The Von Erich family is an American professional wrestling family. Originally from Texas, their actual surname is Adkisson, but every member working in wrestling has used the ring name "Von Erich" after family patriarch Fritz Von Erich (real name Jack Adkisson). Fritz, who wrestled from 1953 to his retirement in 1982, took on the German-sounding name as part of his wrestling gimmick (i.e. in-ring persona), as he originally portrayed a heel.
Fritz and his wife Doris had six children between 1952 and 1969, all sons. Except for their firstborn Jack Jr., who died at age six, all went on to become professional wrestlers. By the time Fritz died of cancer in 1997 at age 68, five of his sons had predeceased him: Jack Jr. drowned in a freak accident in 1959, David died from enteritis in 1984 at age 25, and Mike, Chris, and Kerry all died by their own hands , respectively in 1987 at age 23, 1991 at age 21, and 1993 at age 33. Kevin, Fritz's last surviving son, retired from wrestling in 1995 and remains alive today. The Von Erichs' involvement in wrestling continued into a third generation: Kerry's daughter Lacey wrestled from 2007 until 2010, and Kevin's sons Marshall and Ross have been wrestling since 2012, including as a tag team named "The Von Erichs".
The deaths of Kevin's brothers are the main basis for a widespread myth about a family curse. The term "Von Erich curse" is also used colloquially to refer to the chain of events leading to each brother's death, as well as associated tragedies (such as the death of David's two-month-old daughter of SIDS in 1978). The story of the Von Erich family has been presented as a cautionary tale about parental influence and the various dangers of the professional wrestling business.
They remain one of the best-known families in professional wrestling, both for their accomplishments and their tragic personal history: Fritz and all five of his wrestler sons were collectively inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009, and he, David, Kerry and Kevin were all individually inducted into the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame between 2007 and 2016. The family was the subject of a Dark Side of the Ring episode in 2019 and the 2023 biographical film The Iron Claw, titled after the Von Erichs' signature move.
GRAVES- All of the deceased Von Erichs are interred at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
I couldn’t imagine their mother and father burying their children one by one. Within metres of each other. So sad, may they all rest in peace.
Hey! Thanks for this video. The birth order of the Von Erich kids was: Jack Jr. (1952), Kevin (1957), David (1958), Kerry (1960), Mike (1964), and Chris (1969). As for their deaths, it went: Jack Jr. (1959), David (1984), Mike (1987), Chris (1991), and Kerry (1993). Fritz died in 1997. Doris died in 2015. May they rest in peace. Kevin is the only one still alive.
Mike was the one who didn't want to wrestle but was somewhat forced to due to David's death. Mike was all about being a camera man and helping out that way. Chris, on the other hand, was about wrestling but couldn't wrestle due to his meds & size. As for Kevin (football), David (basketball), and Kerry (discus), they started in other sports but found their way into wrestling.
All of the wives or significant others of David, Kerry, Mike, and of course, Kevin, are still alive. Kevin has been married to Pam since 1980. David's marriages were Candy (1978-1979) and Trisha (1982- his death in 1984). Kerry's marriage was to Catherine (1983-1992). Mike was married to and then divorced Shani in 1985. Chris never married.
Thank you so much for watching
The Von Erich Curse is a sad sad story 😢 I met Kerry Von Erich RIP! way back in 1992 in WWE at a house show and got a picture and his autograph he was very nice and cool then years later in 2010 I met His Daughter Lacey Von Erich in TNA after a show and got her autograph and a Picture and met her again in 2014 at a Wrestling convention and got another picture and another autograph from her she is very sweet and Beautiful! She told me she was only 6 years old at the time when her dad Kerry Died 😢 😢 heartbreaking! 😢
They speak of the one brother ,I think it was Chris who was shorter than his brothers had asthma. We are all born around the same years except we start in ‘57. Our one brother had asthma as well , the Dr. Told him many years into him taking his asthma medicine could stunt his growth. I had to carry my brothers emergency inhaler because once he heard why he was shorter than everyone else of the kids he refused his meds until the asthma attacks got to the point of calling the ambulance. After all he was almost well an inch shorter than our other bro.
