This repair was successful and I was able to test the card for about 2 hours and everything was functioning normally. Once Der8auer got the card and tried to test it unfortunately there was no picture. There could be multiple problems and not all of them showed symptoms while the card was with me. As this video shows there is serious oxidation on many of the pads and most likely the other 11 ram chips may have the same problem. The card will be returned to me and we will do a follow up video of this repair where we will find out exactly where the problems are, but definitely all the ram chips need to be reballed.
That sucks the manufacture should fix the card, its their failure in manufacturing.
@@GodKitty677 they would have done this. der8auer explains it in his video why he went this route.
Yeah I wondered about this, if the one RAM chip was so bad who knows what you may find under the others.
But it was prudent to stop after the known failing chip was fixed because no point in pulling the other ram chips if they’re fine.
@@floodo1 Removing chips that work just to reball, risks killing the card for no good reason. Some places its 50/50 chance to work after reballing all the memory chips.
Could be that the card was damaged in transit.

This was one of the coolest videos I've seen on GPU or even computer components. I've never seen the backside of a gpu or RAM module and this was really cool to see. Great expertise and work. I would love to watch more.
what this man said. incredible to watch!
I know. I just got addicted with his videos. I'm a computer engineering graduate so naturally these type of stuff interests me. Unfortunately doing these types of repairs is next to impossible from where I am cause the resources needed are hard to come by
KrisFix is some kind of magician :-)
Check NorthwestRepair
Though for me this is far too deep to really understand, I must say the way you present things with the lighting conditions, camera angles etc. is excellent. I am fascinated.
Don't let it scare you off. There are some simple measurements that you can do to isolate issues on GPUs. The hard part is finding the right points on teh board to take those measurements. I fixed a card last year by following some of these videos.
This is a master at work. As someone who started soldering a couple of years back to save electronics from going to landfills. Seeing this level of complexity has left me completely in awe of your skills and tools!
I've built many PC's over the decades, and to me watching your video it's literally magic. No one I know has this skill of repairing components. Perhaps this should be taught in schools?
It should be funded bu governments to avoid repairable items to end up in landfills
Im just fascinated how you know where to measure and what to expect its so complicated, so many components and the way you dissasemble and clean and take in place again just make it look like walk in the park. Im amazed.
With the measurements I can understand what is happening to some degree. I'm lost each time Kris goes into schematics. It's complicated and I loose track of what he's talking about quickly.
Sehr beeindruckend was überhaupt alles so möglich ist.
Between watching you and Northwestrepair (another channel here on RUclips that does repair work like this the proper way) I find myself really wanting to learn to do this kind of microelectronics repair work. You're an inspiration. Thank you.
I also came here through der8auer. Interesting channel. You get a good insight into the structure of such graphics cards. Sophisticated soldering technology and tools, maybe you can show them in more detail at some point. Looks all pretty professional. 👍
came here because of this GPU/DER8auer and would like a "look" at the reballing / reflow / computerized chip solder / removal (not at a copy level but how it is done / like your GPU repair levels)
No way, we did it boys 😮. I can’t believe Der8auer saw our comments.
I think a few of us said same thing.............. 🙂
ofc :) I always read your comments
@@der8auerNot many big tech RUclipsrs do. It’s really awesome that you have your card working now, and KrisFix hopefully will get some more exposure to his repair service as well :)

Amazing work Kris. Extremely professional and clean (very German). You make it look easy!
Man it is really really REALLY cool to watch someone with so much knowledge and skill and Kris you're very humble, impressive stuff! I am absolutely astonished by this view into the way a Video Card is repaired and even just assembled in the first place. Wow! I hope this collab brings you heaps of subscribers. I will be one.
Thank you
think we can start from changing wallpaper here
I think the corrosion under the memory chip was primarly caused by condensation that formed while he was overclocking the card and cooling it with liquid nitrogen. His reflow attempt combined with the already corroded balls then caused the solderjoint to break.
Danke
This was a simply amazing repair process. I have never before seen such a process. And let alone on a $2000 video card.
Thank you for this.
Awesome job Kris! I've been a follower of Louis Rossmann (Rossmann Repair Group) here on RUclips for a few years. He (and his crew) do component level board on MacBooks. In the last year or so he has shifted his energy into Right to Repair (along with his personal tribulations ...lol) here in the U.S., but his many videos prior to about 2021 are most informative. He is a little acerbic ... a true New Yorker ... but does pass on much helpful learning to the public.
Thanks for your really great and pro level content here!

craftsmanship. Good you guys worked together to show this. It gives hope for people with expensive GPU's to maintain them longer. Really nice !
