Damn... I think I have respect for Hector now. I can't believe I didn't let myself see more of Hector as a character. Instead, I just kept looking at him as a this tall and tough wall of bricks. Thank you for this new perspective.
Rowan Support Science When? -but seriously, i love these support science videos. its like english class, except more intriguing because you teach and analyze topics that normally would not be seen as academic or intellectually motivated. but in reality these games are so much more than what people see them as from a distance-
FE7 is a game where the generic *Village Maiden,* Rebecca, has a personal mystery and quest to fight in the army. She matures enough to be entrusted by royalty as caretaker at the end of her journey. The game is character driven alright.
Did support science just reach... S rank? animations, voice acting, well thought out analysis, viewer inclusion, so many things, even compared to the last support science, the quality keeps getting better. I feel bad that I watched this without actually paying for it.
Michael Shan well he is the most useful lord of the first westernized FE game a lot of people like him because he was their introduction to the Series kind of like why lyn is super popular as well
Hector's character arc is overcoming toxic masculinity. The toxicity comes from his hesitance to open up to others emotionally (its toxic for him, not for those around him).
@Dread Wolf No, toxic masculinity is a real thing, in fact, as Erk said, much of Hector's character arc is confronting, dealing with, and overcoming toxic masculinity, and settling into a healthier, more balanced outlook on life. Don't let idiots calling yellow blue trick you into thinking blue isn't real.
I have to admit, I always kind of overlooked Hector due to his popularity and sort of passed him off as how he was presented. He wasn't my favorite lord, but he definitely wasn't my least favorite. This video showed me that you honestly can't take everything at face value. I dunno how you keep doing it, but every Support Science I learn more about a character I thought I knew everything about. Thanks dude. This video was absolutely amazing. Hector's definitely risen up on my list of favorite characters just in general. And please, keep this series up. It doesn't matter who's next, it'll be a treat just to learn more about them.
I couldn't agreee more; I always lumped Hector and Lyn in the same bunch as just being the super popular ones (to be fair, I never played FE7). After finally watching this video, I actually cried because I realized that Hector and I are the same. I'm not brash, but I define myself through my intellectual strength and feel the need to be the support for everyone around me at the cost of concealing my own emotions, especially my sadness. This video was an absolute masterpiece, and really touched the fiber of who I am. Thank you.
First of all THAT VOICE ACTING THOOO. SO GOOD!!~~ I NEED MORE. Second, this aches to watch with school inching closer. College is rough. Writing my own characters and world, I think about the struggles I face daily and what my favorite characters from this series go through, and I hope it reflects well in my own work. I want to be remembered and surrounded by my loved ones when I go. I want my work to live on for me so I'm not forgotten. Even if it isn't received as well, or doesn't do as great as other creators, I want it to find its following and live on for me. It might sound cheesy but I want to leave a fire that doesn't go out. Might be a bit of a tangent but suffice it to say I think your work does this very well. I want my work to be analyzed like this one day. Keep it up, I can't wait to see more! I'll keep coming back to these to remind myself why I keep going through college. I have a lot of people I wanna see on here next but I'll leave it to you to decide. Buuuut, if I could suggest, maybe do one on Marth? I would love to see an Eliwood Vindication style video on the Hero King. With however many games he appears in, there's plenty to pull from.
This video is fantastic, Ghast. You’ve outdone yourself. What I love about Hector is that he seems to represent the idea of manliness today. Men aren’t supposed to cry, they’re supposed to be strong and resilient. They’re supposed to step up when no one else will, and be protectors. Otherwise they’re seen as weak. Hector is the embodiment of manliness, which makes him relatable to several of us guys in the community. I’d love to see a video on Ephraim on your take of his actions, and how most people see him as a Gary Stu due to his skill. It’d be nice to see someone explain how if Ephraim hadn’t stood up and succeeded, he would’ve failed his father, the one thing he refuses to do again which he brings up in his new Heroes alt’s Lvl. 40 conversation. Once again, AMAZING video Ghast. Each one gets better and better. Remember that on your journey, together we will ride.
