There's not a lot about this song that dates it to pre-80s. It's impressive how forward-looking the composition is. And not to forget the absolutely KILLER vocals. I can only imagine what it was like in the studio managing to get such a flawless performance on tape.
Did you know this song was a cover of a song from the 60s? Eddie Floyd. I thought I'd mention that because the composition is even more forward-looking from that perspective - if that's what you mean by that phrase.
This is an absolutely awesome video made all the way back in 1979, people!! Amii Stewart's vocal performance is nothing short of stunning, and so is this video. She brought the fierceness all the way before that was even a term!! 💕
It did because it’s a flawless presentation of a moment in time - 1979 when disco reached its zenith and the combination of energy, music, and style was unmatched.

I think of this song as a passing of the torch. The 1970's and disco are both "near death", and this song is at least one of the moments where the torch is passed to the sound of the coming 1980's.

Makes feel older than I am!
Really so that means i was singing this when i was 7 and knew the words OMG
Time ages better with love, and i think thats the entire message of this song. Im over 98 years old and life went by quicker than you could imagine
disco era was the best music, this was one of the greatest, bring back this great dance music, exciting
I just discovered this song today... And oh my god! Im already addicted. Its so great and energetic, i just love it. It became one of my favourites. Brilliant!
Anyone agree that 70’s & 80’s music is the best 👍
PAWStively
Everything up to 95, after that music started catering to the post crack generation. I can’t relate.
I'd say it's very genre-specific. Some genres have evolved into something I enjoy more and others have just fallen apart.
and 60's too!
Throw in the 60's and you got a deal.
Who remembers 1979?
This, off the wall by michael jackson and prince self titled were all released in 1979
All great albums and rip to both of them 😢
Me perfectly
Yo, 79 en francia fue el año dónde murió Mesrine, en esa época el disco era la música lider con funkytown de lipps inc
Era la época de música realmente increíble como esta joya
Back when the Warriors Came out
This is an absolutely awesome video made all the way back in 1979, people!! Amii Stewart's vocal performance is nothing short of stunning, and so is this video. She brought the fierceness all the way before that was even a term!! 💕
A talented lady one camera and a monitor in front of each other some crazy reverb echoes and psycodelic misc effects = pure gold.
Damn if this didn’t age like fine wine.
Oh yes.
It did because it’s a flawless presentation of a moment in time - 1979 when disco reached its zenith and the combination of energy, music, and style was unmatched.
Love, love love everything about this video> The song, love it, Amii's costume, love it. Amii's hair, love it. The special effects, love them. Electronic beats, love them.
One of the best songs by one of the best singers of that era. Still grabs me every time I hear it
She looks like a superhero. Gorgeous voice, beautiful woman.
Great figure, I am so jealous!!!!!!
What a Frikkin' HAMMER...Wow
@@exposedpipes37 we shall call her Thora.
@@triciajohansen3027 Don't EVER be jealous of anyone else...Just always be the best and most beautiful you that you can be...Besides, she's probably old now and wears circus tents! 😂😂😂
@@exposedpipes37 thank you for your encouragement, Peter, that means a great deal. I hope the best for her as well. No circus tents!😎
Oh, Lordy, we danced to this AAAALL night long at Backstreet, in Atlanta! Soooo, many memories!!!❤🎉🎉
I love how you can hear the origins of 80s synth pop in 70's disco. This is a perfect example.
Definitely. Disco was so unpopular after 1980 in the US. It came back disguised as synth pop!
I think of this song as a passing of the torch. The 1970's and disco are both "near death", and this song is at least one of the moments where the torch is passed to the sound of the coming 1980's.
@@EddieMillerStudios video killed the radio star and pop muzik is the torch passing
One of the most catchy disco tunes in my opinion. Great one both then and now.
Could you imagine a duet with her and Grace Jones?? The stage couldn't handle all that goddess power!
I was thinking the same thing!!
OMG!
I just fainted thinking about it.
Oh my that would be exceptional
What an amazing song! I have always loved it. It lifts me up and carries me away! ❤
The bass on this is slammin, as well as Amii's voice.
She can sing. Whoever engineered the sound is a genius
The way this beautiful woman flows is AMAZING.
E chi mai la dimenticherà!!!! Bellissima
She was absolutely beautiful. Still is❤️

1979 what year for music
Agreed.
This was a killer track n still overpowers any club anthem of today ... But even the instrumentals is outstanding... very good musicians, including the lead vocalist of coz... Well done Amii...
Even as a kid I knew that this was going to be a classic
The ''Goddess'' of Disco!
And to top it off, she's a NATURAL BEAUTY 💜
Seriously undervalued, and one of the greatest 'one hit wonders' of them all. It was one of the top 3 or 4 disco songs at clubs in the day, that EVERYBODY got up to dance for them, Funky Town, Heart of Glass and Disco Inferno being the others.
As a Retired Sound Engineer?!? -
This was TOTALLY "ahead of its time"! - FACT! -
LISTEN to those DRUMS !!! - OMG !!! - YES !!! lol 🙂
Thank you for your skills.
@@judsonleach5248 Yes. Like thunder, lightning the way we love her is frightening lol
@@zacharyuhl7818 She so fine !!
@@zacharyuhl7818Knock" on wood!😂😂"..
I remember seeing this video on TV in the 80s when I was a kid. I always liked this version of the song and was enchanted by the video.
Electrifying. Keeps you rocking in motion. Loved dancing to it in the clubs. ❤❤❤
Социализм + электрификация🎉
Reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on 4/21/1979.
I can't believe that this is now 40 years old.
Amazing voice, music and woman!
I love this video. It's so simple yet so memorable
Wow thanks for the info I’m taking a trip down memory lane collecting classics songs my parents grew up on this was one of them.
Honestly this is one of the best tracks ever recorded! It's fecking sublime.l... OMG that Bass with that Voice and anyd the synth!!
A loud disco hit,late 70's.
Yes,a real disco classic.
This is one of my favorite songs. I remember cleaning the house, and listening to wktu radio station in new york. I loved it. It had a lot of energy. I was very little when I first heard it. I got hooked on the beat, and those vocals. The word is wow.
KTU no longer plays Amii Stewart.... probably did when they first switched to 103.5... but NOW... they just play CURRENT CRAP.
They still played old songs in 103 on saturday evenings. But that was a long time ago.😊@@CreesNostalgiaHut
