I had a teenage friend of mine who was going to tell me about Amii Stewart's version when it first came out. I surprised him by singing the lyrics of the song which I remembered when Eddie Floyd did the song from the sixties.

This song hit #1 the week of April 21, 1979 on the Billboard hot 100...a few days earlier, this girl in my 6th grade class whacked me so hard on the head after she found out I was interested in her via my best friend that I could feel it hours afterwards...she knocked on wood all right!!!
@@sunryse111 Sadly, I had such low self-esteem and was scared of everything, it only convinced me that she hated me....yet a couple of months later, when her best friend came up to me in a bowling alley and asked me if I "liked" her (she was standing feet away), I ran off like a scared rabbit. Yes, that was my adolescence and teen years, nothing but fear and pushing people away. She was my first real love beyond a crush. It was long ago, but it's still my biggest regret in life, how I blew it then. Oh well, we live and learn the hard way, and it taught me to not give into fear and to stand up for myself. Still, I only wish that one day, even now, that I could tell her what she meant to me, but I doubt that will ever happen.
@@RovingRoy You should definitely tell her. I was exactly the same as a teenager, but when I got the chance in later years to tell the girl how I'd felt at the time - I took the opportunity and told her. It couldn't change the past, but I felt much better for it.