That was amazing to watch. I didn't even know people outside of major labs could do this kind of work / testing!
Glad Roman introduced me to your channel, I look forward to the next video, and will be watching old ones while I wait. Hope this project brings you more new subs like myself.
Great work!
I see it that way too, at least the views are going up. The der8auer video brings in 3 hours as much his others get in weeks. Good push.
to be fair to der8auer, he probably did the nicest "heatgun reflow" i've ever seen, using a bottom preheater and a thermocouple to monitor temps, I'm not too surprised he didn't burn it. Looking forward to the next video
Nice! Never seen such a great BGA rework with such with such attention to detail. Sub, Love it!
Sachverstand, sehr viel Erfahrung und passendes Equipment machen es möglich...Hut ab, guten Job gemacht!👍
Master in action, thx for the presentation and for seeing someone with such a controlled & steady hand. This is under microskope, great respect.
Impressive work, very satisfying to watch.
I loved how the comment section on his video was mostly: "Check KrisFix, he is the master in gpu repairs " :D
Dein Kanal ist völlig underrated! Tolle Arbeit und Video Dokumentation.
Danke
Came here from Der8uer. Solid work! Thx for the video.
subbed :)
The cleaning process was so satisfying to watch. I can watch that all day
I recommended your channel to der8auer in the comments. Really glad you got to fix it for a while.
Wow, amazing work, this is close to magic! I'm actually happy now that Der8auer killed his card and we all had a chance to see this. Your channel definitely deserves way more attention and I hope this video will boost the number of your followers!
Never seen it before. Hardwarehero.
Danke
Awesome! I repair amplifiers, produced till 1990 and it's always crazy to see how small the electronics have become :D
Wow, this was amazing! I've never watched a repair video of someone using a stencil and a machine like that to resolder a processor, very cool, have a sub!
wow.... never seen this done before, a true craftsman at work
The corrosion is from condensed water from liquid nitrogen cooling, and the extreme temperature swings that occurred during the highscore attempts.
der8auer may have had poor insulation or just bad luck.
If the corrosion on all the RAM chips are towards the GPU chip, it is for sure due condensation and the temperatures.
Of course, ASUS may just have had a bad production run, I don't remember if Roman said if this was a review sample or an actual retail product.
It was a pree UP Sample
The corrosion I think he's talking about caused poor solder connections to begin with and likely wasn't a result of use. "Corrosion" in this case being surface oxidization during the solder process that flux should have cleaned off but didn't and then prevented the solder from joining the pads together properly.
Condensed water can be the real problem, but we will find out
Been watching virtually every GPU repair channel I can find yet this channel was never once recommended to me by RUclips. RUclips is so useless sometimes. Luckily I found it through DerBauers video. GPU repairs are amazing.
Kris is In a league of his own !
Well done mate ! 👏
As always a really good fix Kris. I'm so happy that Roman actually sendt the card to you. I was was one of the people that said he could send it to you. I love your work as always. Nice job. Love from Norway
Very cool, thanks for this excellent video. Your process and production quality / editing is top notch. Nice work!
I am impressed by your skill and professionalism! It is awesome to see you working on that thing! Thanks for sharing 😮
Its new for me that you can remove the actual gpu. Solder Balls. Blown away! Awesome work, keep it up! I hope that this push from der8auer will boost your subscribers. Worked for me, I just subscribed! :)
Really happy i've found your channel. Amazing work , keep it going.
Salve Alucian.
The equipment that took the core off the board was awesome to watch! Great video!
We need a follow up. Have him send it again! Send him screenshots that there is a demand!
I'm fascinated by the Linux software stack you were using for testing and analysis. When I saw you starting that machine up I was expecting you to be digging through dmesg/lspci, MCE logs, and maybe BARs / MMIO spaces / ACPI tables, etc., but what you showed looks far more in-depth and specialised. Is there somewhere where I can learn more about those tools in detail? (both usage and underlying technical details) - my guess is it's utilising NVML API under the hood?
These are internal tools by Nvidia which got leaked. The same tools get used at RMA centers to e.g. find a faulty memory chip on the card. If you want to learn more, just search for "nvidia mods/mats" on RUclips. You'll probably find the channel "learn electronics repair" sooner or later, they do go into detail and their accompanying discord channel got all the resources you need, including download links and other interesting stuff like schematics and GPU board view files. "Tech Cemetery" is also a good resource tho I believe he stopped doing repair works.
@@-eMpTy- Thanks for the info!
Awesome video and great work! I'm looking forward to pt. 2!
