This same dangerous mentality dominates today’s dating scene. You do all the things after a few dates that committed people do -only without any commitment. You can’t really know anything important about each other in that time. Yet you give your heart and body only to face disappointment and regrets because he had no intention of getting to know you. Many women do this over and over passing their thoughtless example on to their daughters. And yet these same ones scoff at the wisdom of waiting until marriage.
DONT SLEEP WITH MEN BEFORE MARRIAGE! If you are loved you will be offered an engagement ring. If you aren’t offered that YOU ARENT LOVED. So don’t make a doormat of yourself
@@Alicetheamethyst why are so many girls freaking IDIOTS??? Marriage IS a guarantee that you have legal rights that sloppy living/sleeping together doesn’t give you. It guarantees that you respect yourself and your body enough not to give it away to guys who want to use you. It’s a guarantee that you won’t bring infections/stds to a guy you care about/it’s a guarantee that you aren’t easy and thought of as a whore. Because that’s how men see women of easy virtue! U want a guarantee stupid girl???? You’ll come a whole lot closer if you look for a man who respects you and your family enough to honor you in this legal and traditional way and not treat you like a cum dumpster. I’m right and you KNOW I’m right so don’t talk to me anymore about your filthy whore ideas
@oldyeller6518 no fictional character is real but it doesn't stop people talking about, writing about and even being examd about their character and motives and even correlation with real people and experiences in the real world. Also I wasn't talking about Joe I was just saying marriage isn't a guarantee of anything.
While Rhoda is my favorite character of all time, I understand Mike. Some people just don't want to be tied down. And, this applies to men and to women.
Ok but he should have said that before sleeping with her. A man told me that before sleeping with me, I asked him why and he ended up weeping in my couch, I didn’t sleep with him but I’m glad we had the conversation
I would've let him go. They want different things. Why go out with him even every 2 weeks if you want more? Even that she had to practically beg for. He's just like Joe. No commitment, no ties, everything on his terms. Phooey on that. Dump him and hope the next guy will want the same things you want.
I don't know, I preferred Michael Delano, "Johnny Venture" as Rhoda's love interest. His persistence in chasing Rhoda and her pushing him away would have played off better though season 3 and beyond. They could have slowly developed Johnny in really having feelings for Rhoda, and his shallowness/vain self dissolved by his realization to prove it. This would have been something interesting and potentially could have kept the show on longer. Can you imagine his interactions with Ida? Too bad it was a missed opportunity.
I'm team Rhoda on this one. It would be easy to feel like he got what he wanted and thus was done with her. I also see it from Mike's POV since a handful of dates does not equal exclusive. He just seemed to be putting in effort until they slept together and then stopped hahaha
It’s fine to go on a handful of dates, he knew what he was doing and played her. A good man would have run far far away from a newly divorced woman. She was aroused and interested and he took advantage
I worked in Timp temple with Morgan's wife Natalie in 2014 when he was my attorney. I sat ar her table in Cafeteria one day and started talking to her re my case. She stopped me and said "I dont discuss my husbands politics or business". A typical Mormon stepfordwife. She should have run years ago. Morgans license to practice law also suspended. Renting a $824k home in Alpine with no legal clients. Living off his extortion proceeds.
Lynda Anthony... Rhoda is insecure and Joe never wanted to get married again, so their marriage was doomed to fail. Joe was always angry because he was uncomfortable, and Rhoda's insecurities were fueled by his discomfort of being married...They were both jerks in these moments, it's just that Joe seemed like the bigger jerk, since everyone (fans) feels so protective of Rhoda- we've known her longer:)
I adore Rhoda and her character, however I find her to be slightly annoying. Its almost like instead of marrying her off and then divorcing her (Joe always seemed like a dick ) maybe they should have built up her confidence. So many times she just seems overly needy, overly dramatic that in most ways men dont find long term attractive. I mean Valerie Harper is beautiful and she looked amazing, they just ran her insecurities too much. As she ages through the series it would have been refreshing too see she and Brenda kinda come full circle and learn to love themselves for themselves... insecurities and all.
