My confusion with choosing a career has finally led me here and I can say this sounds interesting 🧐
What grade are you in?
Same
Same optometry is very interesting to me
same!!
Same!
I’m a current optometric technician, and I love everything in this video. Everything is straight to the point, and actually details why we look at what we look at with the eye. I’m looking at becoming an optometrist, and I highly anticipate my future endeavors.
this is a very well done video, I'm really interested in becoming an optometrist and this video helped me explore deeper into it!
My eyes were self-conscious while watching this great video.
I’m thinking of going into optometry and this was sooo cool and interesting! Thank you!
The most important thing is when you LOVE what you do , particularly you will never get enough of
Future job here I come!

hows that going now?
Thank you for this!!! It really made my mind up for me for the most part… I have always had eye troubles growing up, and I have always been fascinated to know what is going on with someone’s eyes in certain circumstances. So thank you for the educational video!
This video is so helpful im a huge fan on tiktok and eye care has caught my attention so much as a senior in highschool sadly this virus has gotten me debating what else i can do for others. As medicine has been ny career path nursing and eye care are my big choices and watching videos like these are to helpful.
I feel obligated to share my experiences. Optometry was good to me and my family during my working years; however, those days are gone. I fear that idealistic graduates are walking out of schools ill-prepared for the reality of the employment/private practices. I have a son who is a commercial airline pilot. He earns, in salary/benefits/ about twice what an optometrist makes. He had to work his way from small commuter airlines but at least he was not going to school and incurring mounting debt. Never discount the value of " employee benefit packages"... typically optometrist are not offered benefit packages... buying single person health care is very costly. I regret sounding like Negative Nancy, but I think perspective students must realize they are being fed a picture of a world that does not exist outside of academia.
Is this specifically to the US or Canada? I am Canadian and wondering about a career in optometry. What do you think about the job prospects/ job growth in this field? I know that careers like pharmacy are speculated to be in jeopardy with AI
@@Sophiesdays Greeting Sophie: This is a very important decision that will affect your quality of life for decades to come. Please talk to as many optometrists as you can. Don't just talk to those in academia or recent graduates. I have only experience with optometry in USA. I knew several M.D.s from Canada and Ireland; they described misery under socialist medicine. Be thorough in your investigation. This is a critical point in life. Best wishes for you.
Your comment is 100% true. I have seen it. I have no idea what the O.D.'s I worked with are doing for a living now. Investigate this field first.
I have an in-person shadow appointment tomorrow and I'm even more excited to watch these opticians work in action! Loved the video, you made this very very fun and I'm I couldn't be happier to be joining this career field.
how did it go? were you shadowing optometrist, opticians, or both?
I'm a optometrist Technician and i love you video!
Good job Buddy. My son really like it, he is looking into this career path. Thanks a lot for sharing. 🙋🏻♂️🇨🇦
I really liked the video! Awesome job explaining some of the aspects of optometry
Wow, I was searching info about optometry and your video was so INTERESTING that I didnt feel those 12 mins
interesting to see the difference between optometrist from the US and from my country. You seem to do more things that eye doctors do here.
Thanks so much this gave me more detailed info than my work experience I did on optometry.
This was very detailed. Keep it up doctor!! 👨⚕️
Thank you doc ! This was very informative and interesting ! Looking into Optometry but I didn’t know it’s 8 years I thought only 4 ?!?!
I believe you get a 4-year Bachelor’s degree then go to Optometry school for 4 years. So 4+4 years.
Only if you're in the US or Canada. Most other countries and universities don't require 4 years Bachelor's degree
Thanks for the great video!! It was so enlightening, educational and inspiring!
Ugh, I want to be an optometrist so bad but I feel like o-chem and physics in college are gonna kill my GPA 😢
Currently taking O chem. It’s not too bad. It’s just lots of memorization and lots of practice problems if you want to get an A. As for physics, go to class, study daily, do practice problems, get a tutor, and find a study group. You should do good if you take the steps needed.
@@calebp8637 taking physics 1 next semester, along with Chem 2 and Calculus 🤞🏼😬
@@flanagamer good luck
@@calebp8637 is it possible to take calculus instead of physics and take chem, biology etc... To become one?
@@remielabraham5803 schools will require you to take classes in physics, chem (including ochem), biology, as well as calculus. Calculus does not replace physics. They are very different classes
why am I suddenly so aware of how my eyes feel rn
Any tips about going through school and becoming a optometrist?