It sounds like the father forced his sons to follow in his footsteps , whether they wanted to or not. It seems very sad that a father rules over everyone’s life so much that they check out of life before letting the family down. I also find it sad that one of the brothers is left out of the story pretty weird even though his wrestling story is short he is still part of the story. Horrible a family had to endure so much loss. I feel much caused by the fathers pushing his wishes on his family. Instead of getting a normal job to support his wife & children , he wanted everyone to join the family biz.
I was not a wrestling fan so didn’t know of this family. So interesting and so tragic. How this Mother survived losing her children I have no idea. May they all rest in peace. Thank you Scott ♥️
I appreciate this. My mom and sister were huge fans.
Thank you for this great tribute. I was a diehard WWF fan back in the 80's. Loved World Class as well. Saturday mornings was at 8AM, WWF Superstars and following right after, World Class. Never missed either.
Thanks Scott for sharing these great videos

My best teen years were spent watching World Class Championship Wrestling. I was 15 when I first became a fan and watched as it died off one brother at a time. It was very tragic. Thank you for sharing this video. I plan to visit the cemetery next time I’m down in the Dallas area.
Great video...finally got to watch it. Grew up watching them wrestle on TV as a kid. RIP too all of them. ❤ 🤼♂️

Always so much to learn about things that I haven't been familiar with before when I watch your channel, Scott.
As a huge wrestling fan, I loved watching Kerry as the Texas Tornado. May he and his brothers rest in peace.
I had a huge crush on the Texas Tornado! I havent seen the movie but I will when it becomes available to me. Thanks for a great video, guys!❤
Such an amazing family with sad endings. I always enjoy watching your videos and the stories of those no longer with us ❤
Great video, Scott . May they all rest in peace. 🕊️🤍✨
I watched the Iron Claw movie last feb it was really good Scott.
I enjoy your videos, i have seen a lot. Always respectful.
Thank You Scott ❣ We Love You for Your Excellent Videos
Thanx for covering this family. I never really got into wrestling, but we did watch this family on Saturdays on TV. The good ol'Dallas Sportatorium. Only about half an hour from home. These guys were local heroes, that's for sure. To get an idea of how muscular Kerry was, there's a picture online of him and Schwarzenegger standing side by side. Back then, at least, Kerry looked more impressive to me. After Mike's "departure" I didn't follow them as much. A true shock to hear about Kerry. Really is such a sad story. I've seen modern interviews with Kevin and he seems to be handling things well....Thanx again for the post and thanx for coming back to the Dallas area. Until the next one, take care.
Talented family, sad story.
This is so sad. Can't imagine loosing one child let alone 5 heartbreaking 💔. Not into wrestling myself but very interesting story glad you shared it Scott. All those graves and so young it's like a whole entire family back together. Love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire UK 🇬🇧 💜 🫰
Good respectful video Scott. I can't imagine losing 4 out of 5 children, and all terribly young.
Scott my favorite my absolute favorite RUclipsr!! Much Love and prayers your way !
RIP to the brothers. Thanks Scott.
Awesome job Scott this is such a sad story how many of the Von Erichs have passed & how it happened i went to see the Iron Claw i thought it was well done
Thanks Scott, that was very interesting. Thank you for your hard work as always ❤
Great job Scott! I got to meet Kerry at a wrestling event in Rome,GA many years ago. Marti Lunde aka Arn Anderson is from Rome,GA and had a homecoming hell in a cell event, in 1986 I believe, I was around 12 years old. Great memories and great wrestlers! Safe travels!
Scott as you know wrestling is my life. You always tell their stories with the respect they deserve. Thank you.
Just watched your video, I'm not up up on wrestling in general, but after your vid, I went and watched The Iron Claw. What a great film, I would have never found if it wasn't for your vid, so thank you! I mean that.
(Now insert not so serious)
Thanks Adam the woo, you're awesome!!
I grew up in Jewett, TX where Fritz was born. Loved watching the Von Erich’s wrestle. My 5 grade teacher was Mrs. Atkisson. Her husband was a relative. Love watching your videos.
The French fry story was awesome.
