May I just say KBash, I loved that extra final part at the end, hearing you go unscripted and just laying out your thoughts on the vids was really nice. I hope you keep up the good work, been watching for about 2 years now and you've only improved over time.
I played the original Valkyrie Profile a lifetime ago, when I was maybe 14 or 15. I was amazed by the art style, Final Fantasy was the only other game I'd ever played in the genre, and I expected a similar experience. It very much was not. The times when you float above the world listening to the final moments in your next playable characters life were absolutely amazing, and my favorite part of the game. This was a game that tho I couldn't fully understand at that age, I knew it unlike anything I had seen before (and even then i knew) or would ever see again. It stayed with me as I grew up, even tho I never got the best ending (no Google back then) nor did I ever play any of the other games in the series. Honestly I didn't know there was more than 2 til this video. Still, seeing this video pop up made me stop midstep and go "no shit, really!?" I'm glad I watched this, and I'm glad to see someone else viewed it in the same kind of light I did. I really appreciate this video, the nostalgia alone was worth it.
I just finished Elysium yesterday (Steam-shared by a friend who never bothered finishing it). Played on Hard. Died three times the entire playthrough because I was too busy sighing waiting for the combat to click. It's like a really dumbed-down version of Tales of Arise's combat. Now I'm wondering if SE made this game as a nail in this franchise's coffin -- they're tired of seeing people asking for more VP games so they made one that they know won't get good reception on purpose.
About the valkirie profile 2 enjenjar: it's not true that once You libérate them You only have the items to remember. They Will appear on The diferent cities or paths of the world and almost all of them have short stories about how their lives have been going since You liberated them. All of their stories have "two acts" meaning that, depending on when You libérate them, maby there is no time to enconter with them a second time si they tell You what happens with their ambitions of making a pigfarm or whatever. Oh, and if You talk with them the two times needed to know their full stories, usually in two separate parts of the world and with a few chapters inbetween, then they Will gift You with some of the most broken ítems i'm the Game so... That is that
The only disagreement I have here is that final line "Phone games are games". No sir, they are not. If a developer has the option to put their software on a console or PC, but willfully chooses to put it on a smart phone instead, they are choosing to accept the baggage that comes with all of the gacha kid-casinos and shovelware schlock. A self-respecting game developer should avoid smart phones as a platform BECAUSE of the bad reputation they has garnered. The moment I hear some hot new title is a mobile exclusive - I don't play it. Because the reputation of the platform speaks for itself and tells me that it will be crammed full of eShops and RNG.
I really appreciated the reflection you included here. It’s cool getting to hear you speak a bit more plainly about the games outside of the show framework, I hope you consider it for other later on down the line. Also this series coverage in particular was very enjoyable to watch, you convinced me to give Valkyrie Profile a shot and it’s become a personal favorite for me, so thanks for that lol.
For only 900 Materialize Gems you can have Arngrim tragically disembowl himself with his own knife, condemning his disabled brother to solitude and poverty, and join your squad! Daily log-in bonus: Flower cosmetic item, hand-picked by Belanus with love for his grieving slave maid.
VP2 is my second favorite game after Chrono Cross. Played everything down to Anatomia and Covenant but man this game was quite the Soul Crush. Makes Anatomia look like gold.
Have to say, love the added segment at the end. Was neat to see your general thoughts and perspective. The thoughts on Anatomia are basically what I imagined it might be and makes perfect overall sense.
VP is a great game. The time countdown kind of sucks. I wish you could disable it somehow in sequent playthroughs. VP 2 is also great game. I really like the fact that you can break parts of enemies. However, breaking specific parts is almost impossible and some enemies have about 8+ parts that can be broken. Good luck if you are a completionist or perfectionist. Also, why cant soul crushes break parts of the enemy? The difficulty spikes in game can be brutal. Bought Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume as soon as it came out and it didn't disappoint. Got every single ending and items in game.
I wonder what Kbash would think of Koudelka and the Shadow Hearts trilogy. I reckon that could be a fun experience that matches his current format. Assuming he hasnt already played them.
Damn I got excited for a second there but then I realised I've watched all of these with my brother already haha Let the anticipation for your next video resume!