Fantastic! Love watching a professional work their craft.
This is awesome! I saw the der8Auer video on this card and I, and probably the rest of the gpu repair guys, desperately wanted to test it and solve the problem. Now you've solved it for us.
Thank you so much!
Wahnsinn! Höchste Hochachtung an dein Können!
Danke
Impressive rework job! I've done BGA84 and BGA96 reballs for DRAM ICs on embedded devices, but seeing you do this on such a huge package really gives me the confidence to take a crack at larger jobs.
Wild was er alles hat. So einen Schlammsauger für Lötstellen.
Und auch das magische magnetische Chip-desolder-Gerät.
Gute Arbeit.
Thank goodness for surface tension. It is amazing and lucky that the solder 'knows' how to stay in place.
Insane work done on this card, I never thought I would see it running again, Bravo, hopefully it can be resituated a second time. But knowing Der8auer I'm sure there will be a 3rd "DOA" Incident sooner than later 😆. I assume when you know the fundamentals you can fix any GPU ...
I never saw how a GPU gets repaired, but this looks realy amazing.
You can be shure i will watch other Videos from You're Channel for shure. 👍❤
Thx at you and der8auer for making this happen.
Thank you
I wish my hands were that steady. Amazing video. Thank you.
This channel is underrated😢. What a beast 👍 keep working 👍
Great video, never saw a GPU repair before like this.
please, need more videos ! I have absolutely no idea what you are doing, but I love it to watch :D
Danke
This was such a high quality repair, congratulations on your excellent work! Definitively will watch the follow-up video.
Awesome love this channel thanks to der8auer that he gave us a link to your epic channel as ima love repairing retro tech or at least trying my best that is perfect work :)
I think highlighting what not to do at the end was necessary, so that people don't make the same simple mistakes. Good job!
Grandiose Arbeit! Abo ist da :)
I just need one word: Amazing! Some of the most professional stuff, i've ever seen! First time i saw a reballing mask in action... Thanks for that! :)
Wow really fascinating to see how you repaired that card. I guess you are a true tech-magician! 👍
Absolute magnificent Video, well done job on the card too - Thank you for the insights!
I’m sorry Kris for the following remark, i couldn’t help myself, but from some angles you remind me of Doctor Evil, i think the blouse does it.
Nice video and I’m really impressed by how professional everything looks ( the tools, the workflow, the results).
Sweater. Gotta stay warm and try consuming as little gas as possible.
Really cool video! Incredible skill. I just wish you would have explained a bit more what exactly you're doing, how does re-soldering the GPU work? You applied some powder, how was the powder working? I've never seen anything like this before, so I couldn't quite follow that process.
Impressive presentation. Thanks!
Interesting that there was corrosion under not only one of the mem chips but a few of the GPU pins, so imho 100% on Asus and not Roman. This is precisely WHY we need right to repair, so we have access to professionals like Kris. @Kris, top job fella!
these corroded pads could be an issue caused by the temperaturestress by ln2 cooling. after cracking the gaps start corroding quite fast.
Fantastic video, and glad to have found your channel through der8auer! If I'm unfortunate enough to need a repair, I know who I'll be contacting 😀
I was waiting for this one...
Awesome skills as always Kris !!!!
After watching so many US-based RUclipsrs, you've no idea how nice it is to hear the word "solder" pronounced correctly :D
WOW very good repair, I'm surprised it's possible to re-solder all those GPU pins. Amazing work!
Thank you
What kind of school major did you take and what kind of experiences you had to go thru to be able to understand this level of repair? This is extremely detailed and very skill required task to do.
Also came here to ask this. Replying here in case you get an answer 😄
@@BeheadedKamikaze Maybe too niche to learn these skills in a school, you would need to train in an assembly house or a repair shop. The main skill needed is dedication and focus on details. Repair and design can be quite different skillsets.
Google thought i should watch this. I do not regret a second. Informative and interesting!
Good work, I do find it quite funny all the negative comments or recommendations of what you should or should not have done. You are a professional and will do what is required to fix if possible the faulty 4090, you tested and proved it worked after you had reballed the GPU and a RAM what else do people expect you to do. If you find no more faults then its fixed, when its returned to you I am sure you will find out what was the additional fault is that appeared after it passed your previous tests. Great video. We look forward to the next video.
sehr tolle arbeit, richtig interresant zuzusehen
An awsome recommmended video by us de-bauer watchers up to 6.42 subs now Kris, only way is up, been campaining for this guy to get more viewers , hope the De-bauer gets this man the recognition he deserves
