Man I spent the entirety of last night downloading the launcher and when I pulled it up this morning they were doing maintenance. Then just as I'm about to leave for work the servers come online again...Can't wait to get started again tonight now that I know what I'm doing!
A really handy little trick for manual piloting is the q hotkey. While the tactical overlay is active you can press q to define a point in space to fly to. First you decide on range and angle in the plane and lock it in with a mouse click, then you adjust the elevation with another click and your ship will fly to that exact spot.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am just returning to the game after being away for 8 years and I was so lost on the overview. You are freaking awesome at explaining this.
This was excellent - started recently thanks to this series. I was in chat and someone mentioned they were there because of your series, and it was followed by a lot of "quill here as well" "me too!" "same!" etc. Another great video sir ;) o7
Another awesome Eve tutorial from Quill. Me and my corp mates have been using our own overview setup for years, but the Z S overview actually looks really good. Will check it out.
Thanks for the video, I been in eve long but never knew about Overview, it now makes my life easier so see You in the game and good work You did with the videos even older ones can still learn bits.
Perhaps explain hacking a bit more than just 4,3,3,4,2,1,spikiey thing :-) Also how can you join or create your own Corp, good noob Corps, friendly ones... Maybe even a Post noob tutorial?
Thanks for all these great videos, I been thinking recently of trying it out again (I have on and off for years just never bothered). I had 6+ years ago but was so lost. Used your signup link to get started, glad my 2011 PC build is still viable to run this with no issues so far.
This game looks hella fun, lots of tactical approaches along with being part of a corporation and investing in markets really peaks my interest. Sad thing is, however, I would have to play on a 8 year old Laptop that has hardly any life left in it, and I cant even get past the character customization screen 😥 Love your videos, very informative, looking forward to when I can finally get my dream PC and be able to play this!!! Cheers mate!
I probably should be studying on my free time. But no! I'm here again, finishing the sixth video in less than 24 hours. I think a need a break right now, in New Eden of course. Real life is for Loooosers! Lmao! GREAT video once again, quill18. You are amazing.
Hi I followed your suggestion, installed all the pacs, tabs and the information is awesome. But for some reason my own drones (and everyone else) are suddenly grey to me. How can I make my drones green again?
Have not played Eve since 09, then got back on and couldn't remember anything. These tutorials are a great help. Could you do one on Blue prints and manufacturing? I was specialized in that.
No doubt, I've played off and on since 2003 and didn't know people made overview presets. That's immensely handy because you really have to have a lot of experience with the game to tweak your own to be remotely useful.
I truly do not see what everyone's problem is with the default overview. To me it is much easier and more intuitive to use. I know I must be wrong because everyone says the same thing you do, but I don't get it. the Z-S overview seems to only remove the mining tab, which I use a lot, and create useless duplicate tabs. Could someone please explain how that is helpful to them? What obvious thing am I missing
I'd love to hear your take on approaching PvP combat. Not offensively, but how should you handle it if you get attacked while mining/exploring in low-sec/null-sec/wormhole space? Thanks so much for doing these!
Usually if you are spotted and make 1 bad move you are likely to face a spiderweb. Meaning they dont go at you outright, but lay a trap where they think you warp next. There really isnt much getting out of those. 10-20 sec and you can say bye bye to your ship
so after watching all the way to here i just found out im guessing in my version of the game YOU CAN NOT PLAY WITH JUST THE MOUSE!!!! right click does NOTHING!!! #HELP
Same I just booted my first character up. He was born in 2006 lol. Being free to play is a selling point though coming back I have a lot of skill points already and i am not allowed to train anymore. Also kinda confused how some stuff works but at the very least the tutorial missions and introduction stuff is much more accessible now.
I tried playing again about a year ago, I have a character from 2007 with about 26mil SP.. being an alpha clone is pretty disheartening not being able to use all my cool toys for free. As I understand it they have relaxed some of the restrictions since then, but if I go back I'm gonna have to pay a sub to not feel like I'm stuck in the kiddie pool.
IIRC there have been tutorials out there for ages on how to set your overview up properly. I believe Goon had one on their public-facing website? Presets vastly simplify that process tho.