If I had a nickel for every-time Kbash covered a JRPG franchise with convoluted game-play mechanics consisting of 4 games that are heavily inspired by Norse mythology...i'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird it happend twice.
Valkyrie profile is my favorite rpg series. The gatcha game actually was a fantastic game. I wasn't happy about it being a freemium app game but the story was awesome and the battles were fantastic. It also helped square to see if there was actual interest in reviving the series etc. Which worked!
The seraphic gate in all tri-ace games is for the fans that enjoy the combat enough to break the systems and beat the hardest challenge you can get. It's not necessary to experience the game, but as someone who grew up with minimum amount of games to play per year, I always appreciated those end game style of dungeons. Not to mention I just like to nerd out and delve deep into systems lol
Damn, it's true im sold on the first Valkyrie Profile. I spent the last 20 mins looking for a copy that wouldn't BREAK MY FUCKING POCKETS! To no avail unfortunately. Excellent review I hope you review the Star Ocean series because its one that needs more attention as well.
I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to even touch Elysium due to the lack of tri-Ace's involvement. I can only guess it's not called "Profile" because I bet when Square bought Enix, one of the stipulations was that the developers of the IPs they bought had to be kept involved in their series. "Well it's not Valkyrie PROFILE, so we can get some low budget, third-rate developer to make it now!". Elysium is not a Valkyrie Profile game to me. Also, you cannot convince me that Exist Archive didn't start out as Valkyrie Profile 3, but was forced to change with an extremely limited budget after Square Enix killed it.
I have a question, I love Odin Sphere on the PS2 and the PS4 remake, would people recommend this series to me based on that alone, cause I am picky af with jrpg's sometimes
the problem with the political lens is that you still fall in to the pit of talking politics from american culture war paradigm. (as almost 99% of the reviewers)
commenting for supercut algorithm boost. oh having this ending section where you look back at your time reviewing each game i like listening to your thoughts please keep adding these these for the supercuts gives us another reason to watch again even if we have watched the originals
Really appreciate you name dropping thorhighheels a bit at the end, really feel like you two could have some great conversations if you haven't been personally acquainted already.
I never expected you to talk about Anatomia at all really, it is a decent game and i liked it to a degree but not enough to kick my usual go to mobile game, FGO out of my phone. Funnily enough i expect Valkyrie Anatomia to last a bit longer, not as long as Brave Frontier (almost 10 years) but longer than the current lifetime though i have my thoughts about the "sacred" part. You see in the current gaming age i hold nothing sacred, cashgrabs are what is to be expected in both mobile and the gaming world at large but it does not mean i find the old games unfun, there are charms of the old but i basically expect some if not all of them to be defiled in the future
I really liked the heart to heart at the end. I don't know if this is purposeful but it reminds me of thespoonyone in his better years when he'd do something similar.
Anatomia wasn't very good, I say as somebody with money spent on it. It had the combat of the series, but that was about it. It was heavy on the numbers in a bad way with power creep and grind out the ass. I don't even think the story ended up relevant at all, even in the game there were variants of the same characters with different names and I don't know if they ever explained it. The Star Ocean phone game was far, far better and even got a good story (in its 2.0 update which global died before reaching) and had very good combat that, while it had power creep, was fully playable with old ass characters. I chalk that up to anatomia being some other random team and anamnesis being from tri-Ace directly. The Seraphic gates in the original games are very worth playing if you didn't do them. I know the video didn't touch on em but they are very fun
I was there for the release of VP 1 and VP 2 so since I didn't play one one after another and had years of down time and space. VP2 didn't like a slog and it was one of my fave RPG releases on PS2 next to Dragon Quest 8 and Star Ocean 3. But I can understand the thoughts and opinions given while playing VP2 for work related purposes and playing directly after the first installment.
1:35:44 being someone whos entry to this series, i find Valkyrie Elysium to be fun and many others agree tbh but i can see why the fans are butt hurt because of it lol (but not really)
Well, I didn't think someone would have those specific issues with VP2 but, well, that's just me. VP1 is one of my favorite PS1 RPGs, but VP2 is my favorite PS2 RPG, and is the one I prefer. And it's one of the few RPGs where I could legitimately have said grinding was fun.
