Gate shaming is a AWESOME WAY to cut down on zone cheaters. AirBnB had a large part in the reason that long term rent and real estate prices went through the roof.
I understand the "alarm" system would improve things for the majority, but I really hope it is accompanied by an improvement in announcements for disabled boarding. The announcement for guests with disabilities is often made a second before the next group, or skipped entirely. This means that by the time I get to the gate door, the first group of "preferred elite members" or whatever other fancy rich people is usually already boarding. I already have enough trouble with the boarding process when flying as a disabled person, and I would really not appreciate if they add a loud alarm to that process. My disability is not immediately obvious when looking at me, so I expect a lot of withering looks and questions if this happens. Again, I totally get why they would institute this, I just would like to see "guests who need extra time to board due to disabilities, children, etc" announced clearly and with ample time to avoid that alarm. Sorry for the long comment.
@@AK-jt9gxI assume the airline is aware of your disability? The refund thing may bite. If you are refunded and still need to fly, you’re going to pay more for the new ticket day of travel unless you forfeit the refund for protection.
So what you’re saying is-flights are about to get even more expensive. For the economically challenged, that means flight prices will increase to cover the costs of the refunds. The airlines are not going to lose profits.
I personally don’t understand two things when flying. 1) Why people feel the absolute need to be on the plane fast only to sit there waiting until boarding group 8 is finally on the aircraft and seated. 2) Why passengers in the middle of the plane must get up right when the unfasten seatbelt tone goes off only to crowd the aisle immediately. If you’re one of these people, you’re horrible and don’t have any flying etiquette. I always hope my fellow flyers on trips I take will one day prove me wrong but without fail these two very things happen on every flight I’ve ever taken.
I’ve travelled in Europe and at least one airline was already using machines which prevented early boarding. Not sure why AA is getting all the press. I don’t see it as “public shaming”, sometimes the gate announcements are inaudible with no clarity on what group is boarding. Regardless, early boarding issues are a result of baggage fees and no consistent enforcement of carry on items.
If weather causes your flight delay, you can choose to get a refund OR they will try to put you on the next flight. This hasn't changed except you'll get your refund faster.
Hopefully this bizarre Air B&B trend is over. The hosts ruined it, not the government. Just so strange being in a place not specifically designed for out of town guests. Hotels exist for a reason
@sly0422 Uber doesn't disrupt neighborhoods like Airbnb does having transient people in and out of the same house there is some awkwardness with Uber in the beginning but now everyone is very comfortable with a stranger driving. I know some people are okay with the weird feeling of being in a private home. But most people would just like the anonymity of going into a faceless hotel that is set up for strangers
@ It’s only a disruption if it’s a party house 100% of the time and most people don’t even know what homes are used for Air BnBs in the neighborhoods. Booking and staying at an air Bnb is no different than going to a hotel, besides getting more space and needing to clean after yourself. I’m fine with either but hotel prices are gonna rise without. Most of those rules already have applied in Vegas bc the hotels and casinos weren’t about to have them take their business.
Regarding the full refund when there are severe delays….will that refund amount cover the likely much more expensive ticket, if rebooking is needed to reach the intended destination. Seems more like a win for the airlines, especially if the refund does not reach the consumer for 7 days.
NYC air bnb law has been that for sometime because landlords won’t rent to everyday working renters. They can make more money that way which causes a huge housing crisis in NYC. I definitely understand the landlords side especially how hard it is to get non paying tenants out!
I fly southwest and I’ve only seen this once and it was this summer. A woman had a C20 something boarding group. She scanned in A group walked as fast as she could and the agent called her back as his machine notified him she wasnt to board. The agent explained to her she had to go by BOTH letter and number. I was in A45 or something, and observed her get in line for B group as well. I eventually saw her get on the plane w the C group but OMG! Then she was also one of those slowest people deciding where to out her carry on. lol
wish that was last year, bc my sister, her son and BIL were on flight to LA for return to NZ. There planes had to return to Little Rock due to tech difficulty and plane was then 4 hrs late to Dallas and by time they got to LA it was 8pm. Luckily they had booked flight home next day otherwise they would have missed flight. SW gave then travel vouchers which is no good,bc there is no plan to return this year.
Nothing will make me happier when flying is when someone tries to jump zones and an alarm goes off. This is brilliant!! The alarms needs to yell "get your ass out of line and board with your group". :)
My question for this is... will all airlines be doing this or just a select few? The worst cases I've seen of this was in Mexico and Peru. If this new rule becomes global then it's a game changer.
One potential unintended consequence I fear with a refund due to things beyond the control of the airline is having airlines take chances flying in bad weather to avoid monetary loss. Safety must be of paramount importance, not avoiding refunds and loss of income. I hope there has been some thought about that possibility when the government came up with that idea. But I certainly agree that people should have the option to get a refund and make other travel arrangements should the need arise.
I like American Airline’s idea about enforcing the boarding groups! People who pay the very basic price shouldn’t be able to board early, thereby putting their carry-on right near their seat. Others pay more just to board early, so that they have room for their carry-on, so it needs to be enforced. (I don’t pay the extra fee to board early, and I accept the limitations that come with that.) Fair is fair.

