There have been so many "Bro let's start a podcast 🥴" MLB coverage channels popping up this season; this is NOT one of those. You guys are great!! Great chemistry, great presence, great conversation. Early congrats on 100K Subs before 2025.

It is worse than you think. Bad calls make for bad swings. Bad Swings make for bad contact. One of the reasons that SLG has been all over the place is that in badly called games it is hard to get a good hit. These Umps are changing games, and redefining the standings.

Hey could U put the clip up when U first mention the angel call, besides that great video 👍. Also thing good to talk about how the umpires position at the plate affects the call they make (like sticking towards the left side of the plate means the accuracy on right calls is terrible).

Each team would get 20 challenges in an angel hernandez game. He would still fuck up a game.

“What are catchers for then?” You guys realize that a catchers main priority is not framing pitches right? 😂 crazy comment right there.. Fans should just threaten to boycott any game Angel is umpiring. That he is truly terrible

Angel Hernandez is bad. Everybody knows that.
If you do something, people can expect that you know what you doing.
But you don't it either. Here is something to learn.
These cards you show are inaccurate because:
"MLB reports the top and bottom of the strike zone for each and every pitch, as set by a Statcast operator"
And this operator can not possibly tell where the strike zone was established.
Accordng to the rules it is the batter who establishes the top and the bottom of the strike zone, when he takes his batting stance. But at what point is the batting stance gets established is determined by the home plate umpire. It's a judgment call. And there is only one person who knows where that is, and nobody else. Not some operator somewhere, not a computer using some data. Just one person.
And if the batter establishes the strike zone really late, and the umpire already had to take his stance to call, that would create a zone that is impossible to judge with any accuracy, because there only one person who knows where it is.
So any close calls up and down the zone that look bad, might be correct.
Only the sides of the strike zone that are established by home plate can be measured accurately.
Also need to know, that the strike zone is 3 dimensional, not 2. And that creates the possibility that a pitch that does not cross the zone at the front of the plate, can still be a strike.
And one more even weirder thing to know.
Even if the pitch crosses the zone right down the middle, it can be called a ball. Because umpires are thaught that every pitch is a ball until it is a strike, so the umpire has to see the ball crossing the zone, and if the catcher stands up before the ball arrives, and blocks the view of the umpire, then there is nothing else can be called but a ball.