Also, I think people like VP2 because of Dipan's Lore. At least I, when I played VP1 Dipan intrigued me a lot, especially because it got very especial treatment but left a lot of questions in the air, so Alicia's/Silmeria's side of the story is just that juicy lore that one may have been missing and yearning. Then add to that Lezard which I think was a very well liked character from VP1 and then the twists, the alternative timeline, some Lenneth (best character in the first one and of the franchise? At least the most iconic) fanservice, big stakes, Hrist turning from the worst ugliest character in VP1 to the best waifu material in VP2, the recycle of Arngrim, etc, at least, I love it. I think VP2 is the best fan service VP1 fans could've gotten lmao
anatomia is good because I manage to see wylfred fanservice. Dudes got muscles lmao but I have to agree with you with the aspect of gacha games. It is a cash grab (I mean, I fell into it.) THE BIGGEST LETDOWN ever in ANY GACHA GAME is the developers not preserving their files. I wanted anatomia to be offline after they close down the servers. That way, developers can actually maintenance and update the game regularly. Idk, I wanted anatomia to succeed. However, Square Enix have a record of having many gacha games being shut down due to their greediness and crappy business plans.
So it’s pronounced different ways Valkyrie I mean, I always heard it as well as Valkyrie(Val-ko-re) I’ve literally heard a lot of people pronounced it repeatedly, but I never heard the I guess the original pronunciation. The name Valkyrie is technically a Viking language that makes sense it sounds different in English . cause always different pronunciations in different countries and different cultures.🤯🤯🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
The original Loki is actually bisexual. Can shape shift into any form mostly animals and he also a furry since he got plowed by a horse, he really loves animals a little too much, but he has like a giant snake child( Joumenjoner ) and a wolf child(Fenrir) from a giant wife. I’m just gonna assume he’s shape shifted into the animals some freaky time with his giant wife.😅😅😅😅😅 He also had Sleipnir that became Odin’s horse with multiple legs.😅😅😅😅😅😱😱😱😱😅😅😅😅
I’m finally giving Valkyrie Profile a shot. About 8 hours in and I can say this is the coolest mix of action and turn based rpg I’ve played. Trust Tri Ace to nail the combat, but the combat is really interesting. I f**k with this heavy so far
I honestly played through the entirety of VP2 without grinding or engaging meaningfully with the dais system, lets just say i had a GREAT time and a lot of FUN save stating four hundred times until the AI bugged or decided to change the insta kill move to an almost insta kill move
Imagine spending a lifetime on a broken world of apathy, treachery, and incredulous pain. Bereft of examples of objective purpose and meaning in your life. Your death inevitably at the hands of cruelest whimsy or human avarice... And at the last moments of you thinking you might have meaning in the visage of a person telling you your soul still has purpose... It was to beat a button mashing minigame because the gods are lazy and bored.
Okay I have to disagree with your point about VP2 not holding your hand being a bad thing. Like the game is 10X better when you don't know what you are doing and fumbling around. It took me a long time to finish and that makes it the best game I have ever played. Ultimately because its a game that doesn't hold your hand and expects you to figure it out over time. And since it released in the age before game guides it ended up being really entertaining discovering things I didn't know. Like the fact you could kill the Zombie Dragon faster by breaking the solar gems. It just felt like more of a boss fight when you didn't do it. Also grinding wasn't an issue mainly because while the game gives you options to avoid combat, you should be fighting almost everything you see anyway to ensure steady progress. I think you are correct about the skill system but counterpoint to that, the skill system was just extra utility on top of what you already had. I played majority of the game barely utilizing it beyond giving everyone fists of Iron and toughness. Besides the only place I really needed to grind was the endgame dungeon the Seraphic gate.
Covenant of the Plume is the best game for one reason: It has Lieselotte. Best character ever. Compelling backstory, interesting story presence, great personality,
I think a large swathe of the population has been purposefully misled about what constitutes "politics". Does your story have conflict? Then I bet there's a political discussion being had.
For the record, you do get more than just the items left over. When you release a character, they will go to certain points in the game's map and villages. And if you talk to them, they will give you items that usually ends with you getting stat augments.
