Your mystery fish that the vulture was eating is a Longnose Lancetfish (Alepisaurus ferox). They live off the west coast, grow over 7 feet and live as deep as 6,000 feet.
Wow, enjoy being able to crawl along the sand like that! I've did it for miles at your age, but no longer. At age 71, the knees will not tolerate that stuff. I have to sit in a low beach chair now. Gear has improved more than a little, though.
I think you got to see a washed up Lancetfish! Very cool! Another excellent video as well, really looking forward to the day I can get to some shore birds
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your thought on it, I don't know ocean wildlife at all lol. Thanks for the compliment too, hope you get to as well :)
The video is really beautiful and I really like the view of this beach. Lots of shorebirds foraging in the morning. Thank you Jeremy for sharing this birding adventure.👍👍
Really great work. Thank you for sharing. Vultures are most fascinating for me. One day I will do a trio to the west coast to get a picture of the California Condor
Lol I'm a little late to the party, but it doesn't matter! I really enjoyed the video, photos, and awesome story telling! I love getting photos of the shore birds in my area along the Gulf of Mexico! I'm your next subscriber! I can't wait to see your next adventure!!!!👍👍👍
Haha glad to have you anyways Marvin! Thanks for the encouragement :) shorebirds are super fun! I bet you have some pretty cool looking one's along the gulf!
Do you get sand in your gimbal when shooting like this? I am thinking of picking up a skimmer but not sure if I should go with a cheap gimbal since it might get ruined by sand. If sand is not a big problem I’d rather go for a nicer gimbal like the Winberley or ProMedia Katana Jr. what is your experience?
Because of the Skimmer, it was keeping sand from getting on it. The skimmer is really well balanced and grounded so that it won’t fall over which Is awesome. So personally, i feel safe using it in these situations always
Although I've been out to MDOSP literally thousands of time, I enjoyed watching your vid. Nothing like crawling around in the sand to make you feel like you've been somewhere ;-) The natural preserve is a treasure and on some days, you can really feel the solitude and wildness. BTW, The rangers don't open up the day use area road until around 0800. Good travels.
That's awesome you're familiar with the place! I had never been there prior but as soon as I arrived I knew I was going to love that location. Like you said, it's gorgeous and feels like you're alone in nature, I only bumped into one person all 6 hours I was there. And yea I found that out upon arrival but didn't realize before haha. Good thing that other trail lead to it!
Your video was suggested in my RUclips feed, and I'm really glad it was! I normally take landscape and portraits but after watching your video, I think I'll be heading down to my local beach over the summer. Subscribed and Thanks!
Glad to have you Morgan! Hope you enjoy doing some wildlife photography, definitely my favorite but occasionally I love to do landscapes as well :) hope you continue to enjoy the channel!
@@JeremyNeipp Yes, you never know what to expect ! I was expecting to photograph Gannets, with 7ft wing spans and ended up with a small Wader ! Don't you just love it ! Amazing
This is great! For some reason i hate taking pictures of shorebirds haha, but im gonna try to get better at those shots, especially since basically all we have in the bay is shorebirds and waterfowl 😂
I've just come across your channel Jeremy but have subscribed with pleasure! I use a similar ground plate (I won't name it ) and they make a HUGE difference to low level photography.
Why the mask? It's not like it makes you invisible to birds :) Seems a little silly. Cool adventure. I can only imagine how satisfyingly easy it must be to be able to photograph birds without waiting for hours on end in a hide or under a camo net. Where I live it is virtually impossible. I guess these guys are pretty used to people walking along the beach or something.

That's super cool! Explains it's size, I was amazed. Thanks for sharing, I had no idea haha.
@@JeremyNeipp And that juvenile gull was a Glaucous-winged Gull
Nice. I built a skimmer pod from a frying pan for free and only cost me a spare bolt. Works great
beautiful video. thanks a million for sharing this beautiful day.
I really was a beautiful day! Glad it was impactful for you :)
Great storytelling and awesome video! Jesus is so good! I love when he drops some amazing things in your lap.

Never seen anyone make turkey vultures look so good 😎
Thanks Ken 😍 haha I felt the same, usually they are weird to photograph haha

Nice video, I made my ground pod from an old frying pan. Really works fine with my 300mm & 600mm prime lenses.
Thank you! ☺️🙌🏻 yea I love that thing
Congrats! That seemed like some great fun and was also fun to watch. :)
Thanks Martin! It was such a good experience, hopefully I’ll be back soon!

I'm in the UK and with the exception of the Turkey Vulture those birds are all on my local beach here.
Very nice . Mask is for camouflage , correct ?
In some scenarios yes! However, on this morning is was more for the sake of keeping me warm haha.
Hi Jeremy. Nice vídeo. In hour opinion wich better dslr long Lens (150/200 - 600) for widlife and sports photography ? Thanks. Neste regards
Could be a pacific barracuda that was washed up
So I’ve heard! Apparently a fisherman told me that’s what he thought it was. Thanks for sharing 🙌🏻
This is inspirational. How were you able to capture all the nice B-roll of yourself in a rush?
Glad it inspired you! ☺️ I have someone helping me film all my videos!
this is also my question 😂 glad you answered it. like its hard to film that way if you are alone.
Which camera and lens did you use in this video
Panasonic S1R and Sigma 150-600mm Sport. I have reviews of them both on my channel if you ever want to see what I think of them
Why do you zoom the lens as it’s a tripod leg ??
Nice work and video... but where are the tricks for shorebird photography??

Cause it keeps me warm lol, what’s silly about that? But this area definitely is easier than most I frequent that’s for sure
