This was a lowkey mixing tutorial without being a mixing tutorial
This was outstanding young man.. You are absolutely right..
This was a great reminder and really gives perspective for the newer producers or engineers out there. When I got started about 20 years ago with Fruity Loops and Reason 2.5 there were hardly any videos out there because not even RUclips was poppin like that yet. So for a number of years I had to rely on reading message boards, occasionally asking questions on places like gear(spaces now) and a lot of guess work. Now it's the opposite where it can be information overload but I think it's solid advice because pretty much all the DAWs like Cubase, ProTools are vastly improved from back then and plugins are much better as well with VST 64-Bit and VST 3 without crashing. So now other than getting hints here or there it's better to dive it and work on projects.
Great vid. I also tend to forget that most of that stuff is done live and not painted in.
Agreed, Excellent advice Sir.
Remarkable. Brave. Well presented. Thank You 🙏 ~ stefan
Great advice, Great Video !👍💯
I learned how to play guitar by copying what I liked. I did the same with EDM / Production and I learned a lot too. He's right in that after a while, mixing happens as sort of a result of production. I'm constantly tweaking as I go until it's dialed in. I also think getting down your own personal workflow can help you from chasing your tail - and that for me was huge! Also being honest with yourself is really important too! Great advice Sumn! Now hit dem keys bitches!
Good info
I love chatting about this! I also think about how the software we use is sometimes non linear, so the settings for one channel or song may not work the same way on something with different frequency content and input volume. So that advice ends up being completely useless.
JUST. PLAY. And learn from your errors. That’s the magical part about music… It’s all play! 😅
My biggest issues with the tutorials is that I dont think I've even seen one that's for sample based production.
Like my sample,on my track, will have 3 instruments that require different approaches.
Well with a sample like that I would copy it as many times as necessary and then EQ to boost elements. Recently I had a sample in My tune but I wanted to increase the guitar part for the chorus so I copy the sample cut all the low frequency out, and some of the high and then boost the EQ right where the guitar sat. Next I added distortion to make it sit ontop of the mix however now I noticed it was a but to panned to the left. Next I loaded up a Guitar VST and played in a similar melody to the guitar in the sample and panned that to the right, and mix to ear until they mached. Finally I added a distorted pad sound to the right side to counter the rest of the sample on the left that was reduced but could still be heard. Thats My tutorial for you.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I need to learn that distortion stuff to make my bass pop out a bit more
@@PeteOnTheBeat You have to realize there is two elements to bass, 1 sub bass low end and the 2 the texture no sub bass but contains the higher uper low frequencys. Basically your making a bit of fuzz sound to accompany the sub bass.
Hi, I love your content and I was wondering if there`s a way to mastering in MPC beat like in studio one. But I`m able to open MPC beat in Studio One as a plugin, or should I just master in Studio One? ( Don`t tell no one about my trick.)😆
Sumn looking like he reversed age on yall ass today
Mixing without understanding EQ and stereo dynamics is bad, My old stuff used to be very mono and lacking in dynamics across the stereo field. Placement of sounds balanced between left and right speaker and EQ will make stuff sound clearer and there for seem louder. Just some things I think about when Mixing.
very dope message .. I myself got caught in the wave of watching a bunch of mixing tutorials and still was stuck on the what next now .. 🫡✌🏾