I am glad to see a video like this; the more awareness there is of how deep Hector's character runs the better. If I may quibble a little with the conclusions you reached, I would say that my understanding of Hector's deepest nature is slightly, subtly different from your own, though the same in all the essentials. As you rightly point out, Hector's great strength as a character is his physical ability and steadfastness in his loyalty; his great weakness is his inability to deal with or even really confront his own emotional weaknesses, particularly as they relate to grief. At the same time, I feel you are a little off when you put this entirely down to his refusal to show weakness in front of others. About a decade ago, my grandfather passed away after a long battle with cancer. At the funeral, I found myself seated in the front row of whatever building we were in, looking at his coffin, and being entirely unable to cry. I can remember quite strongly feeling guilt, or shame, at the fact that I wasn't responding to the situation as I felt I should be. In the end I forced myself to cry by imagining some story in my head that had caused me to cry in the past - something about a dead puppy, I think. But I do still feel some measure of guilt, whether warranted or not, that I didn't cry in the way that I was supposed to, despite wanting to and feeling pressured to do so, rather than the other way around. And I have in the past suffered the consequences of bottling my emotions in the same way that Hector did when he exploded at Oswin. When I replayed FE7 years later and recalled Hector talking about how he couldn't cry for his parents, either in front of others or on his own, I felt like I understood a lot of what he was trying to convey, in the sense of the desire to cry but being unable to. I appreciated him greatly as a character for that scene alone, not because I necessarily felt the same way, but because Hector in that scene with Lyn /understood/ that this was a weakness. Here's the critical point: his inability to disperse his pent-up feelings of grief is a weakness, but more than that, Hector knows that this is a weakness, and that Lyn's ability to cry for her parents is in fact a strength. Hence why he calls her a strong woman. It's very powerful stuff. As for what you said in the video, you made it sound like Hector saw crying itself as a weakness, where honestly I believe he saw it as a strength, because it's something that he is physically incapable of doing. This dynamic between the two shapes a lot of their interactions throughout the game and, if you continue with the support in Hector mode, their development as characters as well. This of course doesn't discount the necessity of Hector developing as a character by becoming more aware of his emotional fragility, but one of the things I do find fascinating about Hector is that he doesn't truly ever learn to deal with his grief properly; rather, he becomes far more open to allowing others to act as emotional crutches for him the way he does for others, which feeds back into what you were saying about his being most comfortable as the tree for others to lean on rather than the other way around. Another interesting thing is that, as I think I wrote on your Eliwood video, Hector (and Lyn) obtain catharsis from fighting where Eliwood doesn't, so Hector's growing out of his reliance on conflict to deal with his emotional issues is another good way in which he is shown to be growing up over the course of the game. What else? Just a minor thing, but when Hector mentioned that his being at court would attract more attention than his being away, I interpreted that as more of a bit of self-deprecation given how little he helps his brother with politics and statecraft than it is suggesting that Uther would be put under scrutiny for consulting with Hector. Basically that Hector is never at court to begin with, so if he were actually involved in anything at all, that would be proof positive that something is amiss. Also when you said or implied that Hector is the least merciful of the three Lords in FE7, I'd actually go out on a limb and say that Lyn is the least merciful, at least in terms of the way she approaches her enemies, particularly in Lyn Mode. In fact, it's possible that Lyn is more misunderstood as a character than Hector is; if you ever do a SS on her I'd be interested to hear your opinions, as I feel there's a lot to say about her that is rarely discussed, in the same way Hector is often boiled down to his who-wants-a-fight persona. Oh, and I enjoyed the video and quality editing immensely. Mustn't forget to give credit where credit is due.
Well, this comment changed a LOT about how I felt about Hector after the video.... I never saw it that he couldnt physically cry and that was a weakness... Ill admit Hector has gone a bit up in my favorite list.
This has been the most somber Support Science yet. Hector’s story is a touching and emotional tale that any Fire Emblem fan should know. Thank you for this special episode, and as Hector would say, “Oho”.
This was such an impactful Support Science that’s it’s now my favorite one of all time. It made me feel a bit emotional. You do such amazing videos Ghast. Keep it up!
People who complain about FE7’s writing, while their complaints aren’t unfounded, they also miss some of the deeper interpersonal connections that this game thrives on. Heck, I even used the Oswin/Hector/Uther loyalty conflict as part of a college paper analyzing fictional Prima Facie Duty conflicts. Great video, Ghast. Your editing has also SKYROCKETED in ability recently! All the hard work is paying off I’d say!
Maybe it is pretty obvious but I think the weapons he uses throughout the game kind of hint his colours He starts with axes , powerful but innacurate ,him at the start of the game blindly running off to eliwood's side I search of adventure and battle But then he is entangled in real problems he is not equipped to deal with, forced to grow Upon promotion he gains access to swords This can be quite strange as first as swords don't seem like Hector's style at all But they are there to represent his weaknesses and how he overcomes them They are weapons of greater accuracy but lesser power Him finally realising he can't go through life smashing things,he needs to actually consider everything around him This is something that was on the back of his mind from the beginning, judging from his conversation with eliwood about him helping Uther He is merely coming to terms with that although rather brashly as he doesn't stab with them in-game The armored status he gains when promoting is merely a title one He was already stronger than the ostian knights but now he has to also accept the true responsibility of the armor Later in fe6 he becomes a full fledged general of Ostia ready to be Lycia's proper shield He changes swords for lances although my headcannon wants to say that he is more akin to fe8 generals with full weapon triangle , surpassing his own military to become the symbol Ostia needs
I don’t think I’ve ever truly appreciated the depth of Hector’s character before. Sure, I’ve played the games and gotten most of his heroes forms, loved the world and franchise he’s from, but I’ve never sat down and really thought about what he had to do and who he became because of it. Thank you for opening my eyes, because Hector is an astounding character and I’m really glad I Now know why. Keep up the great work!
