- So if you haven’t heard, Netflix is cancelling a bunch of their animation projects such as Bone, Boons and Curses, Dino Daycare and Toil and Trouble. They also fired their animators and executives. This crap right here is why we need a #NewDeal4Animation! Because companies don’t know the possibilities you can do with this amazing medium. Hire new animators and treat them with respect and dignity. Treat. Them. Right. Netflix, do better.
Also, sorry if my Man Ray impression is garbage, I did the best I can.

It's because of a company called BlackRock.
Cocomelon should be fine, because it also aired on Universal Kids and Cartoonito. It made over $325 Million with no merchandising.

Well, if you fail hard enough you get tax breaks for "losses". If you write off shows already in the can, you might be able to gain more in tax write-offs than you lost in revenue from those assets thus increasing the bottom line for a short time. And with contractual income CEO's and other top execs. only care if they keep the stock/share-holder's board happy long enough to lock in their severance package. Anime's got its own problems. Lots of them.

Animation is in such a weird place right now. Animators are putting out such incredible, influential works of art, left and right. And yet, the lack of respect for the medium of animation from studio executives is more apparent than ever.

@@JameZayer yeah, I just know that’s how a lot of people watched the show. Hoped it comes back, even if it’s not soon, even if it’s several years from now, I’ll still watch it
Same. Hearing final space got canceled really bummed me out. Then when I heard that all traces of the show are gonna be destroyed, it made it even worse. Olan really got screwed there. It's not even his show anymore and now he doesn't have the rights to it even tho he literally created it! Feel really bad for the guy but he's very determined to reach any goals he sets for himself and doesn't let anything get in his way. I suppose only time will tell as to whether or not we get a proper ending for the show. 🤞
Wait why am I JUST now finding out that Final Space was canceled?! Woow.
@@AquaticManta Olan Rogers made a go fund me sort of thing to finish Final Space and quickly reached the money goal. So we just have to be patient. I dont know if its gonna be a movie tho
Netflix : Animation is the past , and it's only for kids.
Riot : Hold my Arcane
while they tried I still dont like Riot games or league
@@NoahGooder did you watch Arcane ?
@@Alice.59 not yet but i might soon, i have just been burned by the toxicity of League in the past. I would play temo because he was a furry character i identified with. And had fun playing as. but people didnt like my carefree attitude. it was to the point where i lost friendships because of it. I just functionally couldnt understand why everyone was so serious about a game. Yes it was a hard game and I think i only won a single time agenst the bots. But I was playing like I do in all games. Which was for the enjoyment factor.
@@NoahGooder there is tons of game far more toxic out there XD, but don't worry, the show have nothing to do with the game, I never liked the game, ( well except their cinematic ) and still arcane has now become my favorite show of all time !

Then come back here and thank me for pushing you to watch it and then go watch the rest of the show
you know what ? I can even bet you all you want that it would take less than 3min10 into the first episode for you to get addicted

@@Alice.59 started watching but internet died and when it came back i started watching beaststars and edens zero. i will give yo the fact that it it really nice looking and i might conintue it more later
Why did this happen? two reasons:
1) yes, animation is the go-to axing when cutting costs. This has something to do with stigmas against animation, yes, but there is another thing: animation is just easier to scrap. TV Shows can sometimes have massively expensive contracts with famous people and the sunk cost is just too high to want to cancel it. Look at Flash for example, with the absolute nightmarish fallout coming from it's lead actor, and WB still holding tight to it.
2) The specific reason of why Inside Job was cancelled: tax returns. I don¡'t know the details, but cancelling a project allows you to get some form of tax return on that sunk cost. Now, if they had let the show get the season 2 out the door, it would have made them far more money on the long run, yes, but right now, Netflix needs good numbers NOW, as in, right now, as they are having a good quarter for once in their life and they want to capitalize on this good numbers to attract investment. So getting those tax returns now was more worthwhile than the income this show would make in the long run. If you don't like it, welcome to capitalism.
The best animated shows are the ones I enjoyed as a child, and when rewatching them now, I realize how many adult jokes flew right over my head.
We live in a world where the customers know how to run Netflix better than Netflix
I agree.
Im always so confused by so many of the movies hollywood releases. I have no expertise in this craft, but I can tell you strait dont know where you are and are accountable to no one. You should have hired a random homeless person as a director, and forced them to direct immediately after bringing them in with no R&R. They would have outperformed you.
Artemis Fowl was so unbelivably bad I dont think they read the book.
Eragon was a hit book series idk what went down in that board room but someone got bribed.
So many examples..
The Patrick impersonation was so good I thought it was AI until I saw the date. Amazing job with voice acting!
i feel like people treat animated shows/movies like they’re only for kids, but in reality sometimes it’s animated so actions don’t seem as dark as it really would be in live action
When he said we want our animated shows to be like boss baby he deserved every beating he was gonna get
🤣🤣 YES!!!
Netflix:
we bought the rights for this extremely wanted anime, that Funimation and Crunchyroll couldn't get cause we payed more.
People: Sooo, you're going to make a second and third season after the first one goes well, right?
Netflix:......
People: You do that right?
At least with knights of sedoneya think that’s how you spell it? Funimation was able to pick it up. And make the movie that the studio wanted
Wdym "make" lmao Netflix doesn't make anime. Unless you mean for them to obtain the rights for later seasons. All animes on Netflix can be found online.
Netflix: also even though we didn’t decide to continue it thinking it wouldn’t give us any revenue we still didn’t want to give up rights
I couldn't watch beastars and "bastard" because of Netflix gross support of CP (the grossest version of "porn")
@@zizochemlali4639 Perhaps it could be a strategy of not caring if they have the properties for themselves, but rather they want to acquire as many properties as possible just so that other streaming platforms can't have them thereby making their competition a little weaker with every acquired property. This would also mean that Netflix would only have to pay enough money just to acquire the property and not any more to actually utilize it beyond the bare minimum.
Literally me asking Netflix to make Cuphead shows continue
Netflix in a nutshell: "Experimental live action over anime."
I’ll never not be upset about the Dark Crystal show getting canceled too. Technically not animation, but puppeteering is probably seen as only for kids too by companies.
Sad how many animations with new and/or interesting ideas are dropped by big companies because it isn't the same as other popular animations that go on for too long.
It's like they are afraid to take a chance and innovate new franchises that could BE the next big thing
it's kinda sad
@@iceonthesun8880 COULD be but if it's not then it's considered a loss to them it's really sad
i dont get why a bunch of fired animators wouldn't just get together and make their own thing without working for netflix
They need a kickstarter, and we should support them
Well it requires a lot of money as well, and on top of that, it also requires them to have a platform to sell it, like sure you can hate Netflix and RUclips, but a lot of the content we enjoy there would not have a chance of getting a 10th of the viewership in an indie platform, even if it was better quality
While animation is of course a vital part of the process, there is much more to creating a show, which is why it is probably nigh impossible to do it on a professional level without a studio.
@@thrushhattstewohlgern5006 and that's why studios are so cocky about what they want. They know not everyone will be successful with their work. It disturbs my soul to the max. So we all need to support every animated show, or movie that is home made.
With what money?
*All the Netflix budget goes to Adam Sandler*
Accurate. If they cancel Dragon Prince I’m going to go berserk!
@PuffyHairedGhost Good. They dodged a bullet.
@PuffyHairedGhost Honestly, after what happened with Warner Discovery and Cartoon Network, I am not going to feel relived until the actual episodes are out.
And then I am not going to feel relived even after they're out cause they might dissapear any day.
@PuffyHairedGhost If it can happen to one animation giant, it can happen to any of them.
Sure, right now it seems unthinkable that a big chunck of Neflix's catalogue becomes lost media.
But it was also unthinkable for it to happen to cartoon network only a few weeks ago.