Well Air France has never followed up on my claim of a lost flight. What about passengers who have mobility issues who are traveling with family? Returning from Italy earlier this year was returning with my family and I have a mobility issue. An individual approached us in the Airport and lead us to an express line for the "TSA,'s" equivalent of security. We were also boarded first as a family along with parents with small children and others with handicaps. Now my ticket did not mention a mobility issue but Thank You to the Italian security for getting us through the handicap express line and onto the aircraft in a timely manner. It’s very difficult to stand in line for over 20 minutes and then trying to walk to the boarding gate. It’s even worse for me to ride in the busses that transport passengers to the aircraft when the airline has no jetways to the aircraft.
The TSA has zero oversight on the airlines, the DOT does, so kudos to not knowing that. Liquids, travelling anywhere in and out of the U.S., can't be above 3.4oz/100ml. Duty Free alcohol has to get tested, and if it doesn't pass the test, you either gotta hand it over or check it onto the plane before going through security. There are some medical exceptions on some liquids, and the size amount doesn't look like it will be changing anytime soon.
British Columbia implemented rules last year that started this year stating that short term rentals can only occur in which the home owner lives on that property as well. This was implemented due to a shortage of housing right across BC. New York copied BCs model
Maybe stop charging for checked baggage. The Airbnb regulations are a good thing. There are whole shady industries based around buying up neighborhoods and renting them out as Airbnbs, driving up prices for locals. It was originally supposed to be just for couch surfing backpackers. And now it’s more expensive than just getting a hotel.
Commercial Airlines really board first to back to keep the weight off the engines as long as possible. The back actually would sink below its normal weight if they go back to front. If you are still unsure ask another aerospace engineer
Please note the standard that determines a late or on time details had not changed. Technically, if you're plane disconnects from the gate on time, but sits for another 4 to 6 hours before taking off, it is still recorded as an on-time departure.
Ny’s short term rentals requirement that owner be present (on premises) makes 100% sense - otherwise a short term rental, just for short term renters, becomes a de-facto zone change from residential to commercial hotel. Zoning exists for a reason.

