I was working in Talkeetna Alaska, we were having a little get together at work on Main St. Alog comes this red headed guy and we invite him to join in the fun and games! We were getting a little loud and decided to head down to the river and watch the sun set. Matt says that he will go grab his fiddle! Mind you we didnt have a clue who he was or the talent ha had! There we were on the bank of the Susitna River as the sun set behind Denali while this guy blew us away!
Sounds like an amazing time and amazing moment. I'm going to see lost dog on oct 3rd. Really hoping Matt makes an appearance. Might be wishful thinking, but I'm bringing my guitar and hoping to play with these musicians that have such a connection to my soul

My first time seeing him play was when he was on tour with Lost Dog Street Band, I'd never heard his music before and originally went to go see lost dog and ended up seeing him play and getting one of his cds. Awesome music, and amazing in person.

This song haunts my dreams. I can not explain how much I love Mr Hecklers music. So many emotions, so invigorating. I've forgot to live, really live many times thruout my life, and this reminds me.

It's actually a viola, and the style he's playing in was common in Appalachian old time folk music. I suggest you check out "Mike Seeger part 1".

He's an amazing talent. My band covers one of his old songs from, geez, must be 12 or 15 years ago or somesuch -- a ragtime song called Hiding in the Ragtime Closet. The band in those days was Bayonet the Wounded if you want to look it up. He plays guitar, banjo, violin and viola, and ????, who knows! :)

What is the proper folk term to refer to the viola as? Love the lower tones. Are there any other times where he or anyone else plays the viola with folk songs?
I saw Matt play on the street in Boise Id. It was amazing to see someone with such raw natural talent in a random public setting. We watched him for close to 30 minutes. Do you know where to find more of his music with this same soulful country style?
