Really makes me feel bummed out that Super Spacefortress Macross never got a port on the consoles or even on modern hardware, I can only dream and hope one day.
Some kind of console port would be great. There are several Macross arcade shooters, would be cool to see a collection get released. The newest Macross game just doesn't hold a candle to the classics.
Progear is actually available for purchase in Capcom Arcade Stadium, on consoles and Steam. You don't need that Capcom Arcade Stick thing anymore if you're looking to buy the game.
You'll need to get a ROM if you want to play Macross, at least for now. I'd totally forgotten about the arcade stadium. Just a couple of bucks and you're playing some Progear.
Hey Jim. Watching this just unlocked a core memory! I grew up in South Africa where it was a total crapshoot what cabinets a local arcade would have. Especially in the urban-rural fringe where I lived. Half the time cabinets came through a US/UK distributor, the other half via a Japanese importer. Travelling down the coast into a deep rural part of the country on a holiday as a teenager, my dad handed over a decent wad of cash to blow on arcades while he spent a few hours gambling in the casino next door. This was around 2001. My attention was immediately caught by a cabinet placed between the usual SNK suspects like Metal Slug X and KoF95 - Strikers 1945 Plus. I spent at least three hours blitzing through that game twice (maybe three times) over in one sitting. My only prior arcade shmup experience was Capcom’s 19XX - a regular staple at my local arcade close to home. So the 3D-like transformation sequences of the bosses in Strikers blew my mind and stuck with me for years after. After that day in the arcade, I struggled to even remember the game’s name beyond the 1945 moniker. I thought it was maybe a Capcom game because of the 1945 branding, but was confused by the SNK branding on the side of the machine for what I thought was a Capcom game. I was as much of an SNK fanboy as one could be in the local arcade scene prior to mainstream internet and widespread proliferation of MAME and roms. So looking through listings in imported game magazines and catalogues of SNK developed Neo Geo games, I kept coming up short on figuring out the name, series or developer of the game I played as a young teen. But that whole rabbit hole soon slipped from my busy teenage memory. It was only MUCH later with the 2018 releases of the Switch ports that it clicked. Seeing a trailer featuring the distinct design of the third boss (transforming from giant battle warship into a detachable mecha with chopper blades on its shoulders) jolted my memory and I realised this is the exact game I had played - also more horizontal in cab orientation than vertical. I’ve since played ports of the other entries in the series and have become a big fan. Watching your video now, I realised the missing part of the puzzle and why for the longest time I had always thought the game was an SNK release: being housed in a big SNK MVS cabinet is what stuck out to me as a kid and what I was basing my rabbit hole searches on. A bit of a dead end for my searches in the early 2000s considering that Plus was the only arcade entry published by SNK and a Japan exclusive, from what I can gather.
That's a hell of a story. Strikers Plus is definitely the most obscure game in the series. As I mentioned in the video, this was my first time playing it, don't think I'd even heard of it prior, but being a fan of the series I knew I had to give it a try.
Afternoon Jim how are you mate? Nice kick-ass list of old arcade shooters here & wish I could see a re-release of Super Space fortress Macross happening hopefully in the future just like others that aren't available for the switch yet! I've always been an old arcade shooting fan and always bloody will be mate! 👍🎮
I do have all the capcom ones via arcade stadium, I may need to fire them up again at some point! hadn't heard of mystic riders but if it's coming to consoles I may have to keep an eye out for it! some definite bangers on this list, for sure. all time favorite is definitely a difficult call. tossup between one of the raiden games and gradius 2: gofer's ambition for me!
I had no idea that Progear was added to the Capcom Arcade Stadium, such an awesome game. The Irem Collection Vol. 3 is supposed to be out this year, courtesy of Strictly Limited.
Hey Jim, good stuff. I remember encountering Strikers 1945 Plus. A good Strikers experience like always, though Strikers 1999 is my favorite of the franchise. There is one arcade schmup I'd like to recommend to you and it's Twin Eagle II The Rescue Mission. Instead of planes or ships, you're in Apache helicopters and since I'm a rotorhead it was calling to me haha. To my knowledge I believe it never had a console port, so MAME is the way.
Hey Jim, I saw your reply on my notification but can't actually open it. Looks like this stupid site censored your comment -_-. But other than that, dude I'm glad you've played it! Man of absolute culture yo!
Love the content but this video made me think. If the video footage is mostly tall and thin you should release it in “portrait mode” or if that’s not the right term maybe it’s called “vertical orientation”. That way it can be full screen without the black bars on the side. Just a thought. Cheers dude!
I think you're referring to tate mode, or standing mode. Unfortunately I don't have a monitor that can accommodate that, and I don't think most people would be happy to watch my videos sideways lol.
@MadPanicGaming You know Jim?. I watched the video about the electronics store, and it's called Yodobashi-akiba. It is a place where everyone goes to the biggest store. I know the place is in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan. They do sell many electronics such as: phones, computers, tablets, laptops, video games, and more. I say that place compares to BrandsMart USA in the United States. But it's totally different. Isn't that right Jim?
Thanks for watching, everyone! Be sure to leave a like if you enjoyed the video, and let me know what your favorite arcade shmup is!
Progear No Arashii is actually on Steam as DLC for Capcom Stadium Collection! For 1.99USD!
@@blackknight597 Shows what I know lol. Thanks!
Jim always recommending heat! 🔥 Keep it up bro! My fav channel on RUclips!!
@@blackknight597 Yep I downloaded it for the Switch, great game.
A Macross shooting collection including Scramble Valkyrie would be so, so, sweet 😊😊😊
I'd happily buy that. Give me the 8, 16, and 32-bit Macross games along with the arcade games.

yes I bought for free yesterday with my gold points on the nintendo eshop with also" carrier air wing"
These videos kick ass😂🎉
I play Strikers 1945+ every now and again. It was never ported to the AES but you can get it on the AES 161-in-1 cart and it works perfectly.
I settled for a ROM.
Awesome video!!!! Gonna have to look up that Macross game, you can get Progear on the Capcom Arcade Stadium 1 available on modern consoles

cool video...pro gear no arashi is present on the capcom arcade stadium vol.1 too
Awesome video thank you! Some really great ones here!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
I have strikers plus on mvs. The rank on it is silly. Even if I put the easiest settings it's amazing hard by level 6.
Yeah, it's a tough bastard.

Much appreciated, Malcolm. My advice, download either MAME or Final Burn Neo and get to playing some of these shmups.

i love shmups, would be awesome to have Super space fortress Macross for the Nintendo Switch ❤
A collection featuring all of the Macross arcade shooters would be especially cool
Macross is an nmk game too. They produce great looking mechanical designs
Indeed it is, I meant to say published by Banpresto. Probably should do a second take on some of these lol.
I absolutely need to check a few of these out! Going to start with Macross!
Enjoy! Super Spacefortress Macross is truly awesome.
Progear can be bought on the Switch, awesome game
I honestly had no idea, thanks! I knew it was included on the home arcade, but wasn't aware it had been added to the Capcom Arcade Stadium.
@@MadPanicGaming you can buy it separately. Awesome game

Lol fair enough. It just occurred to me because I was watching on my iphone.
This is a great video! My favorite arcade shooter is probably Dragon Blaze or Esprade. There’s so many great ones!
Good video dude. I love all these games
Much appreciated. 👍
Dimahoo arcade port :( ?
❤
Always good to see someone else who remembers love.
Who could ever forget?
I remember touch