Ghast? You really know how to make me appreciate this series more and more. Since my discovery of it, its really changed my life and helped me understand what it meant to be your own person. I was not used to having friends to talk to and could not keep my attention in one place, but starting with the Blazing Sword, it brought me to a world like no other. Being in this fandom and seeing it change over the years has both enlightened me and disappointed me. I find myself excited with any new content, but like all fandoms, all that glitters is not gold. Still, what I've appreciated the most about the series is its characters. Whether they become too much of a trope that the series likes to reuse or are someone unique and interesting, it's the characters that have taught me about how to interact with people, how to act kinder and be more empathetic. That's why I appreciate your support sciences so much, it's really something I wish I could do as eloquently or organized as you do, but I find my joy in exclaiming to my friends about new favorite characters and why this or that is important. Listening to Hectors story in detail has reminded me how far I've come myself, and through all the trouble I've caused to hell, even now, I've changed and will continue to change. Its scary, maturing and growing up, gaining new friends and maybe losing some old ones in the process. Change has been something so scary for me, but it's because if stories like this that give me the strength to go on. This one goes out to my friends over the years, I know some of yall will watch this video and know my profile. Thank you for always being there for me, and I only hope I serve the same purpose even better. And thank you, Ghast. You're truly one of reasons I love this channel and series so much. Thank you for all that you do, and I cant wait to see more.
I never thought I could need a Fire Emblem video in my life. And I’m not even memeing. I can relate to this, especially in the fact that I’m very prideful but not in a positive way. What happens mostly is that I try to do stuff alone, but that pride shatters when I utterly fail at almost everything and that’s when I hate being around others because they’ll think I’m useless, helpless or weak, and I don’t know how to deal with those feeling without being overwhelmed or paralyzed by them. Maybe I could learn a thing or two from Hector and from this video. Thank you, Ghast.
Dude, that's probably your best video yet: The voice acting, the editing, the script... You've really outdone yourself here, dude. Best birthday present I could ever ask for :D
I can only hope that _FIre Emblem: Three Houses_ lives up as a spiritual successor to _Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword_ , with characters as fleshed out as in the latter mentioned game. TL;DR: _I'm just really hype for Ghast's video on_ -edgelord- _edelgard in the future_ -> -i mean, I know its not described as a spiritual successor to FE:7 but the way its portrayed, it seems like it is going to be. three lords = three houses ? i mean i could be jumping the gun, b/c genealogy had 3 in sigurd, quan, and eldigan, but idk. 2 lords for FE8 was successor to gaiden-
Fundamentally speaking, both games do come from a similar aesthetic and foundation in terms of world structure from what's been established in FE6-7 and what we've seen and know so far from FE:3H, so you're not wrong for making that assumption.
In my opinion SS has more fleshed out characters then BS. Besides Marcus (who had 2 games to develop.) Ninian, Eliwood and Hector, SS cast outshines them all in terms of character development. Ephiram, Erika and Lyon. Seth struggling to get behind him falling for his Queen, Ross and Garcia having generally sweet family moments. Man, just wished SS didn't have the 5 support limit.
I hope so too but besides Echoes, Fire Emblem is a dating sim self-insert game now. Good gameplay but the fact that the main character constantly calls you “Teacher” makes it clear it’s probably gonna be fan service-y
Hector is one the coolest and most dynamic characters in the entire series and he’s an axe use which Lords never dive into. The main reason the new lord is an axe user is that they can make Waifu Hector.
Still wondering if she will have a similar way of fighting to Hector's combat style or something different, like if she's better with speed than he is.
@@thebigx68 from what we've seen so far that does seem to be the case, but I'm wondering more if her style will revolve around powerful physical prowess like Hector or, my guess, she'll rely more on another attribute into her method of attack. We did see a Magic and Combat Arts option along with Skills returning so a bit of guessing never hurts y'know.
@@Tim7318-3 I think she's gonna be a fast axe user ya know. The spear dude would probably be the strong one. Well we have to wait and see. If this game turns out to be good I might buy a switch..... I just hope my fears don't become reality.