The moment you brought up ninja gaiden-esc moves in elysium it made me remember something…Soliel the devs behind the game are Ex-Team ninja devs so the fact the game is the way it is explains alot. I mean there action game devs (Heavy emphasis on action) who aren’t necessarily known for there writing. Unfortunately they were given an IP in a genre they dont have alot of experience with so im guessing they just went with what they know and back when covid hit and the rush didnt help anyone. The story at best would have been decent and the combat in terms of weapons would be balanced properly rather than how they came out. Valkyrie profile is just not the kind of series to be given to a studio like this. Not blaming the studio at all since they clearly had to work with limited resources but square could have at least chosen a studio that had experience with RPG. Although if i think about it at this time i think star ocean 6 was in development so that’s probably why tri ace wasn’t able to work on it. Still at least Elysium isn’t offensive in terms of an action game. Its fine the way it is bit could ve been better.
My problem with VE is that there is some semblance of sacrifice in the games previously to get a proper ending and you feel it on the way there. VE, you just collect flowers and then it's a single choice at the end of the game. It just seems like a slap in the face of the fans. I feel like, other than questioning the gods, the sacrifice is the real gimmick behind the games. TL:DR VE is too slow and bare bones to be a true VP game.
professor i missed the point of the class... its a missseat by me... i thought i thought this is valkyrie edelweiss me looord! meeee looooord! forgive me! NOOOOO DONT BRING THE PADDLE! MEEEELOOOOOAAAD! OH NO!
imagine there are people invested in THIS type of a universe and WE are always playing the rehash... and INSTEAD of teaching our kids that this is modern literature like tolkin... we just say REMAKE and its a done! ARE WE STUPID? or do we just love the german classics SO much? righ? and then you start thinking... education... maybe important... or not... idk... who cares... what happened... did they throw us out... why did we stop?
VP feels like the quintessential metaphor for every franchise 90s kids loved. 1st one - classic, genius, infinitely replayable, fun, compact. 2nd one - improved but bloated and changed for the sake of change and "updated". A solid entry if a little worrying. DS coom - oh no they're milking it for cash, they don't care about this series anymore. Wait hold up it's got some redeeming elements, we can take this as a sign there's still life in the series! Elysium - okay Devil May Souls is wearing the skin of a game I loved 25 years ago??? Anatomia - it's dead. This is wringing the last dollars out of a stone.
It's Friday night, I have no date. Let's rock *proceeds to watch 2 hours of K Bash*
Wait yall get dates
Hope you got a date the following Friday!
Did you get a date last week?
May I just say KBash, I loved that extra final part at the end, hearing you go unscripted and just laying out your thoughts on the vids was really nice. I hope you keep up the good work, been watching for about 2 years now and you've only improved over time.
You forgot about Lightning Returns.

I appreciate the use of the suikoden soul eater rune sound effect.
10/10 greatest game ever made.
About the valkirie profile 2 enjenjar: it's not true that once You libérate them You only have the items to remember. yeah it seems like he also didnt understand the combat, it wasnt difficult, i beat it at 12, when i was mostly blind
Waiting for Kbash to do Shin Megami Tensei
Oh my gosh, first Majuular with Skies of Arcadia, and now KBash with Valkyrie Profile, today totally is a great day!
You made me buy Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on PS5. GREAT video!!

Damn I got excited for a second there but then I realised I've watched all of these with my brother already haha Let the anticipation for your next video resume!
Check out the new content at the end, it's basically as good as an extra video 👌
@mellytan Thanks! I didn't realise that, will check it out
valkyrie profile 1 has to be one of the most beautiful games i have ever seen
If I had a nickel for every-time Kbash covered a JRPG franchise with convoluted game-play mechanics consisting of 4 games that are heavily inspired by Norse mythology...i'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird it happend twice.

You've got a monopoly on valkyrie profile reviews with this video. This is the only one people need to see about this series
If you have a PS4 or PS5 you can get a digital version of VP:Lenneth for ~$20.
I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to even touch Elysium due to the lack of tri-Ace's involvement. YES YES YES!
It's good I think you'll like it
we missed out on beautiful art... why are stretched pixels not the sexy thing...
the problem with the political lens is that you still fall in to the pit of talking politics from american culture war paradigm. (as almost 99% of the reviewers)
Just a comment.