Hello Scott, what a very sad story for this family. That poor Mother what she had to go through ( and the Father)
This is such a tragic family story Scott, the movie iron claw doesn't even cover it all and it was heart wrenching. 10 out of 10 video again buddy.

@@lovebuzz1979thank you ❤
@@SCOTTONTAPEthank you🤍
Thank you for this video. Me and my friends used to go every other weekend to watch them wrestle. I wish I still had all the autographed pictures. Of course I loved Kevin. He was absolutely the most down to earth person I have ever met. Sad to know that he's lost every one of his family members over fame.😢 Watch the documentary on them. And I'm so happy that he has found peace at last
Scott i was watching movie A Real Pain and in film they're visiting cemetary and put rock on grave.made me think of you.
This one was a hard one. To say I was a major Von Erich fan would be an understatement. David was always my favorite but he passed shortly after I got into wrestling. The "Fritz" part of my name is "borrowed" from Fritz Von Erich. I can't talk about where the "Colburn" part came from 😄
A few notes for you. I was told or read that Jack Jr. was electrocuted by his toy train, I don't believe that drowning was involved. I could be wrong on this so I'll have to do some more reading.
What came out in the wrestling world was that David was killed in a motorcycle wreck. He was too big and strong to be taken out by an infection. So that's what they publicized. A wreck that Kerry later had that David never did.
A minor inaccuracy is that they were all NWA. They were actually World Class Championship Wrestling (owned by Fritz) which was under the NWA umbrella. The NWA had their own belts but I don't believe that they had any strict "NWA" events. The NWA was an umbrella alliance of multiple promotions from the territory days. They had the belts so that territories could send or allow their stars to go out and wrestle for the NWA belts but not the territory belts unless the territory would allow that.
Come on 300k! You’re the best Scott! Thank you for the video
Appreciate it, thank you!
I grew up in Dallas... We went to the sportatorium every Friday night.. When David and Mike passed me and my family went too their funerals .... My grandmother is actually buried in the same cemetery as them as well not to far from them... She is buried across the street from their grave site
I hope your grandmother is resting peacefully Kimmie ❤️
I always hit the Like button before I even watch your vids as I already know I’m gonna love them. Eagerly awaiting 300K subs!!!
A fantastic video Scott and what a great tribute to a amazing family of wrestling heroes. Appreciate your efforts & epic contest you post🤝✌️🤘💫

Hi Scott, loving your homemade soundtracks 👍. That was horrifying about what happened to Jack, it’s sad that 3 boys took there own lives. They died so young. That must of been horrific for there parents at the time. Such talented stars of wrestling back in the day. RIP to the father Fritz 💐💐, Jack Jr 💐💐, David 💐💐, Mike, Chris and Kerry 💐💐💐💐💐💐.
RIP Nastoa 💐💐, and David her brother 💐💐. What a strong mother she was.RIP to Doris 💐💐. Best wishes to Kevin ❤️Thank you to your friend for his information on the Von Erich family. This is a really sad video 🥲🥲. Thank you Scott ✌️🤟🏼💖🫶
I couldn't imagine how stressed and upset the parents were when they lost their kids. Their lives were cut way too short.
Awesome video rip i love watching wrestling I got to watch that movie
Hi my lovely tour guide scott ❤ hi brexton 👋 thanks for shaing scott hugs from dublin ❣❣ ( RIP vonair family 🙏🕯🌷
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video as usual, Scott! This video made me go watch the movie..WoW!
Dude i remember watching them back in the day! They were great & i did not know they had a movie about them! i gotta see that & one of the actors played on Shameless (Lip),,,Great video & Hi Brexton!
Wow . Quite the story and very sad. Thanks Scott for showing us😢
Hi Scott!, I don't know a whole lot about wrestling but I do know what grief feels like, not to this magnitude though. This is something else. How a family all passed before their parents, except for the last son, which I can't even imagine how he must have felt I'm living to this day. its sad in its own😢 I cannot imagine what the mother went through mentally to be able to deal with something like that. Me as a mother myself. I don't know what I would do. That's a tough one. Anywho thanks again.🙏🙏
Hola Scott. Yea, This one breaks my 💔. May they all Rest .