Thanks for the tutorial. But that part with mining was clipped somehow. Do you sell all metal in the market? How did crafting work? Perhaps I have to install EvE and check it out. I have tested EvE before, but then I was a total loss in that game. You gave good tips and now I think I could start the game and do things.
My info may be a bit out of date, but.. Implants are clone-specific buffs, either to learning skills or to various aspects of ship performance (missiles, drones, etc.) I say clone specific because if you get podded or swap to a jump clone you lose them.
Quill I am a new player and found your series and it is super helpful. Could you also cover things like Survey probes, Ship insurance, clones. As a new player I have been destroyed twice trying to do what you did in a wormhole. And it is getting a little expensive for me. so is Insurance worth it? I have many more topics but those are top 3. Purpose of survey probes???? Insurance???? Clones???? help please
You should definately get a platinum insurance if you take a ship without cloak into W-Space to do exploration. I believe Survey Probes are used in moon mining. As for clones, check wiki.eveuniversity.org/Clones
Z-S Overview How resource heavy is it though? I'm already struggling to maintain 60 FPS. This fancy formatting and filtering seems like a lot of CPU busy work.
So I was running around killing rats for the agents and a guy gave me an outfitted FF :)BTW Can you do a tutorial on crafting? The ones I looked at were not very good.
It's so easy to hop in again, money is so easy to make, and thing's aren't expensive as they used to be, and you can go pretty far on just the alpha account
To answer the basic version of your question: Yes, the game is still as alive and active as it's ever been, and they keep adding more stuff to do. And since they rolled out f2p you can do it out for free, so all it costs you is a bit of time. To answer the deeper question, it really depends on two factors. 1) What do you want out of the game? The nullsec wars will go on forever and you really don't need a lot of skill points to get involved, but there's a lot more to the game. It's about finding your niche. Try everything; you can do most anything in the game (to some degree) on an alpha clone with relatively limited skill points and experience. I started playing EVE because I wanted to be part of the big wars, but later discovered that I kinda hate that and would much rather be trawling lowsec for dedspace sites and wormholes with a few friends. Most of that stuff wasn't even in the game when I started playing. 2) Who are you playing with? Sure, get started, do some tutorials, get a feel for the game. But pretty soon you're going to want to find a corp. Like most MMOs EVE at its core is a social, cooperative game. You can dip your toes in a lot of pools by yourself, but you really need a group if you want to head for the deep end. There are newbie-friendly corps doing everything in the game, even nullsec stuff, and they will offer instruction, guidance, and advice.
still missing almost the entirety of the content for episode 3, you got up to where you got the venture, then lost power, never finished it. atleast not here on youtube :(
Eve is a game where if you haven't played before you will be so heavily out matched its pointless playing. Requires so much time and attention its more of a job.
Nope, there's significant and important roles for people of any experience level. You can also play at your own pace and have a lot of fun. Not sure where this "Spreadsheet job game lul" meme came frome.
do you think its helpful if you try to talk down the game quill tries to promote and make tutorials for? every half decent eve player knows you can play the game in very different ways. u can log on every day for 2h and do some small scale pvp doin some 1v1 or doin abyssal sites whenever u want. its an mmo and need as much attention as any other mmo. if u are outmached all the time u either do something wrong or you should get some friends.

The meme came from 2 reviews basically, as well as the wider community (where its a joke). But yea, this may be the case if you try going at it alone and with no guidance. If you get into a decent, newbie friendly corp and have a few things explained as you go, its really not an issue.
I just started Eve because of your tutorials and I'm absolutely in love with the game. Thank you for showing this game off.
Same initially thought Eve would be hard to learn but with quill's tutorials its pretty easy to understand the basics

Damn you Quill! I haven't played EVE for about 10 years, and I just started up again today.
I literally just started up again after not playing since 2009! I am right with you!
Same here! Has Quill set up his youtuber corp yet?
Dangit...he's making me want to play again aswell.
I went back yesterday after 10 years. My toon has accumulated a literal mountain of skill points and equipment by sitting around for a decade!

A basic market tutorial would probably be helpful -- how not to get screwed, how to find the best price, etc.
