A reminder that Angel filed a discrimination suit against the MLB because he never gets World Series gigs and the government literally came and legally determined that he's bad at his job.
😂 that’s amazing
Haha this is true
And yet the MLB still hasn’t fired him. I mean I know the union is strong but they have a court case saying that he is literally dogshit at his job so how could the union protect him?
@@michaelwicklund No clue. Dodger's Yard has an interesting page about the union and supposedly there's a major process you have to go through to be fired and no one's ever been permanently let go before. Normally they just send them to the minors on probation and then they get their numbers back up by the end of it.
I love a good union, but if unions know what is good for them, they need to sort out their own PR issues like this. Fire the awful guys, reward the good ones, protect everyone else from bs.
If you know an umpires name, chances are they are terrible at their job
This a great point actually
so true. the only reason i know any ump is because of a controversy.
Generally I would say that's true, but everyone knew Jim Joyce's name because of the blown perfect game call. But he was actually a really good um. And he owned up to it like a man that he actually made the wrong call
You sound like my dad ! Lol he made an umpire cry once it was priceless. The guy called my teammates out before he even touched home. My dad let that slide he was angry but let it slide. I threw 90% strikes and he was calling them balls. My dad came to the mound and said "right down main street ". So I throw one down the pipe between knees and belt and be says "ball" so then my dad went off on him. Lol
I know Pat Hoberg strictly because of his perfect game. But he's the only good ref I know of.
Never forget that a federal judge claimed that it wasn't racism behind Angel not getting World Series gigs...just sheer incompetence
Pat and the boys should get the folks from Jomboy Media on the show so they can just run an hour long slander piece on Angel Hernandez LMAO
Hell yeah!!! Pat and the boys would absolutely love Jomboy!!
Pat and Jomboy would be a perfect match for baseball 💯
I’ve been hoping for this crossover for years!!!
This all day. Make it happen!
It ain't slander if its true :)
Mcafee show allowing their guests to speak uninterrupted level impossible
Dude is insufferable I'm glad I've never heard of him until now lmao
@@sonny3351came here to say the same thing. Dude was giving me a headache.
Love when they talk over the guest then immediately ask a question about what he just explained 🌚💀
Yea sometimes they just need to stfu and let the guest talk
Classic case of they’ve been told for so many years that they’re personalities and that’s why we watch going to their heads and they obviously take it too far into rude territory.
@@thatonedoood yea thankfully most guest handle it in good spirits
I'm a huge fan of theirs, and their bits are really funny and entertaining, but sometimes yeah, if you ask a question, let the guest talk a bit.
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed it, poor dude couldn’t get a word in
Angel Hernandez is the single biggest driver towards fans actually wanting an electronic strike zone.
That's what makes me mad. I'm a Baseball purist and I don't want a robot calling Balls & strikes. But with Umpires as bad as Hernandez it is almost forcing the league to make a change.
What about the players? Must be horrible as a player
@@laudanum669 Mayeby thats why the league keeps him around. Let the hate fester then use him as the poster boy when they feel the system is perfect.
Thing is, even with an electronic strike zone, you still got other umpires out on the field. The Home Plate Umpire is not the only umpire in the game. AND, he's still gotta be there to call Out and Safe at Home Plate
I hate they just mock baseball every time Jett is on. He's trying to give real info about umpire changes and they won't even let him speak.
P.S. baseball is unbearably boring
@@curtisbrown3865yes it is boring but when it’s great it’s great
@@curtisbrown3865And football isn’t? 🙄
Agreed, but Pat talks over everyone after asking questions in paragraph form
@@curtisbrown3865 Then don't have the guy on at all
Jesus Christ if Pat would just let Jeff freakin explain.
Damn.
Thank you. I thought I was the only one who was getting irritated
I love Pat's passion for things its part of what makes him entertaining....but when he goes off like this and doesn't even let his guest get a word in edgeways it gets damn old damn fast. The poor guy was just trying to explain about the challange system and you have Pat "The UMP" McAfee calling fake strikes alllllll the way through it to the point he actually completely misses the point that its a challange system not a pure Robot Umpire....and he still looks confused when his own guy corrects him!!!
@@ddlee84I cant watch a minute of him and I try so hard so often, he is just way too into his own energy. Good hosts take that passion and enthusiasm and make it about their guest, not just "hey look at me bounce around and play!"