I LOVE HECTOR *jaw drops to floor, eyes pop out of sockets accompanied by trumpets, heart beats out of chest, awooga awooga sound effect, pulls chain on train whistle that has appeared next to head as steam blows out, slams fists on table, rattling any plates, bowls or silverware, whistles loudly, fireworks shoot from top of head, pants loudly as tongue hangs out of mouth, wipes comically large bead of sweat from forehead, clears throat, straightens tie, combs hair* hes so cool
VOICE ACTING?! Bitch, I'm so shook. Hopefully this keeps being a thing cuz it all was so amazing. Eliwood's VA actually sounded a lot like Yuri Lowenthal. How do you always manage to one-up yourself, Ghast?
Yeah, I know. That's why I brought him up. He was so perfect. I was thinking for a second that he actually recruited yuri Lowenthal until I looked in the description. That impression was so clean.
The dubbed dialogues, such a nice touch- such as your personal insight and the way you applied Hector's struggles to your own experience, making a fictional character extremely relatable. This and Eliwood's Support Science are by far the best videos you've ever made in my opinion, and I'm sure other great vids are yet to come. Thanks for all the hard work, Ghast :)
This was brilliant. Best one yet. I start online classes literally tomorrow and I know mine and Hector's responsibilities are nowhere near comparable, but accepting responsibility of it is what scares me so much.
Hector is near the top of my list for characters that have changed me (also my favorite characters). I made an instant connection with him when I first played the game when I was little. At first it was: cool nice guy who can beat just about anything. A shallow view but I was young and cared more about winning than the story. But as I grew up I thought about him more. I thought of how scared he was, about how scared I am to let myself or my family down. His inability to understand himself and the contradiction between how he feels and what he does resonates with me. I think there's also a weight on Hector's shoulders to be able to rule like Uther. To be as successful as his brother and to be someone he isn't. That exact struggle is something I've faced with having an amazing older bro. You get compared, you get put down because you're not like them. But your love for them stays no matter how tough life gets. That older brother of mine moved away a few days ago, but just like Hector I would rush to his side in a heartbeat if he needed me. Hector is a character I've grown up with, and he's grown up with me.
Honestly; I had a level of respect for Hector as a unique character within Fire Emblem; and not just as the only Axe-wielding lord. As you said; his storyline is unlike any other Lord's - even Ephraim; his closest counterpart as far as breaking the mold is concerned; doesn't match up. I never thought deeply about his position, though. Honestly, I thought that he was over-hyped, so I never gave him too much thought. Plus, every time I played through FE7 when I was younger, I focused more on the surface-level Eliwood story, not Hector's. Hector is aware the entire time that he needs to be strong for others, though to an unhealthy standard. He is completely unable to allow himself to feel pain, to feel distress. Those are things that he seems to fervently hate. Instead, he wants to stop others from feeling those things; and take on the burden himself. Because he believes that people don't want to make their pain obvious; and when they hurt, he hurts. He can't bear to watch Lyn cry. He is completely willing to sacrifice his own livelihood and any chance he has at a long; satisfying life for the strength he needs to ensure that Eliwood succeeds. To me; these ideas hit me too deeply. While I can't say that I hold the strength to never cry; I have that same almost self-sacrificing desire to be strong for my family and friends no matter what. If they hurt; I would do everything in my power to try to take that pain away, no matter what that costs me. I've often wondered in positions of extreme anxiety - that I rarely let myself show or feel - what my life path is, whether in my dying days I will feel satisfied. And now I see that a character who I never gave the credit he deserved went through all of these questions. I guess, Ghast; I have to say thank you for highlighting this. Also a sarcastic "thank you"; because now I've got sketches and ideas for a Hector cosplay started and I don't need more Fire Emblem cosplays to do right now.
Wow great vid! I really liked the voiced segments and the editing was on point the whole way! Hector was always cool to me but was the overpowered sidekick character who's better than the lead that people prefer (there's a reason why if there has to be another FE character in Smash Bros people want it to be him) but I definitely like his character way more now. Seeing this video makes me really want Uther in Heroes now, he's so underrated as a side character.
Hector is my favorite character of all time. I resonate so much like him. Think I have to be strong, have trouble expressing emotions, don’t cry in front of anyone, all my compassion goes to who I care about and no sympathy for anyone who is a threat, the younger brother who is looked down as a fool. At the same time, I am a level 1 version of that and so wish I could be at his level.
I demand a voice-acting patch for FE7 now! This was way too good! The voice-acting was really amazing; it reminded me of Echoes, and that's something! Great analysis as always. Hector? More like Rektor.
Aw, man. The voice actors did a fantastic job with this one. Hector was always my favorite for how he supported Eliwood even when he was facing his own issues, but you’ve gone way more in depth with his character and flaws. Kudos.