@@nonenoneonenonenone You have to understand that in the 1970's, people who came of age in that decade or in the 1960's were NEVER told by their parents, teachers or other older role models that they were anything special. In fact, unlike the millennials, most of us were told just the opposite. In particular we were told things like "we don't know anything because we are still "wet behind the ears."" You are nothing special, etc., etc. Why do you think baby boomers lavished praise on their children and sponsored giving everyone a trophy just because they were participants? It is because baby boomers were trying to overcompensate for not having that praise from their parents. We were NEVER, and I mean NEVER congratulated for any accomplishment, even if that accomplishment was major. We were NEVER told that someone is proud of us. And this is EXACTLY why so many of us were and may still be insecure. And then to top it all off, we are now told by millennials that it is our generation that is to be blamed for everything wrong in the world now!!! I swear that we were abused and belittled as youth and now that we are older and had some hope that we would be respected by the newer generations just as we had respected our elders, instead we are further belittled and demeaned by the millennials. Sometimes I think we baby boomers should be called "the generation that was screwed coming and going!" But I will tell you one thing! We are FED UP and I will say it again we are FED UP with the abuse. We had no child protective services or any other agency to protect us as children. We had to take the abuse because we had absolutely no other alternative than to live with our parents or end up in juvenile hall. No one EVER thought that the child was abused when we baby boomers were children!!! So if you wonder why so many of us our insecure, that is the reason!
Lol it's similarly to what Joe said at the beginning of their relationship but she refused to listen. It's kind of her fault for trying to force guys into relationships they not ready for
I AGREE it IS Rhoda's fault. She gets all possessive and angry too quick. She wanted to marry Joe before they dated, literally. She wants this guy for a steady boyfriend after the 2nd date. It's true Rhoda is indeed nuts! Remember when she took time off from work so she could see Joe? Then when Joe he said he had to work she burst into flames? She didn't even check with him to see if he could take the time off! She just assumed he'd be free! Sounds to me that Rhoda is full of herself.
It's that age old problem; you attract your insecurities. Rhoda always struggled with self esteem and feelings of not being good enough. She then attracts men that fed that emotional need. At the same time she's strong, opinionated and independent and has a tendency to push her ideals on others. So here she is yet again falling in love with a man she knows doesn't want to get in a monogamist relationship but still tries to change him.
Agreed. The Writers should have lightened up on Rhoda being exasperated and angrier... after the first three seasons. Something about it lacked energy. I never liked the character of Joe, because he was always exasperated and angry about some thing.
She didnt force him. she just decided not to continue with him after she found out how he was. She rushed into the situation outa being on the rebound..Besides. theres a difference between being soneones plaything.on their terms plus not being upfront about it..or seeing someone and seeing how it goes down the road. ..This guy wants to degrade Rhoda and that will never happen The writers will not do that to her charactor..Im surprised they illuded thar she slept with the user. Then make her seem uncool not to just say ok. ill just fool around whenever..taking advantage of her since she has no children.
She's allowed to set her own boundaries on what she's comfortable with. She did push Joe, in a way, but he also agreed to her terms. It just wasn't gonna work, though, if either one of them had to compromise as much as he did. There wasn't enough communication about this.
This is pathetic. Why would she agree to this selfish, one-sided arrangement just to have this man in her life? They obviously have no future with him asking why she’d “like to jump back into air-tight security?” as if that were bad. Such a stupid question.
Because she knows that the world is not filled with someone you click with all the time. They have chemistry, sparks fly. She likes this guy. Should she tell him to bite it? Of course. And I think she will. But she's newly divorced, maybe lonely, and still insecure from it. I understand why she's agreeing to this at first, though. Make no mistake, she knows she's wrong. Also, P.S., this is just fiction. It is a sitcom, a made up story.
Mike sounds like another joe. She should take the hint. Joe didn’t really want to be married and she more or less forced him into a corner and look what happened. Mike really does not want to commit. Don’t force him, because he won’t stick with it.
