You are a legend. This setting was way off hidden from a usability standpoint. It was already a weird option to have this LEDs work while the PC is shut down. To hide the option behind a mouse and keyboard icon and not the overall lightning effect settings is just infuriating.

I had selected "dark" mode in aura sync and it defaulted to unicorn puke when shut down. Had to turn on RGB, then it allowed me to change the shutdown effect to off and after that I could set it back into dark mode. Just in case anyone has the same issue. Thanks for the video!

Thank you so much for this! Recent update had added this setting to my armoury crate, and I couldn't figure this out. Used to be able to control this directly from uEFI, but no longer worked. I can finally rest again.
Thanks! Could not sleep with that default rainbow effect going on in my glass PC case while being in sleep mode. At first, I disabled it in bios, but I guess Armoury Crate was toggling that bios switch back on. Thanks again!

Nice one! The Armoury Crate is great, in theory, and the interface looks lovely, but ASUS are really terrible with software, naming, and options. I reinstalled Armoury Crate yesterday because the old version made my mouse really stuttery after a Windows update, and so I had this exact same lighting problem, again! I went into the BIOS and turned off the lights, and it did nothing! Lights were still on when I shut down the PC. Whoever thought this was a smart idea needs their head checked. Especially the decision to set rainbow as the default setting. WTF? I assume that the Armoury Crate just overwrites the BIOS setting as soon as the PC restarts again, so you _have_ to do it this way. Idiots!
did you figure out how to turn it off? i'm not sure if you have "stealth mode" in your bios, but that seems to work i think. turning aura off just seems to turn it off while powered on, but if stealth mode is an option, try that one

Thank you for this video. I did mistakenly go to the aura effects. Now I know what I should do instead. Also, as an aside, you have confirmed for me a feature of the armory crate that had been bothering me for a long while. The app's switches had either an "on" or "off" label on them. If a switch was labelled "on", I was not sure whether that word referred to the current on state of the system, or whether the system was actually off and that was the "on" switch. Now, I know from your example. :-)

Funny how those manufacturers call it aRGB, while they only offer a select possibilities in their software. Thought the "a" in aRGB stood for adressable, meaning that you as user is able to assign color and effect to one single led as you like.
lol i heard a similar discussion the other day, technically the actual LED is addressable, if they will let you the user change it that is another matter

@@mikesunboxing While I have your attention :) Any idea, why my external audio interface, connected by USB-C, still has lights on, even when computer is powered off ? Seems there must be some power coming in through the USB cable. I’d like everything to go black, when system is powered off.
@@yams900 Some motherboards have residual power through the ports, so not sure if there is anything you can do about that. Might be something you can do in the BIOS, but I don't know, sorry

Cheers man, after multiple restarts I got into devices. For RGB haters like me, if you have selected dark mode in aura it will tell you you cannot control Off settings in Devices, so I just selected Static and black as colour in Aura and now mobo is perfect (no rgb). Next time I’ll just get an msi unify board, high end without hassle of rgb
This video has some pretty useful information in it, however for those who just want to turn it off and want a TL;DW: Armoury Crate > Device > select motherboard > Shutdown Effect > Click "off"
@@typical-zanss3731 my motherboard led used to blink too much so i changed on the seetings to stay dark blue when my pc is off, my coolers are corsair rgb so i use icue software to configure, i hope that this helped u in some way. 👍

Like others, I also don't have "Shutdown Effect". I'm using the Strix B360-H Gaming with the latest version of Armoury Crate installed (5.1.5.0). After clicking on the motherboard, I only have two options... "RGB Headers" and "Disk Info".
hmm not sure what is going on there, could be the bios power management settings turn of that in the software. try turning off or on the ERP setting in power management to see if it makes a difference

Asus should definitely improve their Armory Crate app by making it clearer where everything is imo and add some real practical use to the app besides turning off RGB and getting annoyed by the fan curve
I have a problem my Asus motherboard rgb turns off but I also have an Asus AIO (Strix LC 360) and the rgb on it doesn't turn off even though I turned off the shutdown effect

All you have to do is touch the 2 pins together that are for the power switch on the mainboard header. It'll be marked on the boards PCB and also shown in the manual.

OMG!!! The motherboard was greyed out, so I didn't think there were options there to address the shutdown lighting. WOW!!

thanks for the sub and maybe look in the bios for standby states and try and get it to hibernate rather than standby, that is a much lower power state
