My favorite all time player...he was a great talent and player who because of injuries and other circumstances couldn’t put it all together...it wasn’t anything he couldn’t do on the offensive side of the ball
I agree with this analysis 💯 Mash could score anywhere on the court like Carmelo but he didn't need to Iso you to death and he was a good passer. It is a shame he never reached his full potential.
A healthy Mashburn would kill it in the modern era. He played his peak years in the rugged Eastern Conference. Everybody was playing a watered down Detroit Bad Boy era defense. He had a great skill set for his size and today’s NBA game is tailor made for it. I know I’m biased as a UK fan. He’s my all time favorite Wildcat. His coming to Kentucky under Pitino changed the trajectory of the whole program. He is now a wildly successful business man.

I was thinking about doing it a Vlog-style video like my Nebraska in the '90s just kind of documenting my experience with UK basketball in the '90s, basically I'm not going to talk too much about Eddie Sutton because I didn't know anything about that as a kid, but get into Mash coming in, the '92 game vs. Duke, the '93 Final 4 where Mash was crossing over Webber and Howard, (and talk about Travis Ford in the movie 6th man), then get into their dominating years with pressure, stacked teams, their comeback against LSU, their loss to MSU and their losses to South Carolina in '97 (I then picked SC to win it all, that was very bad, hahaha). But UK was awesome under Pitino. Then Tubby Smith coming in ( I thought he was a good coach, especially on the defensive side, but I understand UK fans might not like him due to the high expectations.) The '98 comeback Cats and Jeff Sheppard redshirting because of the talent on the team. Talk about how Scott Padgett almost became the 1st player to play in 4 Final Fours (I think). And then talk about how I think Tubby starting his son at PG kind of hurt him after that Pitino core left. Sorry for writing so much but just wanted to give you a brief overview and if there is anything you think I should mention, please tell me and I would like to give you a shoutout.
I looked Jamal up because he turned out to be the goat for me in my bballgm simulation. I always liked him back in the day. Antoine Carr is another unsung guy that comes to mind right now. Always enjoyed his game but young Carr was explosive.

I was a Jamal Mashburn fan from Kentucky to the pros. He was a player that liked to go left but he was tough to stop even if you knew what was coming. He had a beautiful touch and jumper and his fadeaway or step back were tough to stop. I wouldn't call Mashburn a great player but he was damn good though. 💯

Mash was a bad dude unstoppable in the post and nah he really didn't get the props that he deserved just came in at the wrong era with Penny,C.Webb,J.Kidd,Grant Hill and injury played a big part in his career just like it did Penny and G.hill but he retired still averaging 20+ just let's you know what a beast he was.
Mashburn is STILL my all time favorite college or pro player . He should’ve been in at Least 3 All Star games instead of one . He was beat out by Sprewell in 2001 although he had better stats and was much better than Sprewell that year and in his second season he and Jim Jackson deserved to be in the All Star team. Has he not torn his acl in his 3rd season and ballooned to 260 lbs that year he may have been on Hall of Fame trajectory. Ask around though the NBA players he played with and Against will Tell you Mash was a Great Player Period !

The Unforgettables were important but I think Mashburn was the player that changed that program. I heard on an interview that one reason Mashburn went to Kentucky, was that Mashburn was thinking about his life after basketball and wanted to go into business. Mashburn said something that Pitino was the only coach that took that aspect about Mashburn seriously.
NCAA HOF player 3 yrs at Kentucky . At Mavs was auto bucket and had 3 threat w/ Kidd ,Jimmy Jackson but after management couldn't handle immaturity only Kidd was health to have great career .

Mitch Albom in a book ( I think his Fab Five book ) said that Mashburn grew up in the Bronx. The New York Gauchos website listed Mashburn's hometown as the Bronx and so did Big Blue . net. However, I did listen to the Knuckleheads podcast and there was a segment that talked about Mashburn growing up in Harlem. Good player but disappeared in the heat come playoff time. Surprisingly when he was with the hornets, he decides to absolutely kill the Heat in the playoffs. The only thing I can say is he was a little soft at times