Im in a place right now for disabled people. but im getting a place to call my own real soon. and there is alot of nice staff but also bad and if your bad your you should not be a care taker because we depend on care takers to have higher standard and have compassion. and scott you would be perfect to care for anyone because the love you have for people is real. Everyone out there if you or loved one is being cared for by a caretaker always lookout for yourself and your loved ones. because these days some people you just can't trust. but i know also you don't have to live in fear just just be safe.thanks Vickie❤🙏
Great video
Thanks for this video
What a tragic story for this family. I could not even bare the thought of loosing one child let alone 5. God bless and keep them in your loving arms and may they all rest in peace.
Yes, & think about the mom divorcing the dad because she wanted her sons to be able to be free to choose not to wrestle if that’s what they wanted, by the look of it they eventually most went on to steroid or some other substance abuse that causes mood swings that dad seemed to have from the beginning.
Rip Von Erich 😢
Iam a big wrestling fan and saw the movie amazing work scott
Scott you’ve been in my neck of the woods quite a bit lately. Next time you come back we can check out Kenneth’s place.
Prayers and condolences 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great tribute! There was so much tragedy in this family I cant imagine. May they RIP
I remember watching some of them as a kid and the Von Erich Family was so talented and their story is so tragic and heartbreaking, to lose so many of them in a bad way is really sad.
Oh so sad! Similar to my adopted dad’s fam. My dad’s the only son left. Three to bad stuff the other to cancer. All served in military. Their mom passed 2yrs ago. But I felt this .Didn’t realize they were all wrestlers & tragic! Thanks for sharing! Lovely gentlemen.
*SO much love for The Iron Claw...RIP forever to Kerry and the boys!*
Their family history was just tragic! 😭 Kerry is my favorite! ❤️😭 the Von Erich curse #suicideprevention
in 1984 on channel 11 here in Temple Texas at Saturday night from 10 pm to 12 am WCCW would be on , I would watch it all the time , I was in the 9th grade
I never knew about the Von Erich family. So sad , I hope they all rest in peace, I can’t imagine losing children. Thank you for doing this video
Such a tragedy. Loved the movie Iron claw! 💔
Kerry Von Erich.
What a talent. When he did the Iron Claw, it covered all your face and half the back of your head.
His daughter Lacy Von Erich does the iron claw also.
I have lots of family buried here. Born and raised in Dallas. I absolutely loved the Von Erich’s, especially Kerry!,
What a crazy story. You always have such informative videos. I never knew this story. Used to watch wrestling... remember when we all thought it was real? Besides the soaps, wrestling is the longest scripted show still on, i think. Great video!
I saw the movie in the theatre, it made me cry.
Heartbreaking this story is.🙏🙏
It’s a RUclips kind of day. Too cold to walk Bella. Hope Shady is doing good. Awesome video
Iron Claw was my favorite movie of last year! So good, but devastating. I don’t think I ever cried so hard for a movie in my life. I knew nothing going into it. I think Zac deserved so many award nominations. Such a shame.
So sad Scott 😢
That is heartbreaking you had me crying my heart goes out to that family much love always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing this sad story and I don't if you remember the fabulous freebirds of world class championship wrestling and how about the story of "Terry Bam Bam Gordy"but don't know if he is still here on earth or passed away
I graduated high school in 88. I wanted to be a pro wrestler so I went down to Texas to a wrestling school and met the von Erich’s Then a 95 I met buddy Jack Roberts of the Freebirds that lived in Chicago and was going to start a wrestling promotion in Chicago so he told me a lot of stories about the free birds and the Von Erich’s
Hi Scott happy New year
I don't know much about wrestling . Do remember hearing about this very sad story many years ago. Beyond heartbreaking!! Rest in peace to this beautiful family. Xx❤
Thanks scott. Xx❤
My god, this poor family. Now I want to watch that movie. Nice to see Brexton and his bag of rocks ❤️
Hey Scott I was wondering if you could do a vlog on the ecw wrestler new jack would be much appreciated thanks bro
Kerry was my favorite. Thank you, Scott. And Brexton.
My brother lived in Dallas. It was insane how the crowds worshipped them there.
