but not perched - it just flashed past a couple of times. I did see the Barn Owl too, a surprise flyover at 2:30 in the afternoon. Thanks for sharing 🙏

Really enjoyed this video, Darrell. Lovely shots too. I'm visiting in a couple of weeks' time so keeping it all crossed there are still some puffins about and I get some good shots too!

Some great images, and amazing that you were using the Z 6ii after all the comments from other you tubers who said the focussing was not up to scratch when compared to other makes of camera.
I definitely prefer my D850. It is far more dependable. However, that wasn't an option. I did get a lot of shots where the focus missed and some that I put in the video were only good enough for RUclips and I wouldn't have printed them. Still got some that I am really pleased with.

It was the first and second of June (just over a week ago). I didn’t see any signs of chicks.

Great video Darrell, I’m not a bird or even a landscape photographer as a rule, more a Street Photographer than anything but do enjoy a bit of everything really. I’ve seen a number of videos about Bempton Cliffs now and next week I’ll be about 35 miles inland from there, on a camping break actually.
I was wonder if you think I’ll be able to capture any of the seabirds using a Fuji Xt3 ( APS- C ) with a 50-230mm? I don’t have any longer and can’t afford to buy one, plus even if I could I wouldn’t, I’m hoping to change systems, most likely next year now.
You will definitely get something at 230mm the birds are so close (with APS-C the crop fact will make the lens seem longer).
@@DarrellOakdenPhotography Yes, I knew that bit but as I’ve never been I didn’t know how far the cliffs were but after watching your video I’m hoping I’ll come away with something.

Greetings from the UK. Glad you like my photos. My card is nothing special - SanDisk Ultra Sd 128gb. I don't take extended burst shots so I never need any quicker write speeds.

I have only been once when I filmed the video and timed it to hit breeding season. I would guess that this would be the wrong time of year to see the numbers I saw.

Fabulous images ! I shall never get there myself, so it was great to watch your video. The puffins were a real bonus. Such sweet looking little birds!
I really enjoyed it . I booked three nights in Bridlington to make the most of it. I made a video at another RSPB reserve and did two landscape videos as well. Great to have a pure photography trip and I now have videos made and uploaded until the end of July.

Really pleased you had a good couple of days visit to Bempton Cliffs, I live 2 miles away and have been here over 30 years and love the views and Wildlife. You got some great shots of our beautiful Seabirds and Coastal scenery, maybe try Flamborough next time and you may get lucky with Grey Seals and we also have Dolphins. 👍😊🐦🐬
Keep an eye out in a few weeks there are a couple of videos waiting to go from Flamborough including seals and a great sunrise.