Yet the Spanish people do nothing about the illegal immigrants there. "My fren my fren you buy? Baddy baddy I give you bracelet" 🗑️🗑️🗑️

Pete is making travel better
Nope
He really is. Flight was cancelled. Airline wanted to rebook me TWO days later out of a different city. I took the refund instead. My card was refunded in TWO DAYS. That’s unheard of. It was all Pete’s new policies!
Thank you Biden for helping the everyday citizen get through everyday situations better!
THIS. DOT has done some great things under the B-H admin. S/O to Pete Buttigieg.
Question: Are their any regulation regarding flight attendants given your seat to another passenger without your permission? Or even asking you to switch your seat with another passenger?
I was recently in MIA and I saw a solution to people crowding the gate. Which annoys me even more than jumping the line.
I believe it was Aeromexico, they had roped off queues for each boarding group! 😮 It was amazing! No one was being rude and blocking the gate from others to board at their group numbers.
Why can't ALL airlines do that!?
Good to know. We all need to get out if this country before Jan.
Safe travels. Nobody wants u here.
We are!
Please do

I used to love Airbnb. Then one opened up on my street. Last night at 3 AM, four or five people were dragging roller bags down my street, which is nothing but stairs steps the whole way. They were also talking at the top of their lungs. And if you will believe it playing music. I guess they think that this neighborhood is some sort of movie set, and that people don’t actually live here. I am never gonna stay in an Airbnb again.
people have the right to rent out spare bedrooms.
Man this is peak first world problems
Where I live there are whole neighborhoods built to be Airbnbs. Maybe they thought they were at one of those places
That seems like the most benign problem ever. That happens everywhere that there are neighborhoods with close homes.
is this why they are getting rid of it? because karens are complaining about other people living their best life and their stuck in a pathetic life, also i wasnt aware you can buy streets.
This is Dept of Transportation

Don’t those poor people have enough to deal with?
You couldn’t even “fact check “ on Google before air time???
Have to create more misinformation and confusion, you know? It’s kind of the media’s job at this point.
Are you calling tsa poor people who have enough to deal with? I don’t dislike them off that bat but they are mostly useless and cause increased stress for everyone. Truly asking, what do they need defended for? And yes I do understand your point that this is meant to be about dot
You say that but it’s Security Administration not Safety 🤣
The refund thing may bite. If you are refunded and still need to fly, you’re going to pay more for the new ticket day of travel unless you forfeit the refund for protection.
Recently had to buy day-of flight when my dad died and I was shocked that this is a myth. It was not more expensive, even on a Sunday.
Thank you Pete Buttigieg!
Pot-hole Pete?
So what you’re saying is-flights are about to get even more expensive. For the economically challenged, that means flight prices will increase to cover the costs of the refunds. The airlines are not going to lose profits.
Refunds have no cost if the flight never took off. If travel goes down do to a price increase they will drop the price to make a profit
We have had those flight refund rules in EU for over a decade and they work great!
Trump's new DOT loyalist appointee from the airline industry will now cancel this.
Is TDS going to be a lifelong illness for you or just the next four years?
And you know this ahead of Trump ?
Thanks Biden! Trump is going to cancel this btw

It would not surprise me if Trump did exactly that.

Dude you are so correct!
So you have a spot in the overhead bin
Just about time. Who pass this? Clearly dont bite offers from corporations. Salute.
THANK YOU, PETE!
New rules only apply to domestic flights or international flights?
TSA has less than nothing to do with the refund policy. This is on DOT. Accuracy is a nice car.
If weather causes your flight delay, you can choose to get a refund OR they will try to put you on the next flight. This hasn't changed except you'll get your refund faster.
I’ve been a ‘gate louse’ before but promise it was unintentional. Please put up a sign indicating which group is currently boarding!
They’re called Bed n Breakfast…. When the hosts stays onsite.
lol Nobody is making them breakfast 😂
Hopefully this bizarre Air B&B trend is over. The hosts ruined it, not the government. Just so strange being in a place not specifically designed for out of town guests. Hotels exist for a reason
How is air B&B any different than Uber or Lyft, this was pass because of hotel lobbyist. Gave people options and didn’t force them to get a hotel
I hope people understand that if you ask for a refund that means the airline is no longer responsible for your travel
That First One is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then she was also one of those slowest people deciding where to out her carry on. lol
Is this just for holiday travels or all year round long term ?
What constitutes delay flight refunds ? Is is based on specific times?
Who is this lady? TSA has nothing to do with airline policy and refunds and Hawaii( Oahu)has banned short term rentals since 2020.
I would like to know as the editor of Condé Nast where does she like to go on vacation?
DOT not TSA . Great reporting
Good to see more air bnb regulations. Need more of that everywhere
wish that was last year, bc my sister, her son and BIL were on flight to LA for return to NZ.
They don’t want their planes to crash.
Good point, @sbupp 😮
@@dktk540insurance and they don’t care about humans