In the East during the 'mid - late 90s, players' scoring averages, FG% and shot attempts went down as the pace was so sluggish back then in the East. Now I remember Mash being pretty good for the Hornets in the playoffs. But as I mentioned earlier, players had a tough time in the East going against the Bulls, Pacers, Knicks but wow, I knew Mash had a tough time in the playoffs with the Heat but after looking at the stats (as your comment prompted me go to check), Wow, Mash statistically really struggled to I point that I didn't realize. I was thinking about doing it a Vlog-style video like my Nebraska in the '90s just kind of documenting my experience with UK basketball in the '90s, basically I'm not going to talk too much about Eddie Sutton because I didn't know anything about that as a kid, but get into Mash coming in, the '92 game vs. Duke, the '93 Final 4 where Mash was crossing over Webber and Howard, (and talk about Travis Ford in the movie 6th man), then get into their dominating years with pressure, stacked teams, their comeback against LSU, their loss to MSU and their losses to South Carolina in '97 (I then picked SC to win it all, that was very bad, hahaha). But UK was awesome under Pitino. Then Tubby Smith coming in ( I thought he was a good coach, especially on the defensive side, but I understand UK fans might not like him due to the high expectations.) The '98 comeback Cats and Jeff Sheppard redshirting because of the talent on the team. Talk about how Scott Padgett almost became the 1st player to play in 4 Final Fours (I think). And then talk about how I think Tubby starting his son at PG kind of hurt him after that Pitino core left. Sorry for writing so much but just wanted to give you a brief overview and if there is anything you think I should mention, please tell me and I would like to give you a shoutout.

I was a Jamal Mashburn fan from Kentucky to the pros. He was a player that liked to go left but he was tough to stop even if you knew what was coming. He had a beautiful touch and jumper and his fadeaway or step back were tough to stop. I wouldn't call Mashburn a great player but he was damn good though. 💯

Mash was a bad dude unstoppable in the post and nah he really didn't get the props that he deserved just came in at the wrong era with Penny,C.Webb,J.Kidd,Grant Hill and injury played a big part in his career just like it did Penny and G.hill but he retired still averaging 20+ just let's you know what a beast he was.

Mashburn is STILL my all time favorite college or pro player . He should’ve been in at Least 3 All Star games instead of one . He was beat out by Sprewell in 2001 although he had better stats and was much better than Sprewell that year and in his second season he and Jim Jackson deserved to be in the All
Star team. Has he not torn his acl in his 3rd season and ballooned to 260 lbs that year he may have been on Hall of Fame trajectory. Ask around though the NBA players he played with and Against will

Wish you’d seen how beloved he was/is here in the Lexington KY area. They even had a parody song playing on the radio, Monster Mash in 1993.
is that parody song on RUclips? I wasn't able to find it. But I can imagine how beloved Mashburn is in Lexington. The first major recruit and the player that turned around Kentucky. The Unforgettables were important but I think Mashburn was the player that changed that program. I heard on an interview that one reason Mashburn went to Kentucky, was that Mashburn was thinking about his life after basketball and wanted to go into business. Mashburn said something that Pitino was the only coach that took that aspect about Mashburn seriously.

he was a more athletic, but in many ways extremely similar, to his mavs predecessor mark aguirre. feel for the game in the low post was aguirre-esque ... similar mechanics on turnaround post jumper too. my two all-time favorite players!!

Knee issues are perhaps the biggest enemy of any successful long-term NBA career.
There is a move that Mashburn did, he dribble the ball in between the legs, at the same time he turn around and take two step layup. Can i ask you to please post that move if you have it.

When he was at Arizona, I didn't think he would've had the career he had. He was a late bloomer at Arizona had a tremendous career in the NBA.
i thought he was, minus the injuries, pure talent was great. i thought of him, looking up Glen Rice. and this made me think about Allan Houston. two very talented players, shooters and scorers. those two alone would be considered all-time greats playing in today's game.

Mitch Albom in a book ( I think his Fab Five book ) said that Mashburn grew up in the Bronx. The New York Gauchos website listed Mashburn's hometown as the Bronx and so did Big Blue . net. However, I did listen to the Knuckleheads podcast and there was a segment that talked about Mashburn growing up in Harlem. Good player but disappeared in the heat come playoff time. Surprisingly when he was with the hornets, he decides to absolutely kill the Heat in the playoffs. The only thing I can say is he was a little soft at times
Sorry for the late reply but I want to say thank you for the comment. In the East during the 'mid - late 90s, players' scoring averages, FG% and shot attempts went down as the pace was so sluggish back then in the East. Now I remember Mash being pretty good for the Hornets in the playoffs. But as I mentioned earlier, players had a tough time in the East going against the Bulls, Pacers, Knicks but wow, I knew Mash had a tough time in the playoffs with the Heat but after looking at the stats (as your comment prompted me go to check), Wow, Mash statistically really struggled to I point that I didn't realize.