Wow. Seriously the best support science vid to date. I thought I knew fe7 but the Linus part surprised me. Love the inclusion of voice acting and the editing is spot on, hope it’s here to stay
As a Hector fan, I feel like one of the big things you overlook, is not just his reliance in physical strength but reckless raw power. He's basically the protect and smash archetype, but in the actual best story in the game, of many great stories. He's a self proclaimed self trained, or untrained fighter. But you did nail just about everything else. The emotional weakness he masks is a lot masked by the reckless aggression
*OHO* That was utterly fantastic Ghast, the editing was on point and so was the voice acting. Your support sciences have always been very high quality, in addition to being thought-provoking and exploring characters in ways I couldn't ever do myself. Thank you for the consistently amazing content :) :)
Im happy somone finally sees hector the way i do. I always hear people say that hector is their least favorite lord in fe7 but they just dont understand his character. Hopefully through your video people will like him for his personality rather than the fact that he is the strongest lord in fe7
Wow, what an amazing video. This video goes so deep in Hector's character and discusses his growth as a human so well. It's well-researched, well-written and well-delivered. All the points you make in this video can somehow relate back to us, which helps us reflect on our actions too. Just wow, what a great video.
This had a deep impact on me, because up until now I had a hard time finding words to describe what Hector helped me see in myself and in him. Besides finding him attractive and a fun unit, I felt a connection in his story, in a deep sense of longing for who I was am and will be. Thank you for this. It's always nice to gain insight on things and people like this.
This one got me in the feels. It made me appreciate my favorite lord more than ever by showing things I didn't even know about the game playing through it multiple times. This series makes me so grateful, since it helps appreciate how characters are made so much more. So a heartfelt thanks to one of my favorite Canadian youtubers!
This was easily one of your best ones yet, Ghast. You've really done an amazing job this time, having voice actors act out the scenes, the upping of production quality, the very deep writing you've put in, its spectacular! Bravo!
The quality of Support Science videos just keeps getting higher and higher, I can't express enough how much I enjoy them and how much I appreciate your work, man. Thank you for doing all this.
This is the first story I’ve heard on your page and I’m at a loss for words on the production! You’re awesome and so is your work, you’ve earned yourself a new follower !
Fire emblem 7 Blazing Sword is an underrated game. What I loved so much about it is how it doesn't leave things tied in a bow and there isn't necessarily happy ending while still managing to stand on its own.
Hector reminds me of myself sometimes. When I was a kid everyone saw me as someone weak and pathetic, someone who can't even protect himself. As time passed and I grew up I started behaving different, I always tried to look tough and without equal, so that people could depend on me. But the truth is... I was running away from who I really am. I have always been a person who shows his emotions but I was hiding them so I couldn't look weak. I thought that if someone saw me crying or showing any weakness at all they would thought I was just a pathetic kid. Now, I don't care what someone thinks of me. I may be an emotional person, but that doesn't make me weak. If the situation demands it, I will be there to help those who are dear to me.
I had to hold back tears in some parts of the video, something that also happened to me while playing Bloodlines . You have outdone yourself yet again, Ghast.
And this is why you've become my favorite channel so quickly. These videos go DEEP into the characters backstories and make them not only interesting but relateable. I have no business being able to relate to someone like Hector on the surface but you've done such an amazing job that I find myself asking the same questions. It's just like in the Gerik video. You ask questions and make viewers actually THINK about themselves. Thank you for that.
This was do good! Breaking it down like this helps explain the connection I felt to Hector. He may be the younger brother, and I the older, but the emotional struggles are the same... To a staggering degree. I too have had trouble dealing with grief, and I want nothing more than to be the pillar of strength for my friends. Great job!! Keep up the good work!!
I had just been binging on support sciences, and seeing how each one is a quantum leap ahead of the last again and again is so impressive. Now we're here, with yet another quantum leap. I'm so excited to watch you keep growing and keep getting better!
Fantastic. I've liked Hector ever since I studied his character myself after the Eliwood Support Science and this video not only captures what I like about him, but also recontexualises him for me and adds in a bunch of new elements that I love. I've never given him much credit for it, but Hector's character and journey really is very "real", and you illustrated that really well. After this, I think I may well love him as much as I do Eliwood and Lyn. I've really gotta say thanks for this series tbh. They've offered so many interesting takes on these characters that I would've never considered myself
Incredible work, dude. The more I watch these, the more I begin to appreciate the characters of the older FE games even more. Really makes me want to catch up on the older games sometime!
Amazing work. It's been difficult for me to describe exactly why I like Hector so much as a character, but you really found the right words to describe why he's so great.
This was amazing man! I just started playing these again on my phone. I've beaten this game so many times and there's still things I have left to unlock. Love this series
Congratulations Ghast your video was amazing, not only in content quality, as all of your support sciences, but in production too. It made me think not only about FE but about myself too, and for that I have to say - Thank you. Keep up the great work dude.