@@Sam-oo6wydude what? 😂
The automatic refund means we the consumer will pay the price. This means the airline are going up on ticket prices.
Boo hoo.
Newsflash: prices are going up anyways.
The airlines should be able to save some money by not having to pay customer service staff to argue with customers on their behalf 😂
I am scared that they will be less likely to cancel a flight. Fly in borderline weather conditions or with a questionable mechanical problem
Then you should be mad at the corporation and those corporations should be held accountable for wrongdoing
Glad to hear short term rentals are finally being addressed. Shut them down!
I’m fully vaccinated, so I can enjoy the flight while staying healthy with my friends and family
Airbnb regulations didn’t work in New York. They just show in New Jersey and contact you privately about the place in New York.
Get insurance on your plane ticket so you have protection, I always get the airline insurance when buying a plane ticket
If you travel international, also remember to pack plenty of Canadian flags, badges, t-shirts, etc.
?
@ Do you want internationals to treat you like an US American?
Never look like an America when you are traveling... that has always been the case. This isn't new. But I get your point.
This isn’t something I’ve thought of. Is it to avoid the (well deserved) stigma?
@@VanceWorldTravel2 If you think someone in another country can't tell that you're an American - you're delusional. lol Also, unless you're traveling to some third world country in the Middle East - no one gives a crap if you're an American.
For a full refund what happens when your ticket is multiple stops? The rest of the flights on your itinerary get automatically cancelled?
Do these rules apply only to domestic flights? Specially the refunds?
They should make it mandatory for TSA to not be rude?!!?!?
Do you have to request the delay flight refund??
What does "significant" delay mean? 4 hours? 8 hours?
They forgot to add RUDE passenger they should be banned on all airlines for 5 yrs depending on issues
Such a great travel expert that doesn't understand the difference between TSA and DOT office of aviation consumer protection
The security at London Heathrow is insanely brutal . That said Dublin is even worse .
100%! I was at Heathrow a week ago. Almost all of the bags were getting flagged from the machines to have them searched by an agent. It was a bit over the top.
Right, with the refund: what if the company you work for paid for your flight?
Thank DOT and transportation secretary Pete for the first rule.
I love the Gate Lice, rule.
The gate attendants will never enforce because they hate confrontation.
@@SKS8080Not up to them. System sounds the buzzer upon scan

Could you explain why regulations were placed on short term rentals?
The TSA has zero oversight on the airlines, the DOT does, so kudos to not knowing that. Liquids, travelling anywhere in and out of the U.S., can't be above 3.4oz/100ml. Duty Free alcohol has to get tested, and if it doesn't pass the test, you either gotta hand it over or check it onto the plane before going through security. There are some medical exceptions on some liquids, and the size amount doesn't look like it will be changing anytime soon.
Good to crack down on air bnb : they raise rents everywhere and there are shortages of residential homes which the workers need to have !!!
Airbnb needs to be banned across the US and maybe it would help with our housing crisis.
Thank you Mayor Pete.
British Columbia implemented rules last year that started this year stating that short term rentals can only occur in which the home owner lives on that property as well. This was implemented due to a shortage of housing right across BC. New York copied BCs model
Same in Boston!
So true.
You forgot to mention that REALIDs will be mandated in April 2025.
This would’ve been nice this summer when I was stuck in NYC overnight coming back from France.
What qualifies as a "significant" delay?
thank you pete buttigieg
Air travel is INSANE! 😤
Where do we find these new rules listed?
Does economy tickets qualify for this too?