I try to come back every now and then and watch a McAfee video just to see how it's going and I just get so irritated from things like this that I just can't watch. If he's not purposefully acting stupid and he really is this dumb that's crazy
Pat is part of a union and he will never be reprimanded for his actions
Its ironic that the union keeping Angel Hernandez employed could be the ultimate downfall of umps in general. You'd think they'd realize he's going to get them replaced.
Bill Miller, the union prez, is almost as bad, just like his predecessor Joe West.
Unions protect the bad and weak. Unions are horrid.
Umps will never fully be replaced..... thats what most people don't understand. The home plate ump will always be there to make the calls, even if he is getting told what to call by the robot strikezone.
All the union does is ensure that the "just cause" for firing (or other disciplinary action) has been properly documented, and that due process has been followed, both based on the contract the owners negotiated.
@twoofrummer I mean they just explained that in this video
"If whats good for baseball, is ruining baseball, thats the most baseball thing of all time"😂😂😂😂😂😂 but seriously the minute they introduced showing the strike zone on tv for the viewer, the change should have happened.
Those zones aren't 100% accurate. Especially back then. They never took into account a batters height. The zone was always the same size
@@beerrun5 nowadays they are 100% accurate. They even have it rendered in 3d in real time
@@beerrun5the zones might not be 100% accurate but they have to be better than the human eye lol. Umps aren’t 100% accurate either, I’d at least like an ultra consistent machine over how some dude is feeling on a given day
@beerrun5 irrelevant, he's the worst umpire in baseball, and that's proven by his sheer amount of missed calls and overturned calls
@@user-oh6sx7cp4c it's relevant to the original comment, not angel
Angel Hernandez should only be allowed to ump A’s games in Oakland. That limits the amount of fans that have to watch his garbage.
I say the MLB should purchase two U12 little league teams in Alaska and limit him to umpiring only the games that they play against each other.
I just love this kind of comment hahaha
Steve McMichael threatening Angel after singing the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley is legendary. Mongo was so drunk!
That was 2002 if I’m not mistaken correct me if I’m wrong
@@jballday3668 your probably right
He ejected him! The cubs won on a crazy play too!

“A lot of jazz cats are blind, but they can play the piano like nobody's business. I'd like to put a piano in front of Angel Hernandez and see what happens.” - Creed Bratton
I’d also like to see Pam topless
I'd like to hear what Jeff's saying instead of Pat interrupting everytime he opens his mouth. Pat loves the sound of his own voice
CC makes a good point with catcher framing. That's a large part of how those guys get paid. I can't see a single catcher wanting a fully automated system.
Pat is getting where he likes the sound of his own voice. He'll ask a question and talk all over his host trying to answer!!!
And then he sounds like an idiot because Jeff literally explained and Pat was talking over him.
It's that "gotta get views" mentality where they think loud, eccentric, and over-animated = more attention.
Unfortunately, they're not entirely wrong. It works, and that's why they do it. It just sucks that that's what we as an audience seem to reward 🤷
@@ThePsho Not me. I stop watching when Pat starts loving Pat to much LOL. He use to ask a question and give the guest the floor like Joe Rogan. Now it's a toss up. Guess it depends on his medication.
I don’t know if Pat drinks 10 Monsters before the show, is doing cocaine, or both. He cannot sit still and listen for more than 1/2 second.
I’m pretty sure he said something about taking adderall in one episode
I’m a bet on the cocaine. Lol this guy is way too amped up.
He’s always had serious ADHD issues. This is why the H in ADHD stands for “hyperactive”
I’ve seen it plenty
ADHD 😂
A broken clock is right twice a day which is more than Angel.
Jeff Bagwell was on the Astros broadcast during that game. He even said “If I’m a pitcher, I’m throwing outside of the zone all night.”
It’s sad pitchers have to adapt to Angel.
Jeff is like a dad taking to his teenage boys. 😂
Why even bring Jett on the show if you’re just going to shout over him the whole time and not listen as he’s trying to explain things to you?
Teams need to boycott games that he is the ump.. MLB will make changes once they start losing that coin!!!
Strike the Union. This is one scenerio where I would support that kind of thing
To say nothing can be done is ridiculous
I've wondered if it's possible for teams to boycott
The "you give em an inch, they take a mile" bit had me laughing! Great rebuttal. Red Sox guy is awesome. Jeff seems nice, too.
I watch you guys during football season. But you all talking baseball is my new favorite thing! I hope you have more baseball takes and you better believe I'll be doing a deep dive after this. If there's not any secret network beef I would love to see Jonathan Papelbon on the show! To talk about literally anything.