I have been watching all of these seasons, quite a few times actually ( I don't have a tv), and really enjoy them, one comment, Rhodas make up( on her face): it appears to be grey based, there is definitely something dark or odd about her face, what do other people think?
Funny, I was about to comment and say that the makeup person has used way too much gray in Valerie's makeup this season. I didn't even know that there was gray in TV face makeup, but here it is. It's off-putting and unnatural. All the other actors featured here look fine. Weird.
It looks as though they were trying to make her tan paler by powdering over it. If she suddenly looked really tanned then they’d have to explain it in the show. But they didn’t do a good job.
What destroyed this show was allowing the characters of Rhoda and Joe to divorce and then the fact the show ran its course; meaning the scripts were not fresh and the program should have ended a few years earlier.
More likely, they never should have married in the first place, as being single was part of her definition. But dating an endless parade of men wouldn't have worked, either. If Mary had married, then how merry would Mary have been?
I thought Mike was a creep who took delight in toying with Rhoda's emotions. But the important thing was that Rhoda learned about dating and it's pitfalls.
I like gary but who she dates is not his business. Rhoda acts like an idiot when mike arrives. Rhoda needs to chill out. Even 5 dates does not mean it will lead to anything...she acts like a teenager going steady.
It’s not really about dates but intention. Women should be treated with respect regardless of whether they are having sex or not. This character saw women as playthings not people
Value yourselves ladies! If commitment is what you want, DON'T compromise to an occasional booty call...stop making it EZ for men to hit and quit it...you'll look desperate, thirsty. Smh ...and still, you DON'T get what you want.
I didn't realize then nor now, how stupid this show became. You can really tell the writers were scrambling to write a meaty script but they failed on so many levels. They made Rhoda's character a victim meets vixen. This show became so incredibly desperate and and I'm not sure why! I think MTM's involvement (with the studio) might have been partially behind it. Oh well.
I think the indirection is expressed by the ever-changing theme music. Instability, because their ideas of Rhoda remain the same, while society keeps shifting.
I don't get these comments. The plot in this show was completely realistic - ALL of us have made dumb romantic choices. Yes the guy was an ahole but I'm pretty sure Rhoda will figure that out and already knows she made a mistake and will turn this guy down. People are really reacting to this episode and my guess is that it is pushing a lot of people's buttons from their own life experiences. We've all messed up and made mistakes, done stupid things, fallen for the wrong person, etc, especially when vulnerable, like Rhoda is in this episode because it's her first date since her divorce. She's understandably insecure as a result and so she agrees to an arrangement with someone that she knows she can't keep. Why? Because this is the first guy she has been with since Joe and they clicked and slept together. She's only human. People are allowed to make mistakes. I really don't think there is anything wrong with this episode. I think it mirrored real life in a lot of ways. And there is no way Rhoda will stay with this guy. But the beauty of her character is that she is flawed. That's what makes the show good and makes her interesting.
Brenda is such a lovable character
Julie is the only Brenda there could ever be to play opposite Valerie as Rodha. She is truly the best, as her long career has shown her out to be!

And yet these same ones scoff at the wisdom of waiting until marriage.
wisdom Anita? try God's dictums and rules - reason He says it.
Basically don’t open the cookie jar until someone buys the cookie. 😉

Me too. Love the colors. I always loved her boho look.
I love her clothes......
Rip beautiful VALERIE HARPER😔🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Brenda’s yellow look is 100% desirable and acceptable today
Love ❤️ Rhoda’s accent 💕
Love this lesson in communication.
DONT SLEEP WITH MEN BEFORE MARRIAGE! If you are loved you will be offered an engagement ring. If you aren’t offered that YOU ARENT LOVED. So don’t make a doormat of yourself
Or like Joe they will marry you sleep with you and leave you marriage isn't a guarantee
@@Alicetheamethyst btw, JOE ISNT REAL
@oldyeller6518 no fictional character is real but it doesn't stop people talking about, writing about and even being examd about their character and motives and even correlation with real people and experiences in the real world. Also I wasn't talking about Joe I was just saying marriage isn't a guarantee of anything.