This is why I like the 90s. Even the “kids” shows had darker and more subversive content.
Animation is just takes time and hard work to make. Corporations don’t like that. They like stuff thats cheap, quick, and easy to make.
Their whole thought process is “Well they’ll watch it anyways, so lets just keep the best ones”
The state of animation in general is a shitshow, companies dropping projects and firing talented animators, removing shows from existence, what a time to he alive, I hope they suffer the consequences of their actions
You think Netflix would have learned from seeing the anime/cartoon world thrive. But nope. They decided to just look the other way.
The cherry on top of the cake is the fact that Netflix is metaphorically getting tossed around for their stupid behavior.
Sure guys, just give animation fans more reasons to stick with Disney Plus instead of you! That'll lead to market growth!
Hulu is basically a safe house for shows like Uncle Grandpa and OK KO that have been taken off HBO Max
Is regular show still there?
I heard close enough got cancelled and got taken off the streaming service
What sucks about Hulu is that they don’t have the movie of regular show but have all 8 seasons
@@joscar062 yeah they still got it
This was just recommended to me, and given how they also just did this to inside job, I think it fits as a recommendation now.
walt disney once said "we dont make movie to make money, we make money to make more movie"
netflix: no i dont think i will.
animation is not an easy job, imagine drawing frame by frame of drawing to try to create a unique story with a universe inside it all. And still having a team that spent hours designing and writing what's going to happen in each episode. All the hard work done to get it across to an audience that really liked the concept. This is all being thrown away because "cartoons are for kids" and "we want cartoons like big mouth and boss baby". There are many cartoons that teach us many things and sometimes become a safe haven for things that happen in real life. I plan to create a special video between October and December (where it's all drawn as I don't have all the skills to make a 20 minute animation yet) and watching this video makes me afraid of the result
A lot of animation, even 2D, is done by computers these days. It still takes a lot of work by the animation team, but less of it is hand drawn these days.
@@evilsharkey8954 Yes... I wish i could have a pc to get a better quality for my animations

@@ChaosRayZero thanks :D most of my animations are done in my cellphone and i think they could have a better quality (Rip my pc). And one thing that makes me a little sad is that some friends I know say that my art style is too "simple"
@@OceanBeing246 Art is in the eye of the beholder. A simplistic style isn't bad if you can keep it consistent, improve as you go, and keep your audience hooked with the stories you tell.
If cable television has become obsolete and streaming services are treating the animation industry like garbage, then what could be the next place for the animation art form to go from here? Possibly RUclips?
With RUclips’s standards of "if you don’t say the F word, you’re for kids" but also the double standards of "we accept adds and music clips where characters do sexual things but we strike you if you say something too vulgar"… yeah, doesn’t seem too great of a place either.
Tbh ur better off cranking animations out solo cultivate an audience maybe start up a pilot and direct them to a Patreon if they wanna support u since RUclips literally does nobody any real justice if they step out of the norm 🙄🙄 as an aspiring animator I just wanna make art and get paid for it if people like it enough but the policies here make it damn near impossible to take off (not to mention the cancerous algorithm)