Big baseball fan growing up, stopped watching about 15 yrs ago until all balls and strikes are robo-umped. And challenging is stupid when we’ve had the tech since back then to have it perfect every time.
We could get an Enrico Pallazzo impersonator back there!
Fuggin A.
“STEEEEEEEEEEEE-RRRYYYYKE THREEEEEE !!!!HEY HEY HEY”
Angel Hernandez is my favorite umpire, because he's leading the charge for those supporting getting rid of umpires.
I never understood why the Umpire stands behind the catcher in order to make calls. It would be so much easier and accurate to call strikes from like the second base umpire lol
Thin CC Sabathia is such a jump scare
Come to an Indianapolis Indians game, who Paul Skenes plays for, right in your backyard and see this challenge system in-person. I believe they have a home series starting this Wednesday!

3:14 Cyber Stadium Series: Base Wars on NES 😂
I'm looking forward to any automated version
Vegas has to be the biggest opponent to the robot ump.
You would think with a strong union eye glasses would be included in the package.
Angel Hernandez stopped trying 10 years ago! You can tell it's so obvious and the so called commissioner Manfred doesn't give a damn!
Give the umpire vr glasses with a strike zone implemented
Angel hernandez has been absolute horrific umpire for thirty one years
Exactly. Did Pat just find out about this turd?
6:08 I like the idea that the home plate ump becomes the dog from Duck Hunt.
Lmfaooo 5:12 “so like the final 2 minutes of the half?”
Angel is bad in the field too 🤣
You gotta hand it to Angel. It's mesmerizing to watch a guy be so consistently terrible at his job, never improve, and have the absolute gall to try and sue his employer for discriminating against him when he's literally the worst umpire in history.
“OUR BATS TOO??” killed me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They look like strikes to me! It's where the ball crosses the plate, not where the catcher catches the ball 😂
If you know the umpires name they are terrible at their job.
Officiating in baseball can almost be completely done with robotics. Baseball is very black and white sport to call for the most part.
depends on how much of the infield you're willing to cover with cameras with a 100% 360 view of literally every square inch of it. What about if a guy is trapping a ball against the ground with his glove but doesn't actually control it? There's plenty of ways to trick a robot that you can't necessarily with a human that can move and use a little outside of the box thinking. Baseball players try to push the boundaries more than ANY other sport.
You have obviously never umpired.
@@jeffwing8083 I Said almost. Most baseball calls are strikes, balls, safes and outs. Of course there's some nuances that a robot will not be able to catch unless there's a chip in the baseball.
@@TheTez1990 a chip wouldn’t work. That ball gets destroyed. Lol. It would be expensive because of the number of baseballs needed for a season by each team.
@@jeffwing8083 NO DOUBT! PROBABLY NEVER PLAYED EITHER. But did stay at a Holiday Inn express
"Giving the outside corner". Think Passan meant to say, giving the opposite batter's box" 😂.
The automated ball/strike system works really well in AAA- players being able to challenge calls has introduced a lot of fun tension too.
Angel Hernandez is an epic troll 😂
NEW PROPOSAL: MLB and the Umpires Union should work it into the contract that whenever ANY umpire scores below a certain grade or percentile, they should be REQUIRED to use the automated balls/strikes system for 10 games (or whatever is determined). This would actually show an umpire what actual Balls and Strikes look like for 10 games. After 10 games, they go back to being on their own for as long as they can maintain an acceptable rate of proper calls
Nobody ever confronts Unions about their responsibility to provide skilled competent employees to the employer. Everyone should be crushing the union to put a decent worker on the field and not a clown.
Angel Hernandez is the reason we all know there is an umpire union
Pats “they took er jerbs” is fu king hilarious
That catcher deserves more credit for framing those pitches
Gotta remind you guys of Pat Holberg, the antithesis of Angel Hernandez. Give Pat some love when you can, dude called that Perfect game in the WS.
I've seen him call a strike on a ball that bounced off the ground in front of the plate. That was years ago... he's been bad forever, maybe always?
Pat actually being clueless on this stuff made this my favorite video on the subject lol
Glad Pat watched baseball for the first time ever apparently.
At the bottom left you can see the second base umpire. and even he is like "wtf". he just freezes in disbelief lol.
Im mexican. The "And send it all to their families" line was incredible 😂😂
"If what's good for baseball is ruining baseball then that's the most baseball thing of all time."