I liked rhoda hair up and that blue blouse
Mmm mmm mmm always loved me some Judd Hirsch.
He and Rhoda had great chemistry. They looked wonderful together.
I love this version of the theme.
I love Rhonda!
While Rhoda is my favorite character of all time, I understand Mike. Some people just don't want to be tied down. And, this applies to men and to women.
Who would dump Rhoda - she's gorgeous oh so smart, sassy, funny and strong - a gem, yet she pushes for men? No.
If a woman doesn't want to be tied down he has the wrong rope😝. Just sayin.
@@writeract2 she’s a bitchy feminist
Most people don't want to be used like that. Physical intimacy may mean more to some people than others. Hopefully these people get paired up.
Ok but he should have said that before sleeping with her. A man told me that before sleeping with me, I asked him why and he ended up weeping in my couch, I didn’t sleep with him but I’m glad we had the conversation
Eartha Kitt would tell this guy to stick it.
I would've let him go. They want different things. Why go out with him even every 2 weeks if you want more? Even that she had to practically beg for. He's just like Joe. No commitment, no ties, everything on his terms. Phooey on that. Dump him and hope the next guy will want the same things you want.
i have to agree!! Yet I love the closing credits in NYC!!
Why do they picture such guys as Mike as 'actractive'? I don't find him at all good looking.
Because Rhoda is supposed to be Jewish. I think he's hot.
If you're basing it on ethnicity, why not Ron Silver? He was pretty attractive and also Jewish.
Me neither.
Aphra Benn I met him on a movie set in 1979. He was not very friendly at all.
I think they're both handsome.
I absolutely, positively love Carlton!🥰
Me too ❤
Judd Hirsch from TAXI. 😄🚖
I love Rhoda’s date outfit.
Rhoda didnt need to say she is insecure, settling for less than she needs says it all
My favorite Rhoda opening. Season 2 is my second favorite.
I'm surprised that Rhonda gave it up so quickly........
Well she wasn't a virgin. She has been married before..
@@stephaniemurria5534And it was the seventies.
I'm team Rhoda on this one. It would be easy to feel like he got what he wanted and thus was done with her. I also see it from Mike's POV since a handful of dates does not equal exclusive. He just seemed to be putting in effort until they slept together and then stopped hahaha
The guy was an ass.
Not sure any sleeping was involved.
It’s fine to go on a handful of dates, he knew what he was doing and played her. A good man would have run far far away from a newly divorced woman. She was aroused and interested and he took advantage
How can Rhoda be so Beautiful and so insecure at the same time? I don't get it.
It happens.
I do. One of my best friends is the same.
To be honest they are not connected.
finding security in fading beauty is hardly a place to find security.
a lot of women are this way
I worked in Timp temple with Morgan's wife Natalie in 2014 when he was my attorney.
That's what Joe was looking for
Joe 2.0
I love her white gauze top. I once had one just like it. So comfy.
Peasant blouse they were called. I still see them in department stores today.
Was Mike married?
Why is she getting involved with a jerk like that?! He doesn't care about her, he just wants her as a toy, to sleep with her. -_-
Emily Edwards You'd think that she would have learned her lesson from her time with Joe :-(
I loved Joe!!
BettinaBalser what was wrong with Joe?😐
Lynda Anthony... Rhoda is insecure and Joe never wanted to get married again, so their marriage was doomed to fail. Joe was always angry because he was uncomfortable, and Rhoda's insecurities were fueled by his discomfort of being married...They were both jerks in these moments, it's just that Joe seemed like the bigger jerk, since everyone (fans) feels so protective of Rhoda- we've known her longer:)
Emily Edwards it's called dating
I adore Rhoda and her character, however I find her to be slightly annoying. Its almost like instead of marrying her off and then divorcing her (Joe always seemed like a dick ) maybe they should have built up her confidence. So many times she just seems overly needy, overly dramatic that in most ways men dont find long term attractive. I mean Valerie Harper is beautiful and she looked amazing, they just ran her insecurities too much. As she ages through the series it would have been refreshing too see she and Brenda kinda come full circle and learn to love themselves for themselves... insecurities and all.
