  • What is myopia?
Myopia is more commonly known as short-sightedness.
In a nutshell, it's when things in the distance look blurry, and it's on the increase.
With more and more children becoming short sighted at a young age.
Myopia happens when the eyeball grows a bit too much, stretching so that the distance from front to back is longer than it should be.
It's really common, but because light gets focused in front of the retina in the eye, the result is blurred vision.
And as you become more short-sighted, the risk of developing eye health
problems in the future can go up too.
Is there any treatment? Yes, there is.
You may now be able to slow down how quickly your child's prescription changes by using special lenses for glasses or contact lenses for children.
Rather than just correcting the vision, there is now technology that is designed to help correct vision and reduce the signal that tells the eyeball
to stretch a bit too much.
This may slow the progression of short-sightedness by at least half, as well as helping keep your children's eyes healthy.
What else can I do about it?
Making some simple lifestyle changes could help slow down the progression of short-sightedness too.
Getting your children outside more can help, and it also means they're spending less time in front of screens, which helps because screen work
    means short distance focusing.
Keeping objects at a distance can help too. That means literally holding the phone a bit further away, sitting a bit further back from the laptop, or moving the sofa further away from the TV.
How do I know if my child is short-sighted or struggling with their vision Well, they might just tell you they're struggling to see clearly. But if not, here are some frequently asked myopia questions:
    - Is your child squinting a lot?
    - Is your child struggling to see objects far away?
    - Is your child rubbing their eyes a lot?
    - Is your child regularly getting headaches?
    - Is your child saying they're tired more often than you'd expect?
    - And, of course, is there a family history of short-sightedness?
We're here to help keep your child's eyes as healthy as possible for the future. And if needed, try to slow down the progression of short-sightedness.