Can't wait to play Valkyrie Profile 1 again since it's on the ps store.
commenting for supercut algorithm boost. oh having this ending section where you look back at your time reviewing each game i like listening to your thoughts please keep adding these these for the supercuts gives us another reason to watch again even if we have watched the originals
Vp2:silmeria is by FAR my favorote game of all time its such a gem ❤
I am still in love with Alicia and Silmeria, even after all this years. She was a cinnamon roll too good for Midgard, too pure.
"Inter-party grabass time" perfectly explains what I love about Persona
SAY THE LINE BART! I can't believe I've done this!
Really appreciate you name dropping thorhighheels a bit at the end, really feel like you two could have some great conversations if you haven't been personally acquainted already.
I.e. pls collab
Thank you Kbash! Look forward to another year of your videos
Forgot to log in to this account for like a year, came back and find you've uploaded this. Heeeeeeell yeah, great thing to return to!

That reflection section with KBASH being himself, I want to be the cool.
This had to happen. It just HAD TO BE a thing! :3
The final part was the best part of a video filled with good parts.
I've already seen the individual episodes, but I'm leaving this running, liking, doing the engagement because you deserve the world dude
1:49:00 Based KBASH?

1:43:31 this is false, i went into this gsme blind and didnt have this problem and many others dont agree with you lol.
Mobile gambling games are indicative of the very sort of corruption and abuse of power that brought about the world end in Valkyrie series
I got the bad ending in VP1, I didn't feel my party members were strong enough so I didn't send them. I hate Freya.
Oh so it's actually pronounced "Valkyrfkdlsdjklfjdkllsdflkjdsjiosjiod"?
Covenant of the Plume is the best game for one reason:
It has Lieselotte.
Best character ever. Compelling backstory, interesting story presence, great personality,
I think a large swathe of the population has been purposefully misled about what constitutes "politics". Does your story have conflict? Then I bet there's a political discussion being had.
Don't mind me, leaving this on while I'm playing MTG and commenting to feed Al'go.
Just got a p1 ... why the fuck is this game 250 bucks plus ... why.😢😢
ok i was overprotective of her... sorry... you know! you know!
The unscripted ending is insanely good. I wish you were more popular, Kevin.
1:07:34 this game doesn't deserve this much hate.
I know the difference between stalagtites and stalagmites
1:34:25 bro low key took a shot at all of tje Dragonball gacha games lol.
No sippy cup and snacks...but I do have a GnT and a J..... seems close enough
Quick question kbash, are you ever happy with yourself?
I remember Covent of the plume honestly that game was too hard for my 11 year old self
For the record, you do get more than just the items left over. When you release a character, they will go to certain points in the game's map and villages. And if you talk to them, they will give you items that usually ends with you getting stat augments.
You need to impress Professor Oa...I mean, Lady Freyia
Is it just me or does this guy sound like a nerdy Joe Rogan?
Girl, what about Exist Archive, though?!
I am entirely here for more political analysis
"i love homework" sent me lmfao
Did you forget vp white knight chronicles
Watched each individual video and on Odin's name I'll do it again 😤
Waiting on the mega man battle network review
Stalactite is the one you pay, stalagmite is the one with tiny arachnids on it.

"It's been too long since Ive played an overly complex JRPG and something depressing"
*Dont worry, you overshot and did it again the very next upload*
47:01 Fire Emblem Engage, probably
Your video was brought to me by the color blue
My problem with VE is that there is some semblance of sacrifice in the games previously to get a proper ending and you feel it on the way there. VE, you just collect flowers and then it's a single choice at the end of the game. It just seems like a slap in the face of the fans. I feel like, other than questioning the gods, the sacrifice is the real gimmick behind the games.
TL:DR VE is too slow and bare bones to be a true VP game.
It appears that I too am demented K Bash..😈😏🤣😅
Seeing Lezard angers me to this day. 😤
You're doing the Lord's work, Bash.
Coom is pretty good.
professor i missed the point of the class... its a missseat by me... i thought i thought this is valkyrie edelweiss me looord! meeee looooord!
Elysium is my first game, now I am not going to waste my money on this franchise
ok ok, yes, you can!
petition for hd 2d remake of vp1
also also.....star ocean. GLHF!
