You're exactly right. My Silverado had a K&N CAI on it from the previous owner and even their "CAI" only had a poorly fitted box to isolate it from the engine bay. Huge gaps around the sides and it has a 2-3in gap between the top and the hood when closed. At 70, intake temps were fine ambient temps. Towing in stop and go traffic in the middle of summer, intake temps would fly up. Sealed up the top and sides and never had an issue.
Right! I'm pretty sure that's the Chevy crate motor that's rated around 680 and if I remember correctly, it has EXTREMELY mild cam timing and I think I can run on 89 or 91.
It must be embarrassing how you go from one of the most likeable guys to one of the most hated guys in the community lol no wonder you don't show face anymore at the Cleetus events.
It's called a cold air intake for a reason. But most "bolt on" kits are not cold air. Shoot... a lot of OEM systems are better that the after market.

I added an under bumper scoop to the Banks system on my truck. IATs are now MUCH happier.
My truck has a ram air hood feeding my banks cold air intake.