Hello, i just recently started playing the FE series (i was bedridden some months ago and watched almost all Mangs videos... what a voyage) and from his Hector playtrough i learned about this character and went to play FE7. Since i was 13(I am 37 right now) my favorite character of all time was Sabin Rene Figaro from Final Fantasy 6, exactly because he is Hector master monk version. He is a man put in check with his responsabilities and always seems to be there for the people needing him. Since FF6 dont use the character system FE uses, specially for Lords, Sabin never had the opportunity do develop as a character as Hector had, and even with just some moments of spotlight during the game he was able to catch my pre-teenager admiration of how i imagined a strong man should be. The, 24 years later i found Hector. He is LITERARY Sabin put on a different situation, with diferent friends, and a whrole game for himself to develop character. Hector in many ways is a refreshing character: With all his brashness and self confidence, i loved that the game didnt try to take this from him... he is not a dumb brute, but in fact a very intelligent one. Many times the games empathizes how he is capable of detecting even stealth specialists around him, like Mathew and many people that try to sneak on him during the game. He always know WHO TO BASH. He may question his decisions, but if you come to think, for the entire game, he NEVER BASH A INNOCENT! He fury and agressiveness is always focused on those deserving. The game gives a lot of opportunities for him to learn and grow, but never removes from him this most utter sincerity and honesty. If he dont like you, he make it clear, if he like, he makes it clear that if he is alive, you will also be. In a videogame era dominated by emo-driven protagonists, protagonists that try hard to be the most anti-heroic as possible , even to the point that sometimes i abandon games cause the protagonist is an asshole so big that i really want him to lose, to see a character so admirable, so MACHO (but not a machist) is a refreshing thing. Curiously i only came to know his fate in FE6 after i watched FE7, so i felt a little bit sad about him. I am sure that if the order of the games were reversed they should make his death a lot more heroic (probably with Lilina present) cause i am sure he would have a word or two for her. Man, i love this character so much that i cant chose who was his wife and think that he should had them all... together at the same time :P And that is not a wish i make for another man lightly :P
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! Hector is my favorite character, but I've never been able to put into words why I love him so much. Because of this video I now have a place to point people when trying to explain why I think he's so great. HECTOR IS BEST LORD!
I will just let you know that this video resonated with me so much that I actually needed a moment for myself after watching. Hector is such a great character and you are such a great creator. Kudos!
Hector has always been my favorite Lord. His development was just so organic and human that it was impossible for me in to like him any less than I already do.
this might be my favourite support since idk why, Hector is not my favourite character but the way you structured it and the passion you have just makes the video so great
These support sciences you do are just amazing. I love all of them even of they involve characters that I didn't even know of prior to the video. They paint these characters in such a different light that a normal person would never realize. These games are so great and I love all of them and their characters and universes. So thank you so much for making me love the series all the more.
Back when I was younger and first playing these games I never really dug deep into these characters. A lot of them I just thought of as average, and didn't really put a lot of stock in their stories. As I've grown though, I've been able to look back and properly analyze these characters, and have gained a much greater appreciation for them. I've learned to appreciate Hector's story in particular much more as time went on, but there were so many details that I wasn't aware of or didn't consider that this video brought up. I had no idea he had special dialogue if he kills Linus. This video is some of your best work man. I was so excited for this to release and it was worth the wait.
idk if I ever did feel more satisfied finishing a video. I'm so happy its finally here. And I'm very much looking forward to what you lads and ladies think.

That was definitely one of your best Support Sciences. Thank you for doing it, even though it took a lot of time and effort. Well done man!
Damn... I think I have respect for Hector now. I can't believe I didn't let myself see more of Hector as a character. Instead, I just kept looking at him as a this tall and tough wall of bricks. Thank you for this new perspective.
Four words. I fking love it!! Like man this was such a nice video
Rowan Support Science When?
-but seriously, i love these support science videos. its like english class, except more intriguing because you teach and analyze topics that normally would not be seen as academic or intellectually motivated. but in reality these games are so much more than what people see them as from a distance-
Amazing video once again
FE7 is a game where the generic *Village Maiden,* Rebecca, has a personal mystery and quest to fight in the army. She matures enough to be entrusted by royalty as caretaker at the end of her journey. The game is character driven alright.
Did support science just reach... S rank?
animations, voice acting, well thought out analysis, viewer inclusion, so many things, even compared to the last support science, the quality keeps getting better. I feel bad that I watched this without actually paying for it.
~~I want to S Rank Support Science~~
Damn mate, this is impressive. If they ever do ab FE7 remake, I'd hope they add voice acting just because of this.
@@lmelville280 Definitely. Along with 3d cutscenes. And possibly cutscenes for supports.
They got promoted.
