I was working in Talkeetna Alaska, we were having a little get together at work on Main St. Alog comes this red headed guy and we invite him to join in the fun and games! We were getting a little loud and decided to head down to the river and watch the sun set. Matt says that he will go grab his fiddle! Mind you we didnt have a clue who he was or the talent ha had! There we were on the bank of the Susitna River as the sun set behind Denali while this guy blew us away!
Sounds like an amazing time and amazing moment. I'm going to see lost dog on oct 3rd. Really hoping Matt makes an appearance. Might be wishful thinking, but I'm bringing my guitar and hoping to play with these musicians that have such a connection to my soul
I got to see him live at neck of the woods in sf ca and it was fucking amazing I want to buy his cd now my buzzed ass wasn't thinking about it while at the bar now im on an endless search for all his music on the internet or a link to his cd
I met my wife on the banks of the Susitna after a night at the Fairview...... Funny how Im thousands of miles away now and Im reading RUclips comments and you find your people listening to the stuff you listen to. I miss you Alaska!
matt is a prime example of how vocal cords themselves are an instrument. i have played this video at *least* 100 times in the past 6 years. absolutely brilliant each time.
snapped the drone peg and third peg off my banjo jumpin off a train I was sittinthere playing my guitar broken banjos next to me some red haired guy comes up and asked me what happened I told him it was busted he picks it up tunes it and picked the shit out of three strings looks at it again and just kind of walks away this is an alright guy
I hadn't heard this song when I saw you open for Lost Dog Street Band last week. Now I'm sitting in my room crying to this song in time of desperate need. Thank you for blessing us with your music
My first time seeing him play was when he was on tour with Lost Dog Street Band, I'd never heard his music before and originally went to go see lost dog and ended up seeing him play and getting one of his cds. Awesome music, and amazing in person.
Same exact story for me but my buzzed ass wasn't thinking about getting a cd til it was too late. Can you send me a copy of the cd?? Or help me get a hold of his music somehow?
Welp, there still is a God. He's inspiring Heckler with the Holy Spirit. This is as good as a sunset falling behind the mountain tops. Cheers mate!!!!!
This song haunts my dreams. I can not explain how much I love Mr Hecklers music. So many emotions, so invigorating. I've forgot to live, really live many times thruout my life, and this reminds me.

What is the proper folk term to refer to the viola as? Love the lower tones. Are there any other times where he or anyone else plays the viola with folk songs?
He's an amazing talent. My band covers one of his old songs from, geez, must be 12 or 15 years ago or somesuch -- a ragtime song called Hiding in the Ragtime Closet. The band in those days was Bayonet the Wounded if you want to look it up. He plays guitar, banjo, violin and viola, and ????, who knows! :)
Hey I was the guy in west Georgina that shook your hand after 5he show and said first time hearing your stuff thank for being you im seriously inspired
I saw Matt play on the street in Boise Id. It was amazing to see someone with such raw natural talent in a random public setting. We watched him for close to 30 minutes. Do you know where to find more of his music with this same soulful country style?
Check out the gems channel! The put out lots of amazing videos from artists of this caliber he actually just had a video come out today from there. Brought me here
At what point will I break? Here comes the storm to take me away. Will these shadows follow me? Down the road, down the way, just let me be. Down the road, down the way, where no man may breathe. And there's one truth that's yet to be. Down on your luck, But not on your knees. Just getting by, while the rest of the world is so hard to please. And your down on your luck, But not on your knees. Just getting by, while the rest of the world is so hard to please. With my lantern in my hand, And the water up to my knees. Always searching for dry land. Where I am going, where I am bound, it's too dark to breathe. Where I am going, where I am bound, no shadows may be. And there's one truth that's yet to be. Down on your luck, But not on your knees. Just getting by, while the rest of the world is so hard to please. And your down on your luck, But not on your knees. Just getting by while the rest of the world is so hard to please.

Vocals sound like backup to instrument, crazy
I first saw Matt at the Rhinebeck Farmers Market. I gave him a taste of our whiskey and he gave me a CD of his. Best trade I ever made.

"Down on your luck, but not on your knees, just getting by when the rest of the world is so hard to please"
Literally got that tattooed on my c
It’s rare to come across an artist whose music provides sustenance for the soul.
First time I've seen him play a viola. Love that tone.
Drone on, Brother, drone on-as a good Scot or Irish fiddler will (on a viola no less).
Thank you for carrying the torch for your forebears 🙏🏻

If you wouldn’t mind helping me get a copy as well I’d appreciate it, or at least point me towards a site where he might sell them.
It’s called “After the Flood”. I got it off of amazon. I imagine there’s plenty of other sites to buy it also.
this is a man pouring his soul out to the world
OMG I have to have Irish Mountain Blood coursing through my veins cause I can feel this in my heart!

This man is truly been blessed with a talent. This music is beautiful and the words are with true depth and remind me of the good old days.
i love this guy
i want this played at my funeral
This is great! He makes that fiddle sound just like a hurdy gurdy!
It's actually a viola, and the style he's playing in was common in Appalachian old time folk music. I suggest you check out "Mike Seeger part 1".
This guys voice blows my mind. Awesome
Ride fast red don't let the world bring you in, be safe in KY keep your nose clean and will meet in Nashville. Love ya.

Whenever I catch myself feeling sorry for myself
The amount of times I've watched this video and only just realised he's playing a viola in this one, not a violin. Lol
Be cool to jam with a bag pipe guy on there . Sounds great
❤
This is a viola, correct?

War time music.
