I was hospitalised for 4 days due to seizures and the whole experience from the paramedics telling me I was faking and refusing to take my service dog to the neurologist pinching my shoulder mid seizure to “prove I was faking” was incredibly traumatic. Thankfully the other neurologist was a lot nicer and so we’re some of the staff but they kept whispering about how my dog is a pitbull when she’s not and that she’s fake despite her literally alerting to my seizures up to 45 mins in advance. Clearly so fake ✨
One of the nurses even dragged her away mid seizure and when I came out of it I had a flashback and started screaming and sobbing until they let her do her job. Cherry on top was being told to just breathe and it’ll make the seizures go away.
Now I have a ton of medical trauma and can’t even sleep in my bed or get in the car without flashbacks and my girl can no longer work in hospitals as it fucked her up too.
Still have a bruised shoulder over a week later btw, well done NHS.

Omg, never go to r/seizures… I legit joined thinking it would be folks with epilepsy talking ab the randomness that it is…. Nope. I finally turned off the notifications for it cause it was just a bunch of people asking if what they had was a seizure or not. I got tired of writing “go see a neurologist if you think you’re having seizures. We aren’t doctors.”

I have FND and my seizures can come on quickly and are not connected to emotions. It really annoys me that people say they are always connected to emotions because in my case they are not. Mine are when I am tired, ill or hormonal cycle linked. Instead my doctors just tell me not to get stressed when it is nothing to do with it!

Hi! I also have functional non epileptic seizures amd funnily enough don’t fulfil any of those criteria. Even when under video EEG they said they could only tell be the complete absence of epileptiform activity on the EEG (they caught 20+ generalised tonic-clonic seizures so it was clear). Also every time I get brought to the ER, both the emergency doctor and the doctors in the ER always think it must be epileptic. I find it really interesting in what way the brain works. I’ve got severe FND and the more research that comes out, the more interesting it gets!

Is it possible that the origin of your seizure is deeper in the brain than what the EEG can measure?

When my boyfriend has a seizure he told me that he loses control of his body and that's all that he remembers until he wakes up.
But his blood pressure gets very high and he has to be sedated until blood pressure comes down then he wakes up.
He has had several and has even fallen down a flight of stairs.
Does his stress levels have anything to do with this??

Hey doctor every time I go to the ER the doctors seem to not care or think I’m faking and asking the nurses if they witnessed it but the Nurses speak their concerns are more concerned and helpful but they still seem not to care and they keep misdiagnosing me with both conditions you mentioned in the video it’s very frustrating this has been going on for 8 months now

I actually suffer from dissociative seizures. It’s crazy. I remember everything, but I don’t remember the night when I wake up. From what others say I speak with a different accent and completely different. I’m glad that I’m not the only one

You might want to look into other dissociative disorders too... especically if you have blackouts often and you act "differently" and don't remember it, specifically Dissociative Identity Disorder

Anyone at anytime can have one without having epilepsy, just like strokes or heart attacks …I wish none of those for you. But, seizures can be triggered by anything, even an emotion, sun or wind blow.
The nervous system is one big wonder. ❤

I have real epileptic seizures, and I also have Parkinson’s and when my medication wears off many times, I will have movement in one portion of my body, and then it’ll move to my whole body because of my Parkinson’s.
I have both tonic and tonic clonic seizures.
My back arch during my iconic seizures, and I lose consciousness.

One night when i still lived with my parents i had a grand mall seizure. When i woke up that morning i knew i had a seizure coz my whole body ached, dislocated my shoulder ect. So i like to sleep naked, they told me i walked into their room into the middle of the night naked and just stared at them all out of it. I dont know i thing about that, i still think they're messing with me, but they swear to me it happend. I think the seizure messed with my subconscious, triggering a sleep walk. Though I've never sleep walked in my life.
