- Nico Young reacts and explains his 2021 US Olympic trials 5k prelim race. He raced this as a 18 year old freshmen at NAU. He finished in second place against some of the top competition in the country. This was a super fun video to film and make. This was also the first video posted with our new intro sequence. It uses our cousin, Brad Guesman (sn0wcrash)'s music. Tell us what you think, should we make a whole video on the behind the scenes of our production style?

Interesting to hear what goes through an elite runner’s mind during an intense race
yeah it we've got more coming!
so humbling to look at you and your brothers times, you guys are incredible talents! i have nothing but respect
Thank you!
I was rooting for nico all the way to the end. He’ll get in next time!
Was really bummed that Nico didnt have a senior track season. There were so many great runners, Nico, Daschbach, Sprout, Strangio, Schoope. Looking forward to having something similar with this '22 season of NP runners! If Colin and Lex had been pacing off sprout for 3000m i think they both couldve got that 8:40 this past track season. Gonna have at least 2 Nicos this year in XC and the 3200, Leo and Aaron are gonna be cleaning up in the mile. Hoping most of all to see a Colin Sahlman, Rheinhardt Harrison, Gavin Sherry, Larry Josh Edwards showdown mile kinda like the quarantine classico last year. Definitly think all those guys have a shot at breaking 4, more than 1 in one race would be the first time in history I think. Lot to look forward to!
yeah should be a killer season, were all stoked!
This is an awesome video and very excited to be a new subscriber! Nico is so humble and gave a terrific recap of his strategy and experience throughout the race.
Immensely proud of your progress and accomplishments as a Newbury Park HS parent and Dana Hills XC alum. Wishing you, Lex and Leo much success.
I got to see him do an amazing race at CIF and have been watching all the impressive things he did in his first year of college so I am just really excited to see what he does next!
yeah its gonna be great!!
GREAT CHANNEL!!! And bringing on nico is a big plus. Always good to see him 🙏
More to come!
Great video! Really cool to see Nico breaking down his own race.
Yeah I was super intrigued listening to him as we filmed it, so much great insight.
Great video boys! Nice to see Nico on the channel!
More to come!
I like Nico’s comments about staying in the moment and relaxing while you are running, I find myself trying to solve world issues while running which I need to stop doing. Thanks for the good advice Nico.
good editing work with the zoom in and out on the interview and the race. these L&L guys are real pros
Great video. I appreciate the insight into the racing mindset.
Glad it was helpful!
I don’t understand how you don’t have 25k subs yet?! You make really good videos! Better then most RUclipsrs.
Thankyou, were slowly getting there!
Your content is amazing guys, keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
Great video as always, and Thanks 🙂👍🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
Glad you enjoyed it
this vid has me hype for my race on saturday 🔥🔥
I’m glad to here that!
Interesting to hear what Nico was thinking during the race. Good job
L&L 👍
thanks! glad you liked it!
Well said with no position being a bad position. It's easy to get lost in your thoughts if you don't go out to your race plan and end up in a weird spot.
Definitely!
Great video idea! Always happy to see Nico with you guys
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah a behind the scenes video
It’s gonna be awesome
you know it !
More of these!
another is on its way !!
amazing runner & your brothers Long journey ahead of you . Good job mom & dad. 👏👏👏👏
Thank you !

ran my whole life i used to look like Nico on my running days but way slower lol. Still follow and love the sport. So excited to watch you 3 conquer the World. Can’t wait and thanks for replying. Wish you guys then best !!!
I love the content 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks !
lovin the new intro!!:)
awesome! we worked hard on it!
Thank you, Nico! :)
Welcome!
So interesting to see how all the Young brothers running style is so similar. Very efficient.
I love the new intro!!
Thanks 😊
new intro is fire 📈📈📈
glad you liked it!!
Great insight
yes indeed
Awesome
Super interesting video, keep it up
Thank you, we will!
Great video !
Glad you enjoyed it
Can’t wait! Do you guys listen to music when you run?
Sometimes depend on what the run is and how many people we are with. If it’s just me and Leo we will bring a small JBL clip speaker with us. If we’re alone we’ll usually use AirPods.
Here we go again
Nico and NAU will be top XC this year. In the Spring, he'll be good in the 5K.
Hope so!
Nico. You are a great runner..... But a better big brother!
Wooo running with Paul Chelimo
Nice to finally to hear a voice with the face !! Now NICO is FINALLY NOT that "mystical" figure on the screen. I had no idea NICO had a brother either. But great video, the music ratio was very good. Many Tubers play music way too loud and like the other day, I was listening to a video unrelated to this channel, and I could not understand the narrator because the music was too high. My feeling is, if I want to listen to music, I'll watch a music video - just about every song known to man is somewhere on the Tube. However, if the video is non musician related, I don't mind a "pinch" of music. You SPRINKLE salt on your popcorn. You DON'T sprinkle popcorn on your salt. I went ahead and subbed to your channel !!
Thanks we focus highly on production quality. Good way of putting it with the popcorn metaphor, I love that.
Thank you.
Well done 👍🥇
Thanks 👍
what the outro 😱😱
where are you guys surfing those chocolate milk waves in socal that were in the intro?
6:00 always quarter socks around the track
Re gently I’ve injured my foot while running, you guys got any ideas on how to make it heal faster? And how do you guys not get injured with all the insane running you’re doing!
Get Nico to do a NAU gear haul!
Maybe one day!
Off topic but are you guys coming back to Az to run Desert twilight again for XC?
sadly no, we will be starting our season at woodbridge
Nice content. Example of what the runners are thinking during a race - while competing with the best of the best. I think your start was fine. Were you looking to shoot out like a cannon? At this level - wouldn't that just be a waste of energy - given that, at this level - even if you jumped out to 10 meter lead - everyone else would have just reeled you in. Also, shooting out too quickly just sends a signal to the other runners - that you're the new inexperienced guy. It's not about how you start a race, it's about how you position yourself during a race (not getting spit out the back), and how you finish the race. Matt Tegenkamp (12:58 - 5,000/ 8:07 - 2 mile)) had it right - as he said some years ago - you have to be ready to suffer. You will not be able to compete with the best of the best - unless you are mentally (and physically) prepared to go to the pain cave.
Crazy bruh Paul chelimo was just jogging 😂😂
off topic a bit lol but you guys have any reconditions for xc spikes. I train and race road races in nikes similarly to you guys and i really enjoy the rigidity and responsiveness of the next% and was wondering if you knew any spikes that implement that. love the content by the way!
The victories xc spike
@@miggi1644thanks
I’ll probably race in the Drags they aren’t necessarily for XC but they are the only spikes that have the new technology
You’re the one that asked wesfly about this right? I think I’m going to wear some Xc spikes for most of my races but for the championship ones I’ll probably pull out the dragonflys
@@dylanballard9813 lol yeah
Stud
He said his warmup was fast this time, what specifically did he do for a warmup?
He usually does his typical rope stretching and a 2-3 mile jog with dynamics. We should have a video on this subject coming soon to the channel 👀.
Can we get a pre run activation, band stretch routine
coming soon 🤫
I might be getting confused with people but did you go to NewBury Park
Yes Nico did go to newbury park, and we are currently at newbury park.
@@LLexandleovloggs wow thats cool. I remember watching him race a few years ago
Behind the scenes video please
I really want to make one of these. So much happens behind the scenes that is actually really cool!
Which high socks did Nico use during the trials?
He doesn't know for sure what model, but most likely a pair of high adidas racing socks.
American Ingebretsens.