As far as I can tell, in the fandom Hector is more popular for how useful he is in the game than for his character.
Hawelo92 Or that he's the axe lord, like how Ephraim is the lance lord.
Oh, he is. But Ghast is showing that there's more to Hector's awesomeness than just what people gush about.
He's definitely the best out of the three lords in FE7, but that's not saying much. He's honestly a bit overrated by the fanbase IMO.
he is and he isnt. the guy has amazing attack and defense. if he could promote before CoD id love him more.
Michael Shan well he is the most useful lord of the first westernized FE game a lot of people like him because he was their introduction to the Series kind of like why lyn is super popular as well

The voice acting in this episode is actually amazing! I'm suprised how top-notch every part of this series is.
It could seriously fit straight in to a professional game like Echoes and nobody would distinguish the quality.
Hector is the true image of masculinity. NOT TOXIC MASCULINITY. Just true masculinity.
It's 2018. All masculinity is toxic masculinity.

It doesn't matter who's next, it'll be a treat just to learn more about them.
thanks!

Check out the voice actor's channel- they're a little group, I think.
I agree. I would love to see Ephraim with new depth.
I just... 😂

GoblinSmog so much cringe in this comment, Jesus
BMB Lyndis is my second favorite lord. You're right. There is much to speak about Lyn 😊
I love reading this comment did you share thoughts like that regarding FE in another place?
THANK YOU for this. Hector is a great character, but people seem to essentially love an action-hero caricature of him.
(Astral M) That’s because not everyone cares to go out of their way to analyze things
Where's the Lamb Sauce there’s a difference between that and not looking past his main story dialogue at all
Shoutout to the woman doing voice direction. She did such an amazing job I’d be disappointed to learn she was anything less than a professional.
Maybe it is pretty obvious but I think the weapons he uses throughout the game kind of hint his colours
He starts with axes , powerful but innacurate ,him at the start of the game blindly running off to eliwood's side I search of adventure and battle
But then he is entangled in real problems he is not equipped to deal with, forced to grow
Upon promotion he gains access to swords
This can be quite strange as first as swords don't seem like Hector's style at all
But they are there to represent his weaknesses and how he overcomes them
They are weapons of greater accuracy but lesser power
Him finally realising he can't go through life smashing things,he needs to actually consider everything around him
This is something that was on the back of his mind from the beginning, judging from his conversation with eliwood about him helping Uther
He is merely coming to terms with that although rather brashly as he doesn't stab with them in-game
The armored status he gains when promoting is merely a title one
He was already stronger than the ostian knights but now he has to also accept the true responsibility of the armor
Later in fe6 he becomes a full fledged general of Ostia ready to be Lycia's proper shield
He changes swords for lances although my headcannon wants to say that he is more akin to fe8 generals with full weapon triangle , surpassing his own military to become the symbol Ostia needs
Again I don't know what's with me and kilometric comments in these videos
Thank you for all that you do, and I cant wait to see more.
thanks for sharing!

Man, the voice acting was amazing! I fell in love with Hector and Lyn voice. And the analysis of his story it's great.
TL;DR: _I'm just really hype for Ghast's video on_ -edgelord- _edelgard in the future_
->
-i mean, I know its not described as a spiritual successor to FE:7 but the way its portrayed, it seems like it is going to be. three lords = three houses ? i mean i could be jumping the gun, b/c genealogy had 3 in sigurd, quan, and eldigan, but idk. 2 lords for FE8 was successor to gaiden-
Fundamentally speaking, both games do come from a similar aesthetic and foundation in terms of world structure from what's been established in FE6-7 and what we've seen and know so far from FE:3H, so you're not wrong for making that assumption.
Roy is Our Boy? Mad math respecc
Well, it lived up most of our expectations
Hector is a famous lord that no one understands. Oswin and Uther and Serra always giving him commands!

Nothing short of brilliant. Love this and all of your support sciences Ghast.
@@Tim7318-3 Her combat style is kinda like an elegant one.
@@thebigx68 from what we've seen so far that does seem to be the case, but I'm wondering more if her style will revolve around powerful physical prowess like Hector or, my guess, she'll rely more on another attribute into her method of attack.

That's cause he is Eliwood's VA in English, I'd say he nailed it but that's just me.
Yeah, I know. That's why I brought him up. He was so perfect. I was thinking for a second that he actually recruited yuri Lowenthal until I looked in the description. That impression was so clean.
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much!
RegaLuna Ueah, that was spot - on! Great job with that!
You know, you should get other voice actors for characters from other games. Do not let this be a one time thing, Ghast! Even if it takes you longer!
The voice actors did an amazing job! It really helps with the impact of the Support Science.
No wonder why I felt this closely to a fictional character, because in a sense we all share common traits with Hector.