But look at who her MOTHER is. This is the damage they do.
Judd Hirsch is great as Rhoda boyfriend. He was great on Taxi.
Rhoda and and all the men she was too good for
Mike ia like a Greek Joe with a sense of humor.
2:20 loved Judd Hirsch in Independence Day❤️❤️
Makes me wonder how many others he has the same deal with.
Erik, There wasn’t anyone like Rhoda 😄
He's just not that in to you.
So don’t sleep with people you’re not that into
This is pathetic.
Weird.
I agree
It looks as though they were trying to make her tan paler by powdering over it. If she suddenly looked really tanned then they’d have to explain it in the show. But they didn’t do a good job.
What destroyed this show was allowing the characters of Rhoda and Joe to divorce and then the fact the show ran its course; meaning the scripts were not fresh and the program should have ended a few years earlier.
More likely, they never should have married in the first place, as being single was part of her definition. But dating an endless parade of men wouldn't have worked, either. If Mary had married, then how merry would Mary have been?
The producers of the show thought a single woman would give them more story lines.
There is only one problem I see with this show, I wish it had 8 season's instead of 5 anyone think this to..
I was today years old when I realized that Brenda is Marge Simpson 😮😮
Judd Hirsch is a very good actor.
I missed it, how , when and why did Rhoda lose her window shop and go to work for Jack?
This guy was insufferable and creepy. I don’t get why she wanted him, unless it was because she couldn’t.
Friends with benefits basically...
3.5❤
thanks
Wish they could come up with better intro music.
Nice guy Mike turns into Joe #2. After all Rhoda has been through, this guy is Ditch City.
Poor Mike, he lost his restaurants and had to become a taxi driver
And change his name.

And all within a year! LOL.

Bruh was too smart for his own good
Rhoda likes these goofy looking guys, while she's so pretty.
It's like that. I'm Rhoda of this century.
Well Joe and Mike were attractive.
How could he dump Rhoda????
Is he nuts??????
I thought Mike was a creep who took delight in toying with Rhoda's emotions. But the important thing was that Rhoda learned about dating and it's pitfalls.
Mike smart mouth just like Rhoda 👍🏻 😊
I CANT STAND that guy!!!!
Was Rhoda divorced?
The theme song got messed up the closer we got to 1976...
This character saw women as playthings not people
This seems pretty head of its time for 50 years ago. Now, this situation is the way it is. Casual is the norm, I think, for a lot of people.
Value yourselves ladies! If commitment is what you want, DON'T compromise to an occasional booty call...stop making it EZ for men to hit and quit it...you'll look desperate, thirsty. Smh ...and still, you DON'T get what you want.
Lol he called her u devil lmao joking of course love this show..7.5❤
It’s not about being “easy” but being intentional if a guy wants sex after 4 dates you as a woman can say “why do you want to sleep with me so fast?”
Yuck, he’s worse than joe
Hirsch was 70' handsome - I hated David Groh as Joe - now they had no chemistry and he was an awful character.
Really? I loved Joe, and I thought he was hot as hell.
I'm not sure Rhoda's anxiety and insecurity goes well with her newly brown skin.
Unpopular opinion Joe was a good guy who wasn't in love
ALEX REIGER!!!!
Amy Pieterse LOL!! I can almost hear Louie DePalma saying "Reiger!" over his microphone.
A more blunt and upfront version of her and Joe.
Not really. She is giddy around him.
She needs security because she's insecure. I totally get her on this. I have an overbearing, crazy mom, too!
That's what makes the show good and makes her interesting.
.....the ocean POUNDING the shore.