I'm very confused to chose b/n optiometry and Ansteshia plsssss...help me
GREAT VIDEO! Im thinking of going into optometry myself but sometimes get grossed out by certain things (i.e. if there was a large item stuck in the eye, completely bloodshot eyes, eye falling out of the socket, etc). What would be your advice for someone like me?? (i.e. you will get used to it over time, maybe optometry is not for you, you barely ever see scenarios like that, etc) ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!
I have read this exact same comment in others vids hopefully someone answers you lol
Plus I think you can learn getting used to it
You might want to consider being an optician, then.
I’ve been in the field for about 5 years now as a tech starting out then optician to manager!
Seeing that is sooooo rare! I have personally never seen that! But the craziest thing I’ve seen is someone’s eye permanently damaged from sleeping in contacts & a young girl had a tumor & found out at the old doctors office I worked at!
I’ve failed some pre requisite courses like chemistry of solutions, maybe cal II coming up… I was just swamped with classes though
I learn more from this video than optometry school
Would you get practice with the eye drill on dummies? And What is the minimum grade for science?
Thx si much man, this video si Věry helpfull for my future
Is it true that the alger brush can roll up the epithelial layer of the conjunctiva ? and do you use it only on the cornea for the metallic infiltrates ?
Do you use a lot of physics on a daily basis? (I sure hope not)
I think they use math
You’re so helpful and informative!!
OK so today My eye started itching and it feels if something is wrong but don't know what is pritty red and hurts a lot it is if there is something sharp stuck in there..
Go to a nearby hospital so that they can determine what's wrong with you and give you the right treatment
@@sebastianfeuerstein9306 Thank you
@@lamesnippe2075 you're welcome
do you have to give medication to people that have red eye or do you just have to wait
It looks like a lot of people did not know that even the wrong eye drops given for the wrong eye condition even pink eye can lead to blindness which may not be the optometrist fault as they are not only a doctor of eyeglasses because they do not perform eye surgeries like opthalmologist since people are so specific, most should at least know the theories of angles of reflection and refraction according to Sir Isaac Newton in middle and high school for those who did not even graduate high school and assume equally intelligent with at least some eye doctors!
I would love to be an optometrist! Too bad I didn't think of it when I was younger!
Do it! You’ve got this.. just do it!!!
Exactly how I'm feeling, I'm a healthcare professional but 40 years old, feel a strong interest in this profession but I've already went through 6 years of school and I'm old lol
i really want to work as a optometrist, im a Medical Tecnhologist in Ophtalmology & Optometry, is a carrer from Chile and some others countrys, we do the same, my dream is to work in Canada in a few years
Great!!! Make more videos on optometry!!!!!
My thoughts exactly! He does a great job!
My doctor dinose me with glaucoma in the eyes. I have to use eye drops everyday.
Is the patient numbed before the drill is used?
how much do optometrist make in WA? Do they make more than software engineers in seattle area?
I think they make around 100k or more
A large HMO in WA pays optometrists 168K max after being with the company for 5+ years
Yea that’s what the back of my eyes look like. Thanks mom and dad lol! Informative video though Doc! Thanks.
Please : can do these explain whith writng beside talking ,we can't understand all speach ,so he say very quicly and the accent not for us .
Improve vision with a minus lens.
Is it possible to pull an eye muscle? I was putting in eye drops moved my eye around maybe to hard? and since then a few days it hurts to move my eye around too much
You said that you need 4 years of college and 4 years of optometry school to become optometrist. So 8 years in total. But my University is offering bachelor studies of Optometry for 4 years, that I can join straight after high school and I could get an optometrist license. So i guess it would be enough 4 years of studying for me? Or am I missing something?
That’s probably some sort of vision science undergrad degree that touches on relative topics and gets you better prepared for optometry school. You would still need 8 years (unless you can fast track undergrad)
I have no interest in becoming an optometrists however I never understood why there is such a huge disparity in price between my local independent optometrist and retail. This is probably it. Retail I’m in and out of the chair in 10 minutes, maybe less. There is no real exam. Thanks
Good tips
I’ll be honest, I clicked for the muscles 😍😨

Most cush job ever lol
That’s the point lol 😂 who wants a stressful job
I am an Optometrist. On the contrary of your view towards people not taking good care of their eyes, I love hearing my recurring clients complains of their eyes often because more money can be made. In fact, I would intentionally prescript my clients with slight deviations which is enough for them to come back to make another pair of glasses within 2 - 3 months. I do this at least 3 times yearly for every client. Additionally, I would always find fault in them for not taking good care of their eyes while encouraging them to upgrade their lens quality (honestly, it is redundant and expensive), giving them a perceived assurance of their eyes being well protected. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, IT MUST BE FUNNY. IT IS THE RICH MAN'S WORLD.