Kudos.
Finally, my boy Hector getting recognition for being not just an amazing unit but a fantastic character too!
Wow. Seriously the best support science vid to date. I thought I knew fe7 but the Linus part surprised me. Love the inclusion of voice acting and the editing is spot on, hope it’s here to stay
This brought tears to my eyes and made Hector one of my favourite characters alongside Ephraim. Wow... simply amazing.
This was absolutely fantastic. Special props to the VAs too, they were great.
7:32 Just realized Brave Hectors armor is his brother's armor... even with his cape-thingy :o
Sad OHO
As a Hector fan, I feel like one of the big things you overlook, is not just his reliance in physical strength but reckless raw power. He's basically the protect and smash archetype, but in the actual best story in the game, of many great stories. He's a self proclaimed self trained, or untrained fighter. But you did nail just about everything else. The emotional weakness he masks is a lot masked by the reckless aggression
*OHO*
That was utterly fantastic Ghast, the editing was on point and so was the voice acting.
Fantastic video Ghast! The little voice acting clips shoot the production values sky high!
Wow, what an amazing video. This video goes so deep in Hector's character and discusses his growth as a human so well. It's well-researched, well-written and well-delivered. All the points you make in this video can somehow relate back to us, which helps us reflect on our actions too. Just wow, what a great video.
I honestly was not ready to see Hector in FE6. I loved him so much in FE7, his appearance in FE6 crushed me.
I've been moved to tears, the hell XD The production values are awesome and the VA work especially help deliver the tale
OHO ghast great vid I definitely agree with you now all we need is lyn and we can complete the trio
This please.
Yes please
I wasn't expecting deep existentialism in my support science video. Good video! Loved the editing and voiceovers.
Been watching you since way back, but this is my first time commenting. This was fucking great Ghast, be proud of yourself.
Props to you Ghast, and everyone else who worked on this. Y'all did an amazing job.
Hector made me cry during the Linus cutscene
Kinda regret not letting him getting the final blow... But he's already capped, so a waste of EXP there... So Pent and Sain did him in.
If the situation demands it, I will be there to help those who are dear to me.
please the story of hector is him out in an adventure to get some mad poosi
Wait... I know you
He seems familiar......
Eliwood only has three possible playable wives. Hector has four.
Hector only had sex with his canon waifu Farina.
Fede Poyo and Hector bottoms
I have to say, this is your most polished support science video yet. I can't wait to see more of this, love the improvements!
I had to hold back tears in some parts of the video, something that also happened to me while playing Bloodlines . You have outdone yourself yet again, Ghast.
This brought tears to my eyes. Wonderful work.
The voice acting was...just fantastic frankly. I'd love to see more of it in future works.
That voice acting i was really suprised wow great job
This was do good! Breaking it down like this helps explain the connection I felt to Hector. He may be the younger brother, and I the older, but the emotional struggles are the same... To a staggering degree. I too have had trouble dealing with grief, and I want nothing more than to be the pillar of strength for my friends.
Great job!! Keep up the good work!!
The jaffar scene with voice acting tho
Truly epic
I really loved hector before but now i can honestly say he's one of my favorites
You've seriously outdone yourself with his Support Science omg!! I loved the editing, , and just.. everything, it's so good!!
I had just been binging on support sciences, and seeing how each one is a quantum leap ahead of the last again and again is so impressive. Now we're here, with yet another quantum leap. I'm so excited to watch you keep growing and keep getting better!

That’s a very memeable line
Yoooooo! Thanks for being so consistently awesome Ghast!
Love the voice acting in this video! Really matches my mental image of the characters.
Man, i love this character so much that i cant chose who was his wife and think that he should had them all... together at the same time :P
And that is not a wish i make for another man lightly :P
Thanks for increasing my appreciation of Hector to levels I never thought they could be. Amazing work, as usual, Ghast.
Kudos!
The character building in this game was just so good.
I can't lie I've been undercutting Hector's character. I don't like disrespect him or anything but wow he's way deeper than I thought.
Gotta say, the second half of the video was where it began to shine.
Hector has always been my favorite Lord. His development was just so organic and human that it was impossible for me in to like him any less than I already do.
this might be my favourite support since idk why, Hector is not my favourite character but the way you structured it and the passion you have just makes the video so great
Holy cow. Not only is it an amazing analysis the editing is on point. You really outdid yourself
These support sciences you do are just amazing. I love all of them even of they involve characters that I didn't even know of prior to the video. They paint these characters in such a different light that a normal person would never realize. These games are so great and I love all of them and their characters and universes. So thank you so much for making me love the series all the more.
Incredible video dude! Your editing and script-writing have come so far since the start of the series; now I can't wait for the next episode!
