CTA's 7000 Series 'L' Cars Begin In-Service Testing on the Skokie Swift (Yellow Line)

- CTA's next generation of rail cars enter in service testing for the first time on the Yellow Line, otherwise known as the Skokie Swift. Every new rail car series does 1 year of in service testing on all rail lines to ensure they fit accordingly across the whole 'L' system and in all weather conditions.
CTA's 7000 Series cars, being built by CRRC Sifang America, will replace CTA's 2600 Series cars which were built between 1981-87 and are currently the oldest in the fleet. The base order for the cars is 400 cars. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to run on the Blue, Brown, and Orange Lines.

2:43 the Yellow Line is a great line to put the cars through their paces cuz they can just floor it.
Great content, C.T.! I live just a couple of blocks from the Oakton Station and I pretty much don't have to leave the house to enjoy these great rides along the EL. And not just on the Swift, but on all the content you've posted of the EL as well as on C.T.A.'s RUclips page. Thank you much! ;-)
Gotta love the Skokie Line. If we wanna see the full capability of the 7Ks, no better line than this
I'm kinda surprised that the Skokie isn't being run exclusively with 7000s during in-service testing on this line. After all, there are eight prototype 7000 series cars. Since the Skokie is so short and runs only two car trains, the number of 7000s on the property would seem to be enough to IST exclusive of the 5000s until the 7000s are moved to another line for testing. Just sayin'............
TheChicagoL: I think there will always be a wide sort of series cars used on this line.
I miss the catenaries, but I know that was not practical. It makes sense you can run any train anywhere.
Soon it the Brown, Green and Orange line to test the CTA 7000 series Trians in services

You'd think for a system known for their grade crossings, would have better horns than a "Boop" Whistle. Even SEPTA Subway Trains and Trolley Cars have Railroad-Grade Horns. Though I must admit, the Boop Whistle fits the size of the train cars lol. Nice Video!

I see they have the same horn as the other series cars. I'd like to see the horns that are like the South Shore Line in these cars or the horns used in the NORRISTOWN-69TH STREET DARBY L LINE in suburban Philadelphia. I wonder if Skokie residents would voice opposition to hearing such horns.
They’ll go into NIMBY Mode. That’s why they have the Beeper horns.
@@videonut1988 Skokie residents would probably voice strong opposition to the horns like the South Shore Cars and the Norristown- 69th Street cars both sound identical. Also residents in Albany Park would object to hearing these horns at the street crossings on the Brown Line I would imagine the line being so flanked between the many buildings. The South Shore and Norristown-69TH STREET DARBY horns would be probably startling to say the least on the Brown Line( Ravenswood).
Curtis Livingston: That's what I figured. I also was told these horns on the South Shore Line and the NORRUSTOWN-69TH STREET DARBY LINE would blast out the windows of many buildings alongside the L or shatter them.
Why do the signs have lines rolling through themm?
The LEDs have a low refresh rate and aren't that bright. They're some really cheap signs...
why are the trains on this line so short?
The line is short for one. Two, Dempster Skokie Terminal is the only Yellow station to can only berth Two railcars.

@@ChicagolandTransit I wish they introduce super modern looking trains. Had high hopes for NYC Subway but they just got a small design change externally
Modern design and plain nonsense with no character are two different things. We keep traditional design and modernize it because there's nothing about that's broken and it's what works best with our unique transit system to provide fast reliable service.
@@ChicagolandTransit New York City has so many modern buildings. The new buses are so modern but the subway looks a little dated. WIsh they fix up the country and make it world class again
Because stainless steel has a longer lasting quality than composite panel trains. Corrosion is less of an issue with stainless steel bodies... and simply, we only care about brute quality rather than looks.
Where are the security guard and police to protect the people. Ask the police chief and the mayor?

Please add more security guard under cover to protect the passenger. There are some bad people with dangerous tools attack passenger. Be alert ⚠️ - Blue Line.
@@francisyau7545 you can call 1-888 YOUR-CTA and tell them that.
@francisyau7545: It takes over an hour or so for police response probably when you call 911 from your cell phone you reach the Philippines since they have GPS and it seems like 95% of our call centers are in that country 24-7! Some people have even been getting cut off from 911 or even getting a fast no circuit busy signal.
@@ChicagolandTransit : 911 calls will get you nowhere since you may get disconnected or even get a fast busy signal indicating no circuits available. You'll probably reach the Philippines when you call 911 from your cell phone since there's GPS CAPABILITIES in the Philippines and it will probably take over an hour before you could get any help at all!!!!!
Train service safety sucks
Nice train, it’s a shame once it’s actually put into service it will be overrun with homeless and drug addicts smoking, sleeping, doing drugs and shitting all over it.