Truer words have never been spoken
Passan getting worked hard today with the Angel questions. Rich Eisen went off on Angel too.
Damn Pat you must have taken the real good vitamins just before this segment lol
Unions doing what they do best, making robots look like the most attractive options.
He was consistent!😂
Homeboy never got a word in 😂
I'm on board with the robo umpires. Still need umpires to make calls on the field, call people safe, call check swings, HBP, etc. But the balls and strikes needs to be cleaned up.
Realistically, check swings are more of a coin flip than called balls and strikes. If they are going to be able to challenge called pitches they should be able to challenge called swings.
@adamm2787 that's not how robo-umps would work. There's no challenge of pitches. The robo-umps will make the calls. No challenging.
@@ReadIcculus93 You obviously have less of a clue what you are talking about than Pat McAfee.
@adamm2787 In full ABS, all ball-and-strike calls are made by the Hawk-Eye system and instantaneously relayed to the home-plate umpire. In Full ABS, there is NO challenge...
You learn more when you differentiate. What you are talking about is the challenge system. Which is not full robo-ump.
@adamm2787 In the case of the challange system, there would be a necessity for a full umpire crew. The Home plate umpire would be the one you'd relay your challenge to, with the robo-ump.
In the case of full robo-umps, people think the home Plate umpire would no longer be necessary. Which I argued against that idea.
Imagine Danny devito eating a Sub and calling strike 3 on Aaron Judge behind the plate at an MLB game! 😂😂😂
Jeff passan with Ok Computer in the background, man of taste
It's basically the system they use in Tennis. It's worked for years. They don't even need to test it in the minors. Bring the challenge system up to the majors now, and slowly work the umpires out. Keep some field umps.
Poor Jeff. Pat was screaming lol
I’d maybe watch baseball again if umps were challengeable. The main reason I got turned off baseball was the umps and how long it takes between pitches.
Angel Hernandez is basically becoming the Stalingrad of the Umpires Union right with MLB. They’re trying so hard to win the battle over him that they’re losing the war to keep all other umpires behind the plate.
Hernandez incompetence is so profound, and the response from the Union so pathetic, that the fan base is turning on umpires. By the time he retires a lot of other umpires will be forced into unemployment when balls/strikes are determined by robots.
Teams should refuse to play when Angel Hernández is at Homeplate
I was getting into baseball a few years ago but I backed out when I learned of this ump
When Jeff says there are worse umpires in MLB, I'm guessing he's referring to CB Bucknor.
This is a perfect example of how unions can be AWFUL. These umps don’t need a union to demand better pay or more favorable working conditions, they have a union in place so they can be completely incompetent at their job….. and still be able to keep it. This ump has no business being anywhere near a baseball game.
First time I've seen AJ talk in one of these clips and it's anti robot sentiment lmao
I hate how umps have their certain "strike zone" how about you just use the damn PLATE as reference
I died when connor said "OUR BATS TOO?" fuckin love that guy
“They’re taking our jobs” hits so different after hearing all of my family members say this for years 😂😂😂
Pat Was Like The Robots Getting Wrong How The Robots Getting It Wrong 😅
Your next interview should be with the AAA players hitters and pitchers. And ask them what they think about the system.
I love the human element. It’s as much of baseball as the players. I’ll never forget Lou Piniella stoming ups and get thrown own out! It’s part of the game!!!!
This umpire is doing the Leslie Nielsen tactic in naked gun
4:46 so basically like Tennis when you look at it that way it’s a lot simpler
Valid question we have all had for years now.
I have an idea.... The fans in all stadiums should chant "Fire Angel Hernandez" in every game he umpires for the entire first inning. So loud that it's basically the only thing you hear in the stadium.
just like tennis matches when they see if the ball was in or out
The MLB should definitely implement a challenge system....would also add so much more value to the role of a Manager
Its the pitchers/catchers challenging the calls. Managers have nothing to do with it
Tennis has the same challenge system. No reason the MLB can’t do this except the umpire union
I dig that hybrid system.
Angel Hernandez is advocating for AI umpiring!
If the zone is consistent for both sides it's I can live with it. There is a video on YT about Kerry Wood's 20 strike out game and they clearly said both pitchers were getting a margin because they were so consistent.
Those were some bad ass pitches to be honest, they cut hard at the last second
A pitcher could pull a Nuke Laloosh and throw a pitch into the radio booth and Hernandez would call it a strike.
I love how even the pitchers are like. Ehhhhh really? Thanks for the strike i guess
